424514 Hey All! I wanted to draw your attention to a new group here on Goodreads, devoted to discussion of the Girls' School Story. Those with an interest in this genre of children's novels might want to check it out:

424514 Apparently I was not clear enough.
Authors: this is NOT the space for self-promotion! Keep posting here, and I will block you from this group.

424514 Hi Everyone: I'm sorry to have to play policewoman again, but I wanted to remind you (as per the sentence in bold, which can be found in the first post of this thread), that this is not the place for author announcements or promotion.

424514 Hello All! Svetlana announces:

"I have just started a new group Poetry for Children. The goal is to collect the best children's poetry selection on our bookshelf, to have authors of poetry for children introduce themselves and their books, to discuss poetry for children by any author of any age and to have lots of members who either write or just love to read poetry for kids.
We have announced a contest for a story in rhyme for children. All entries to be submitted by authors by Thanksgiving of 2009. You can submit more than one story, but you have to be the author!!!!!!!!!A story can be anything, a fairytale, a ballad, a mystery... let your imagination soar!"

For all those interested in children's poetry, and poetry for children, please consider joining her group:

2103770 I have just been to the Federation of Children's Book Groups Conference 2009. If anyone in the United Kingdom is interested in encouraging children to read at home and at school I would recommend this organisation.

This group looks great! I was just thinking that as much as I've loved reading everyone's comments, it was getting a little confusing as people jumped back and forth between movies/books. I'm looking forward to the discussions :)

I just got a flyer in the mail saying the first book fair of the year will be from March 14th to 29th. They always have lots of great deals, so be sure to check it out if you're in the area. They're located just south of Harrisonburg, Virginia. Here's the website: http://gobookfair.com/

216382 For those of you on the East Coast in the U.S., I just found out about a children's lit festival at Salisbury University (in Salisbury, Maryland) this April that is FREE and open to anyone. I'm definitely considering making the drive up for it since not only does it sound good, but BETSY LEWIN will be there!! Here's the link if you want more info:

216382 Another shameless plug . . . I moved my early childhood educators and parents to Goodreads (SO much better than Yahoo, but I'm sure you already knew that!). We're just getting rolling, but if anyone wants to join the fun, the group is called Chicka Chicka Book Book. We'd love to have you on board!

:) Emily

Although all my blogs are not on children's books, the last two are. Tonight I wrote about how to prevent some of the problems I've seen when parents attend a school book fair with a child so that the experience is enjoyable for all.

I'm glad someone started this topic so I can shamelessly promote my own children's lit group! :) It's a Yahoo group (sorry, Goodreads!) called Chicka Chicka Book Book. It's mainly for early childhood educators and parents, but anyone with an interest in books for young children can join. The purpose of the group is for educators and parents to connect with one another and share book recommendations and fun classroom activities. (That's the official purpose, anyway. The unofficial purpose is to give me an excuse to rave about the books I love, tee hee hee.) The group is still getting going, and right now I'm usually the only person who posts any messages, but hopefully that will change soon! Be sure to check it out if you're interested. Everyone here always has great ideas and book recommendations and I would love to see you there! If you're not interested, but know someone who would be, please feel free to pass the web address along to them!

Here's the website:

672756 Tahleen wrote: "Ohh, that does sound good! How are you organizing the giveaway?"

Full instructions are on the site, but essentially you just have to come to the site and leave a comment that you are interested in the book. [Well, I guess that and a way of notifying you if you win:]

The winners will be chosen by random drawing. (Hubby has found some sort of random number generator/choser on the web)

Billy and the Birdfrogs was one of my favorite books for 2008. I have two copies to give away.

Below are some links. One of which takes you to Amazon where you can read a few pages to see if it's something your children, or you, might enjoy.

It's a book for Tweeners -- age 8 to 13.

[OKay, and for moms too. I read it for myself, and then my husband read it to our 8 year old. Even hubby liked it.:]

You can find my review here.

And Read a bit of it at Amazon ... HERE.

now to delete the post from where it don't belong

424514 It has come to my attention that there is no easily accessible space provided here in our group, for member announcements. So here we go!

Do you want to alert members to a special online event or posting? Just want to draw attention to another group that you're involved with, and think our members could benefit from? Please post here, and keep us up-to-date on the exciting developments!

PLEASE NOTE: Book announcements, and any other author promotion, should still go in the "Books by CB Group Members" folder. Thank you!
