I doubt I would like the book as someone else warned me about it too. It sure is good to get tips as there are so many books I want to read and not enough time.

1259216 I haven't seen "No Country for Old Men" (or "Men in Black").

Haven't read the book either. I'm not sure I enjoy Cormac McCarthy's style of writing. I read _All the Pretty Horses_ and wasn't crazy about it, although I recognize McCarthy's skill as a writer.

I felt sorry for Gus too! He loved her for so many years. I think she was jealous of his friendship with Call.

We just watched No Country for Old Men and Tommy Lee Jones was great in that. I also liked him in Men in Black especially when he sang the Elvis song and turned his car over. LOL!

My group is so dead tonight. I hope it perks up soon.

1259216 I liked Call (Woodrow Call played by Tommy Lee Jones). Don't know why Clara Allen (played by Anjelica Huston) hated him so much. I guess I missed something there because I felt sorry for him.

Anyway, I think Tommy Lee Jones made the character of Woodrow Call irresistible.

Yes, I like his dying words you posted here , thanks! Robert Duvall ...he can make me love him or hate him. If I watch The Great Santini I loathe him. Call reminds me of my husband as he doesn't talk much but if he promises something he will die trying to do it.
SPOILER........
Wasn't it amazing he took Gus all the way back to TX to that special spot to bury him? Poor Call, that was too much!

1259216 We have mourning doves here too, Alice.
There's a photo here: ====>

Yes, who could resisit the character of Gus McRae (played by Robert Duvall).
He had a way with women... and sense of humor too.

His dying words were perfect:
"By God, Woodrow; it's been one hell of a party."

Also here again today. I keep getting lost in the different topics and cannot seem to find my way back to where I
was!!
DUH....
Was glad I found Lonesome Dove. Altho its the name of the town there is a dove in TX that is called the Mourning Dove and it makes a very soft cooing sound. Don't you just LOVE Gus McRae?

1259216 Alice gave me this "Roll Call" idea. It's a way for lurkers, occasional posters, and other members, to let us know they've been here. So please just add your first name to the list. Thanks.
