Can we add an actual picture to our posts?

(showing 1-25 of 49)

I know we can link a photo, but is there a way to show the actual picture right in the thread post? Similar to myspace where you cut and paste the code and the photo appears?
I think that would be a great addition if it is not something we can already do....

Flagging a post will send it to the Goodreads Customer Care team for review. We take abuse seriously in our discussion boards. Only flag comments that clearly need our attention. As a general rule we do not censor any content on the site. The only content we will consider removing is spam, slanderous attacks on other members, or extremely offensive content (eg. pornography, pro-Nazi, child abuse, etc). We will not remove any content for bad language alone, or being critical of a particular book.

I would really, really, really like to be able to do this, too. Part of Constant Reader's modus operandi is to show writers' photos, and sometimes to discuss art. It would be so much better if we could actually see the images in the posts.
If it's too much to ask that we be able to upload images directly here, could the ones we link to at least show?

I would love this feature, too. I've never asked for it, though, since I've asked for so many other things already.

No offense, but this might not be such a good idea. Picture posts invariably lead to blinkies, memes, and cat macros. I would be devastated if this site was ever reduced to being
MySpace with Books.
I vote no (I'm pretending like I have a vote!), just because I know where this will all end up. You have a nice discussion of Proust going, things get slightly off topic, someone posts a picture of that cat with the melon on it's head, and the whole operation falls apart. No. Please no.

It would be up to the moderator to lay out the rules of the site, tho. If someone is abusing it, posting ridiculos photos, then it would be up to them to remove them or to ban the poster...
I think it would add to some of the threads... As it stands now, we can hyperlink.. so why not take it to the next level...??

We had the ability to have pictures on our previous site. No one ever posted any blinkies or other stupid stuff.

We've had this on our todo list (near the very bottom) for a long time - so thanks for the votes! If/when we do launch this we will certainly take care to give people controls to avoid blinking cats. Yuck :)

Except in the birthday threads. But that was me, and appropriate (since I'm always appropriate).

I would love this feature! It seems like it's rather essential to communicating in a message board set-up. This is the first board that I've ever used that doesn't allow it. What about just allowing the < img src= / > html tags? That wouldn't be too hard, would it?

Me too. Pictures would vastly enhance my enjoyment, all right, addiction, to Goodreads.

Actually, my interest in images is fairly low (although not zero), but in the broader context I'd like to see more support of general html (or bb) formatting features within the discussion boards, such as color.
The general concern is that the images and/or other formatting features will be abused and/or become irritating, but they can certainly be useful on occasion.

I vote for html and posting pictures and the like. Each group's moderator can be in charge of what they want people to be able to post or not post. Moderators should have an option not to allow html code in their group.

I'd really really like to do this. It would be more convenient and open so many doors.

Moderators should have an option not to allow html code in their group. I'm no programmer (and the ones GR has are an awfully creative bunch!), but that sounds fairly difficult to implement.

I agree, especially since we do already have a few html things we can use.
