In Australia there are two recognized awards for Australian science fiction, fantasy and horror fiction, the Aurealis and the Ditmar. The Aurealis differs to the Ditmar in that it divides work into sub-genre and age categories.

The 2008 Aurealis Awards will be held in Brisbane, Australia on Saturday 24 January when the winners will be announced.

Best fantasy novel finalists are :

The Two Pearls of Wisdom by Alison Goodman
Amberlight by Sylvia Kelso
Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagan
Heir to Sevenwaters by Juliet Marillier
The Riven Kingdom by Karen Miller

There are also Awards for best fantasy short story.

I noticed that Neil Gaiman gave a 5 star rating to Tender Morsels and so has our group member Alisa and that this novel is also a 2009 Printz Contender running at 9th position on Goodreads Listopia: Listopia - Printz Contenders. This novel looks like it has a good chance of winning the Award from reading other comments elsewhere: 2009 Mock Printz
