book discussion
topic: What did you think of this book?
I am a HUGE Augusten Burroughs fan and have read everything he has ever written - I found this book extremely sad and only laughed out loud in 1 chapter which turned out to be one of the saddest chapters in the end . . . . I am curious as to what others thought since there has been so much controversy on whether or not his stories are really TRUE . .
I felt these stories were completely true. I am a huge Augusten Burroughs fan myself and I feel like I know him intimately now. These stories must have been painful to put into this book and I applaud him.
I laughed out loud more than once in this book, but yeah, not as often as usual. I didn't find humor completely necessary in this book, in fact I would have found it inappropriate in many occassions (I read other reviews where people didn't like how uncomical it was.) Anyway, I applaud him, and I believe him. OBVIOUSLY things are dramatized and paraphrased, but do I care? The book moved me, was as genuine as it could be, and I personally found the darkness of it to be refreshing and perhaps in a dark way, enjoyable.
I did not enjoy it as much as his other books, but I did love this book. The enjoyment of his other books are always the laughs, but this book left pictures in my head that were chilling. I felt it gave me more insight to the crazy events of his life and left me wanting to go back an re-read his other books.
