Its about a kid who was born with a heart condition that requires him to take meds everyday. One day he forgets to take them and notices that he feels alot better and is stronger he hurles some kid across a feild durring a soccer game without touching him. He finds out he is one of the last survivers of the warriors guild and is destined to fight to the death in a tournament that is held by the other guilds.

I was totally hooked from the start too, I like the books because there's always something happening, and there's a lot of drama. I've also got a few of my friends hooked on it now. Although I thought that the 5th book, Hunted, seemed kinda like a filler, and that it could have been more interesting.
Have you read the Vampire Academy series yet? Cause if you like these books I'm sure that you'll like the Vampire Academy ones too, I thought that they were even better, I loved them.

Hi, Gini -

Has she read The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants? One of the characters on the series has a conflicted relationship with her single father (her mother committed suicide). That plot thread continues into the second book in the series when the character realizes her father has been keeping her maternal grandmother a secret.

This same character also loses her virginity in the first book, but it is alluded to rather then shown, and the emotional consequences are depicted realistically as the character has a pretty tough time dealing with that part of it.

As a bonus, the first two books were also made into pretty decent movies, so maybe after she reads the books she could watch the movies....

I hope this help!

MZ

2682871 have a question for this group. My friend's daughter is 11, and splits her time living with her single dad and her mom. She's going through a tough time with her dad. She feels he doesn't understand that she's changing emotionally and physically. Because he's divorced she also views him as lonely and even somewhat off putting to others. He is moody and has a bad temper, but clearly loves her.

She's very bright and rather wise for so young a girl. I'm wondering whether any of you have heard of any very good YA novels about fathers and daughters. her parents allow a certain amount of sex, etc. in her novel choices, but I can't give her a book that has a lot of sex and cussing, if you know what I mean.

Thanks so much.

I just read the first sentence and it sent shivers of down my spine...and then I ended up reading the whole first chapter before I realized that I had some homework that needed to be completed...

1702195 I loved the Uglies series! I stopped after the third one because the last book is through a different character's perspective, so I didn't try it. Probably should of, but it was character's I grew attached to.

2488338 I'm reading The Life of Pi and Elsewhere, but I'm getting tired of them.....yawn. Is there anything else I could read? It stinks that I can't get any library book instantly and free, or else I probably would have read every book on my to read list by now:(

message 102: by Angee (new)

1702195 I love it when it rains too! My creative juices begin to flow when the rains starts to pour. Currently, I am reading The Percy Jackson series (Book two: The Sea of Monsters. I enjoyed the first one, but heard the books get even better as the series goes on.

2271150 I'm not reading anything right now. If I want to read something (since it's summer) I have to buy a book and I hate buying books I've never read simply because I may be wasting money on a book I dont like. But I KNOW I want to buy and read "My Sister's Keeper", you know, the one coming out in the movies. I read the plot and it definitely sounds like one I'd love. But there's one I've wanted to read since school but I can't remember the name of it...it's bugging me.

I enjoyed them a lot, Courtney. Although the third one was a bit slow in the beginning, once I got caught up in the story, I enjoyed it a lot. She also has a new book coming out in October - the first of a new series.
