1162733 Last night, the first session of the Life on Mars book club was held at the museum. About 13 or so enthusiastic members attended.

The evening began in the galleries, and discussion started with an iconic Paul Thek image. Examination of Mark Manders' and Fischli-Weiss' work followed, both in context of the novel, but also as individual works of art. The discussion was lively, and began in the galleries even before we got up to the meeting place.

In general, many of the attendees really enjoyed The Mezzanine's use of detailed descriptions of everyday objects and occurences, and found them to be highly emotional and display a sense of gratitude. Change and interconnectivity were also big topics in the discussion.

The next meeting is July 10, and Haruki Murakami's Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World will be discussed. Spaces are still available. You can register by calling 412.622.3288.

Any attendees or others are welcome to use this message board to continue the discussion. The book club discussion question will be posted in a separate post.
