There are so many- but Jigme's suggestion "Celestine Prophecy" was an absolute mongrel- couldn't finish it and I'm still irritated by the people who tried to live their own lives by it- what sort of prophecy is that??? Mephisto by Klaus Mann (written 1936, reprinted for the 1981 movie) was a real crock, I remember; plus The Mulberry Empire: A Novel by Philip Hensher- so tedious, with sentences as long as a traffic jam!
Wicked was very sllllooooooow. Idid muddle through and it got better at the end - not faster, just a bit better.
I will read almost anything, or try. It's rare when I won't finish a book, *just in case* it gets better.I couldn't finish "Wicked". It was just so awfully dull and dry, it just couldn't live up to all of the hype for me. The same for "Life of Pi". I may give that another try though.
The only other disappointment that really stands out for me was "Leo@fergusrules.com" (yep, it's a book) I can't even recall why, but it's one of the few books I wished I had that my time back afterward.
Worst book I read that I remember was "The Celestine Prophesy" which I'll say started out crap, then by the end it seemed to come together better. I just think it needed a better editor. Well an editor period...Jigme Datse Rasku
I've had a few, and if I finished them, it would be because they were book club picks. One that pops right into mind is "The Innocent Man," by John Grisham - a true story. It was stick a finger down your throat awful. The other one was "I Know This Much is True," by Wally Lamb. Now I need to look through my one star books to see what else. Oh, yeah, "Shoeless Joe," the book Field of Dreams was based on. Blech!
I usually don't finish a book if it is THAT bad, but I suffered through two last year hoping they would get better. The first was At Risk by Patricia Cornwell. I love her books, butthis one wasa giant POS, blech. The other one was Priestess of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Mists of Avalon was so good and this was the sequel. I kept waiting for it to get good and when I finished it, I just thought "really? That was it? Well crap." Not good at all!
Ok so we all have read at least one in their lifetime, so tell me and us....what is the worst book you have ever read? Why was it the worst? Was it outside of what you normally would read? Was it recommended to you by someone? Did you finish it or bag it before it was done. You know the drill...drop your comments here.
