1034664 I know that's what people are gonna assume, that's it's because Ranger was sidelined in this book why I didn't like it that much. I just felt that this book was nowhere near as good as the others, it just didn't flow, I wrote in my review why it was ok. The book started out promising but then it went downhill, even the Grandma Mazur scenes were lacking, the funniest parts for me were the Lula/Tank scene and the Brenda scenes.

Ranger had a smaller part in Ten big ones and I still loved the book. I know that the reviews have been split over this book and now I know why.

392439 I just finished. I can't say I'm disappointed, but it's not my favorite of the series. It has chuckles, but no rolling on the floor laughter. Innuendo, but no hot crazy sex. Character appearances, but no star moments for my favorites. It sort of seemed like everybody was there going through the motions in a story that wasn't very tightly plotted. I hated when the bad guy seemed to just come out of nowhere. That's my pet peeve in a mystery.

I'd give it a C. I'm not sorry I raced to the bookstore after work and read into the wee hours. I still love Steph. I just hope the next one has more oomph from everyone involved.

959541 I feel the same way. I was actually pretty angry with the book. It's normally my feel-good summer book and all I wanted to do was throw it in the trash! It felt thrown together and I absolutely could not stand Brenda and Carl the Monkey. They were stupid and I felt like Evanovich tried too hard to make them funny.

Nophoto-f-25x33 With the spousal unit playing golf I have started the book.
I think the problem you all have mentioned is that the writing style is totally different. The characters do not express themselves in the same style, the charm is lacking and the expressions are not as outlandish. Did Evanovich write this or someone else?

1034664 Sandra, there's a rumour going around that she didn't write that book because she was busy with her daughters wedding!

702367 My message to Shazzy turned into my review, and now a post, I'm so lazy! :)

The Villain: so lukewarm! He couldn't even cut Loretta's freakin' toes! what a punk! God I miss the days of Benito Ramirez - he was one of the best Plum villains IMHO. Ramirez was dark and terrifying, and had plenty of interaction with Steph. Not so much for the computer tech guy who Steph sees for all of 5 seconds!

Loved: Brenda, Brenda, Brenda - good to see her get a national reality show in the end; Steph still loving BOTH men (although she didn't act like it); Steph and Morelli were so cute together being all domestic - and when he bought her the birthday cake, I think I felt my heart flutter :) and last but not least, Ranger in the tux! <fanning myself>

GGRRR: Steph turning down the many opportunities to hook up with Ranger. Also not happy that the actual scene with Ranger wearing the Tux was so very short! Ranger finally wears a tux, and BOOM! Dinner is over and they're all exhausted - how about Ranger and Steph flirting with each other during dinner...they're all dressed up and glamorous, what a huge waste! And when Steph's evening with Ranger is over, all she can think about is "getting home to Morelli"? (forgive me Michael)

It seems like the series is coming to an end; such disregard for the BABEcakes.

Nophoto-f-25x33 Shazzy, Where did you hear that? Interesting because immediately the characters seemed bland. I think they picked up some in the final chapters,I did get a few laughs there.
Not my favorite of her series.
I like Benito as a villain also. he was scary.

931383 I was a bit disappointed as well. A bit of a let down. There were some good parts, but I'm starting to get tired of Stephanie's stupidity. Using the bathroom of the apartment she's watching? It was so deliberately set up so that something could happen. I hate when stories become so predictable. Like Loretta not having her toes cut off. I knew that they weren't really going to be her toes throughout the whole story, and come on, we all knew that Mario was not Morelli's son.

I also feel like the story was pieced together. The bit in the beginning with Brenda seemed like something thrown in so we could have some Ranger time, even though it really didn't flow with the rest of the story. The scene with Brenda and the film crew taping Bob's poop with Steph's thong submerged in it and Brenda talking about how what they are feeding the dog looked suspicious was just stupid. This whole thing with Tank and Lula getting married is also a waste of time as was the monkey, Carl. They probably will get married though, just to focus Stephanie on the fact that she has to chose between her two loves. I wonder if Janet has placed an ending number on this series. It does seem as if the ideas are getting sparse. However, if she was trying to get this book written while planning her daughter's wedding, which would explain the inclusion of Lula's obsession, she was probably very preoccupied and her writing would be affected by this.

I did appreciate the fact that even though all the activity was centered around Morelli's house, it wasn't Stephanie's fault this time. I also loved the brief bit with Grandma Mazur and her old lady friends dressing Goth and becoming gamers. That was funny, with each of them gathered around the table with their own laptops!

Anyway, there always has to be a book or two in a series that don't work so well for us to appreciate the ones that do. I will be looking forward to the next one, which I have already submitted my name sugestions for.

1-Tony Stewart Bobble Head Doll

2-Brenda dating a "Stock Car" driver

3-Big Mo Candy Bar!!! For any Dale Jr fans you'll know that's his Candy Bar!

388704 Ok so i finished up last night and I was kinda left... wanting more? I Dunno it's like there was no BIG HUGE CLIMAX (and i don't mean her schazam with Morelli) to the story. Not enough Ranger. Funny stuff with Tank. But everything else was just blah.

Nophoto-f-25x33 Yes-I agree. This was one of the so-so books. JE has slowly moved Steph more into the Morelli camp but we do need to move the narrative along. I thought for a moment we'd hear more about the almost-proposal but that the story moved off of that quickly and never circled back.
Maybe the next one....

1289393 Who wrote this book? Are we sure it was Janet? Something was so off about it.

I ran out to the store to buy this yesterday around 5pm and finished after midnight. I was a bit disappointed ... perhaps more than just a bit. And now I have one hardback book in my collection of 14 paperbacks for nothin'.

There was hardly any Ranger.

It wasn't as laugh-out-loud funny.

Is she really phasing Ranger out? Seriously?!? That can't happen. It really seemed that way, though. It seemed like there was some foreshadowing that he was moving on. Sigh ....

Whose toes were those, anyway? There were alot of loose ends in this book. That's unusual and I don't really like it.

Abruzzi and Benito were tough, scary villains!! That crime lab tech was just .... like .... out of nowhere.

1289393 Here's my official review, below. I wonder if anyone in Janet's team reads these things as constructive criticism??

"This was such a great disappointment. I really, really loved the previous books. This didn't even seem like Janet's writing.

I felt the chemistry was lacking between the characters. Ranger was barely an afterthought. Grandma Mazur was funny .... but it didn't seem like she was herself. I don't know. Someone else must have had a part in writing this book because it wasn't like the others. And it wasn't very good.

I will read Plum Spooky and book #15 when they come out. And I'll probably reread the earlier ones, if/when time allows. But I won't reread this one.

And why would Stephanie let Lula jeopardize Rangeman's reputation by her silly antics during the sound check. That seemed selfish of Stephanie to bring her in to help, knowing that it would most likely get chaotic.
