1939651 I read I Capture the Castle for 10 points as a book with an author that has same birthday month as you (task #2).

message 326: by Lori, The Over-Caffeinated Coffee Girl (new)

1769862 I was all for going ahead and posting it yesterday afternoon without a huge announcement to see how many people just happened upon it. But Jamie was at work and I thought she might kill me. Plus, we do have a couple of things to iron out before we post the list.

message 325: by Jamie, the forever 21 slave (new)

1518370 haha yes you shall..the unveiling will happen tomorrow..I was going to do it tonight but I figured I'd wait until Lori and I both give it the final go!! :)

message 324: by Tahleen (new)

1868279 gaaaahhhhhhhhhhh not faaaaaaiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrr\

well yes i suppose it is fair since you co-wrote it. but we helped! and we will see it tomorrow! unfortunately i have work in six hours, ha... so good night i suppose.

message 323: by Jamie, the forever 21 slave (new)

1518370 haha shiny and new...and I'm totally looking at it RIGHT now! mwahahah...in my totally evil laugh.

message 322: by Tahleen (new)

1868279 I will try to use as many as I can for both, though I think summer challenge will capture much more of my attention because it is shiny and new!

message 321: by Lori, The Over-Caffeinated Coffee Girl (last edited May 09, 2009 08:03PM) (new)

1769862 You definitely don't have to use the same books, but it's an option because some people might end up having to choose between them.

I can't wait until Jamie and I post the list of categories! I'm anxious to see what people choose!

message 320: by Liz (new)

75360 Ahh, but I want to read a bunch of books! I guess I'll just have to see how similar I wind up making them.

message 319: by Lori, The Over-Caffeinated Coffee Girl (new)

1769862 Liz and Lynn, We're still keeping the school year challenge. You're allowed to use books (as long as you haven't already read and marked them off for the school year challenge) for both if they'll fit, so you won't necessarily be reading a bunch of books.

message 318: by Lynn (new)

642493 I'm thinking about just dropping my school year challenge and focusing on the summer one when we start.

message 317: by Liz (new)

75360 I'm excited! Will we still keep doing this challenge as well?

message 316: by Annashu (new)

1931729 I'm ready and excited. Hoping to finish my books today so I can plan my next books. I hadn't really expected to get so into the challenge except I realized that it is a great way to get through my TBR's and read books I would have never read otherwise.

message 315: by Lori, The Over-Caffeinated Coffee Girl (new)

1769862 One more day until the summer challenge categories are posted. Are you (aside from Tahleen who was BORN ready) ready?

message 314: by Liz (new)

75360 I finished Got You Back for book with a woman as the main character (5 pts).

message 313: by Tahleen (new)

1868279 Oh, I was BORN ready.

message 312: by Lori, The Over-Caffeinated Coffee Girl (new)

1769862 Jamie and I will be posting the categories on Sunday...so be ready...

message 311: by Tahleen (new)

1868279 Can't wait for summer challenge :)

message 310: by R (new)

1771278 Ahh I see, sorry about that! Thanks for the clarification. I guess I'll join in with the summer challenge then. :)

message 309: by Jamie, the forever 21 slave (new)

1518370 R-

(and anyone else)

Lori is right. The point of the challenge was to find books to specifically read for the challenges..not try to just fit books in along the way..because what is the fun in that? I apologize though..it wasn't expressly stated..and that is my fault as it was the first try of doing a challenge. However, the Summer challenge will be starting soon if you want to have a fresh jump at that one.

message 308: by Lori, The Over-Caffeinated Coffee Girl (new)

1769862 R, even though it wasn't specifically stated, Jamie and I were thinking that people would only use books that they've read since joining the challenge, rather than find books they've read in the past 4 months that would fit. It's more fair to the people who joined the challenge in the beginning and have been reading specifically for the challenge (or choosing not to). Sorry for any inconvenience.

message 307: by R (new)

1771278 Jamie or Lori... is it ok if I watch a TV show instead of a movie for the fourth 10-point challenge? Probably a silly question, but I'm trying to fit the books I've read since January into the challenge categories. :) Thank you!

message 306: by Linda Grace (new)

1939651 Jamie/Lori- I changed my name in my settings because there were 2 Lindas in my YA challenge. Hope this is okay. Right now I have a total of 135 and you can update my name to be Linda Grace so that it doesn't get too confusing. Thanks!

message 305: by Liz (last edited May 03, 2009 10:34AM) (new)

75360 I am changing my classic in my challenge to Dracula, which I read over my spring break, so I should have 5 more points for that.
I also just changed my book for female as a main character to Got You Back by Jane Fallon and book in the last 5 years to The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao.

179762 Lori wrote: "Allison, Jamie and I have decided that you can use a book from your school year challenge list if you haven't already read it. I know what you mean because I didn't want to have two separate grou..."

sounds great.
i love participating in these challenges, because i always discover so many books, and i enjoy trying to fit books into different categories, but when you can't double up, it gets tedious and loses some of its fun.

message 303: by Lori, The Over-Caffeinated Coffee Girl (new)

1769862 Allison, Jamie and I have decided that you can use a book from your school year challenge list if you haven't already read it. I know what you mean because I didn't want to have two separate groups of books to read.

message 302: by Allison (new)

179762 what if you did the summer challenge, but let people use books they've read for summer for the school year, but not previously read books for summer?
that way, those of us who enjoy both challenges can feel like we're making headway on both, or those who just want to do one or the other can?
we don't necessarily have to do the same topics, but as we all have found out, some books can fit into multiple categories.

message 301: by Lynn (new)

642493 just finished Salvation on Sand Mountain for a topic you wish you could have studied. It was really really interesting!

message 300: by Carol (new)

2046576 Oh go, this challenge is huuuuge

message 299: by Liz (new)

75360 I recently finished Beyond Ragnarok for 5 points (author I'd never read before).

message 298: by Lori, The Over-Caffeinated Coffee Girl (new)

1769862 Tahleen, The Fountainhead took me a while too, but I really enjoyed it. I immediately thought I needed to re-read again since the last parts are somewhat hazy because I'd started school by the time I finished. Someday I will read it again.

message 297: by Linda Grace (new)

1939651 Just finished Good in Bed as my book written by a GoodReads author for 15 points (challenge #4).

message 296: by Tahleen (new)

1868279 I personally love the idea of a summer challenge, it'll give me new motivation haha. Plus I have my own little mini challenge each summer, which is why I hate The Fountainhead so much, it took me a whole month to read and when you only have three months that's a lot of time to spend on one book. If I really liked it it wouldn't have been such a big deal but I resent it now as well as thinking it wasn't that great... it ruined my plans! lol

message 295: by Lori, The Over-Caffeinated Coffee Girl (new)

1769862 Lynn, That's a good question. Jamie and I haven't made any definite decisions, but we might keep the challenge going and you'll be allowed to use any unread books for the school year and summer challenge. I'd feel bad scrapping it completely because some people don't want to do fall challenge, some people are almost done, and some people are just having fun. But we haven't set anything in stone. We'll send out a message with the plan later.

message 294: by Lynn (new)

642493 so i have a question about the challenge.... since there's been this talk of doing a summer challenge and such... when is the school year challenge ending? Are we just going to scrap it? If so, can I use the books I haven't read on the summer challenge?

that's fine.

message 292: by Tahleen (new)

1868279 David, what do you think of them? They're some of my favorites.

message 291: by David (new)

748458 I just finished book 3 of the Wrinkle in Time series (I also read book 2) but I read book 1 before the challenge started. Only book 1 is listed on the website you gave, but all of the series has been banned or challenged at several schools due to L'Engle's promotion of Christian Universalism. Can I count it, or does it have to have the title on that list?

1518370 Lori wrote: "This is not to be taken in a mean way, but is there another moderator aside from Jamie? (I was thinking that there was) I know Jamie's really busy with her job. It would be nice if there was ano..."

haha I totally never saw this. Yeah..I was on vacation for a week or so..I would have answered even if I was busy with work..but alas I was in another country. lol. sorry about that..next time I'll post a thread (I think I randomly mentioned it in a thread..who knows though) saying that I'm gone or something..haha like an out of the office response. :)

message 289: by Jamie, the forever 21 slave (new)

1518370 correct! You just update that with your total on the bottom. This is just used if you want to post what you just finished or have questions.

message 288: by Michelle Kay (new)

2155859 just to make sure.

i am NOT to post again on the other school year thread.
just to update my current thread.
and it will be counted in the next leaderboard. right???

message 287: by Kristen (new)

327471 Haha, no problem. Easy cut and paste!

message 286: by Jamie, the forever 21 slave (new)

1518370 Kristen..this is kind of confusing..but we started it in this thread and then soon after found an easier way to do the adding up of points. So this thread is for general questions or posting updates of a particular book you just read. The other thread in this folder that says "REAL official challenge" is the "official one".

I should change the name of this thread lol. No wonder everyone is confused! My bad everyone..I slacked.

message 285: by Kristen (last edited Apr 21, 2009 04:15PM) (new)

message 284: by Jamie, the forever 21 slave (new)

1518370 its not a problem. There was a lot of posts going on everywhere about it so I'd imagine it would be easy to skip over.

message 283: by Annashu (new)

1931729 ok thanks, I skimmed but there are a lot of posts of this so it is possible I missed it.

I think this was answered before somewhere but I can't remember..but basically what I said was that you could pick one that was required at other schools but not your own..so your brothers would work.

message 281: by David (new)

748458 Ever watch the movie instead of reading the book and then writing a book report on it? :)

message 280: by Annashu (new)

1931729 I've been trying really hard to think of a book I skipped for school (high school or college) and I don't think I ever have, I was kinda a dork snob and looked down on people who didn't read the books. I saw a few other people had similar questions but I never found answers. My brother is in high school so maybe I could read a book that he is assigned but I never was?

message 279: by Jamie, the forever 21 slave (new)

1518370 mmm..I'm a yes and a no..but sure go for it.. :)
