1412037 This isn't a book, but there's a classic film about photography called The Blow Up that you might find interesting.

1341512 One that I have on my To Read shelf is The Oxford Project. A more fun, silly one that is more about the photographer than the photos is Exposed Confessions of a Wedding Photographer A Memoir - this is also on my To Read shelf so I can't give you any personal recommendations on either yet.

1287856 The funniest photograhy books are those by Ed Ruscha. Little gems of pseudo-serious art photography of Los Angeles banality.

Such as Real Estate Opportunities.

335756 That makes more sense since there are so many of the others about. I'll try and have a think about it also.

1937917 Ruth: I actually have all of those except for the Ron Stark. Dorothea Lange is my all time favorite photographer...along with like 50 others!!

Ricki: When I posted this thread I meant to make a note that I was looking for fiction. I can almost promise you I hav flipped through all of the technique books, have studied the photos in every 'picture' book and have done everyhing in my power to know as much about my profession as possible. Now I want to read something that involves my profession from a different point of view and I think a really good fiction would do that really well. I'm just having a hard time finding some.

335159 I haven't done any serious photography for about 25 years, so my photography collection is pretty dated. If I were you I'd look for collections of work, either by photographers you are interested in, or of work featuring certain subjects.

I can recommend Delicacis - Ron Stark - a personal view of food

Family Photographs, Content, Meaning and Effect - Julia Hirsch

When Two or More are Gathered Together - group photos - Neal Slavin

To a Cabin - Dorothea Lange - a personal favorite of mine

Ralph Eugene Meatyard - Aperture - slightly weird photos of people

Time Frames - The meaning of Family Pictures - Michael Lesy

Suburbia - Bill Owens - another personal favorite

335756 Can you narrow this down to what types of photography you are interested in? Do you want books of photos, books that discuss photographic techniques?

1937917 Has anyone come across any good books on photography. All the ones that I have found are either teaching you how, biographies, or they are by Susan Sontag...

Any suggestions??
