772262 That would be awesome Tanja. The map is a lot of fun but a spreadsheet would be very easy to read.

My idea was that when we had clusters of one country we could open a seperate thread and discuss that one particular country (culture/literacy etc) Which is what we did in the mideastern thread that Tera opened.

2026178 Tanja, look back up the thread and find the link to a google map for books read by our group.

I have been in the US mostly since last I reported with the exception of Those Who Save Us in Germany.

2342217 Yup. I saw the google map but it's difficult to read solely by a straight off list or to calculate percentages ;)

I'm such the nerd though with spreadsheets. Watch me google doc it later on.

772262 I love spreadsheets. I make them for everyone at work and then I have to teach them how to read it.

2342217 This worksheet is up to Message 285:
http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=t...

You'll see England is the most popular place to visit in this Book Challenge (up to Msg 285).

772262 This is excellent Tanja. Thank you.

2026178 I see you have Guernsey listed as France, but the Guernsey Islands are English.

2342217 Figured people can look at the spreadsheet to easily see recommendations for certain countries rather than searching through 8 pages of postings.

I'll finish once I give my eyes a rest.

2342217 Updated the spreadsheet and thanks Elizabeth for that edit!

The United States has taken the lead at 19 with England at a close 18.

If a person said BookA visited US City A and US City B plus Country C, I listed the book three times alongside each visitation.

For example, in Band of Brothers, they go from the US to England to France and lastly Germany (well then back to the US).

772262 I don't think I added these books:

Floating in My Mother's Palm - Hegi - Germany
Sarah's Key - England/Germany
The Wild and True Adventures of the Hunt Sisters - USA
The Zookeeper's Wife - Germany
The Factory Girls - China

2026178 Meg - what did you think of the Hegi book?

message 362: by Meg (new)

772262 I liked it but was a tad disappointed because Stones from the River was so terrific. If I had read it in reverse order I think I would have thought differently. It was good but not outstanding.

message 363: by Elizabeth (new)

2026178 Thanks, Meg.I guess it's too much to expect 5 star reads from an author every time.

message 364: by Meg (new)

772262 I know. Don't get me wrong I liked it but I didn't love it. I am still going to read some other books from her, because I thought Stones was extraordinary.

message 365: by Elizabeth (new)

2026178 I got Stones at a library book sale just because I liked the cover, and for 50 cents, why not? What a treasure!

1283225 I'm reading Inkheart right now. Well, actually listening to it on audio. I'm trying to figure out exactly where the "real world" parts take place. The internet has given me some conflicting information. Anyone know for sure?
