The Concubine: July 15 - August 15
Hey everyone! Our July 15-August 15 read will be The Concubine by Norah Lofts. We will be starting the discussion on July 16 since we ended voting late.
We'll do the discussion threads broken up by chapters like all the other times, but I figure this thread can be used by those frustrated with amazon's delivery slowness or for any other reason. Just don't discuss the book in any detail here! (General "I'm a couple chapters in and I like it" comments are fine, but we'll start the real discussion threads on the 16th.) For those of you just joining us, you can look through the previous threads in this Monthly Book Discussions section to see how we did it before because the process will be the same (there's also a thread just like this thread for the other books we've read together).
Boy it's quiet here! Who is planning on reading with us this month? This one is much shorter than Sunne in Splendour! I'm actually able to buy it on my Kindle, so I'm really excited.
I know, it has been really silent here lately! I'm definitely reading this month - I actually just got the book out of the library, so I'm good to go! I'm just hoping I still remember it all by August 15. :)
We'll start the discussion on July 16, so you should be okay (and I'll actually start the book before that - yay! - so I can get into the discussion early this time).
I have been reading Sunne in Splendour. It is a good and long book. I appreciate the time people have put into nominating and voting on books. It has helped me find some books I have enjoyed reading but would probably have not found on my own.THANKS!
You're welcome Michele! That's actually really good to hear in a month when we've had so few votes (I know the summer has been keeping people busy, but part of me can't wait for the fall when people will be able to be more active here!). I've got about 100 pages left of Sunne in Splendour - it is excellent (but definitely long!). You should check out the group's bookshelves if you haven't done so already - we've got them arranged by country, and there are a lot of great books that people have added.
Oh right! I forgot we start on July 16. I actually skipped it in favor of Roman Blood by Steven Saylor which I am really loving so far. Not royal (at least not yet), but a great historical fiction/mystery that gives a ton of details about daily Roman life back in the time of Sulla. I really am enjoying it, if people are looking for that kind of book. Also, I'm pretty sure it's the first in a series where the main character (sort of a debaucherous Sherlock Holmes) reappears throughout the series, so that's a plus if you're on the hunt for a good mystery series.
Oh, I'm going to join in this time, I found a copy on the local library catalogue, and I've just got to wait until someone returns it!
