1284884 It's Groundhog Day and I've popped my head out of my burrow in Northern Ireland to say 'hi' and introduce myself. I'm Dianne Ascroft and I recently released my first historical fiction, Hitler and Mars Bars. While it is a fiction it could be classed as inspirational as it's the story of a German boy displayed by the Second World War and aided by the Irish Red Cross. The story follows his life as he grows up in a foreign land - surmounting every problem he faces. He's a plucky child and is never beaten by any circumstance. You can check out more about the book at www.geocities.com/dianne_ascroft.

Nophoto-f-25x33 Hi everyone,

I'm so glad to be invited into this group. My first published novella, Christian fiction, "Rebekah Redeemed" was released this past week and I had my first book signing. We had a small group, but I sold 9 books. It felt like my whole life had been experienced for that moment. It's up on awoc.com (the publisher's website) as well as Barnes & Nobel and Amazon.com.

The story is of a young girl who must suffer through being treated as a slave in her relatives homes and "The Tainted Mirror: An Anthology" This book includes my story "Second Chances."

I have several other stories, articles, and books in the works and am a ghostwriter. I've ghostwritten 10 books in the past three years.

I'm eager to get to know you all.

I have a couple of YA fantasy recommendations...

Christian Fantasy…

I recently received a copy of Calitare Restore in my mailbox. Alixandria DeSpain and Lucinda Laughlin sent me a copy of their book and requested I consider it for review. I added the book to my ever-growing stack. It took me a few weeks before I pulled it from the shelf. I had no idea the adventure that lay ahead of me; if I had, I would have immediately opened the cover.

DeSpain and Laughlin have created a delightful land called Calitare. Mermaids and magic abound. Willow, Evadne, and their adopted brother, Gustave, live happily with their father the King. Then war threatened the inhabitants of Calitare. The sisters stand strong in the midst of battle, relying on God for strength and salvation.

I found this story amazing. Calitare is Christian romance and fantasy. The love story is one of purity and innocence. The authors manage to share the gospel with readers. I am reminded of C.S. Lewis. In their own way, they have described the relationship between humans and God. They demonstrate salvation, forgiveness, and grace in a way that is easy to understand. They manage all of this without being preachy. Their tale is filled with enough adventure to keep the reader eagerly turning the pages. Calitare will appeal to all ages. This is the first book in this series. I will be watching closely for the names Alixandria DeSpain and Lucinda Laughlin. I think we will be hearing much more from them.

Both young and old will enjoy…

Brothers, Hadyn and Ewan, are mourning the loss of their mother. Along with their father and twin brothers, they move to Missouri. The teenage boys find a stone arch that leads them to another dimension. Once there, they meet an odd assortment of quirky characters. The inhabitants of the Hidden Lands look to Hadyn and Ewan as their rescuers. There is a battle between good and evil. The boys must join the fight.

The Book of Names is a fabulous tale. It has a Christian message without being preachy. The characters are enchanting. This is the first in a new trilogy. I eagerly await the next installment. Fans of fantasy both young and old will enjoy The Book of Names.

Humor, adventure, danger, twists and turns…

Jenny L Cote is an extremely talented author. The Ark, the Reed & the Fire Cloud is sure to be a favorite of your child. The plot follows Max, a Scottish terrier, and Liz, a feline, as they lead other various animals to Noah’s Ark. Cote never allows her tale to be boring. She uses humor, adventure, danger, twists, and turns throughout the plot.

The Ark, the Reed & the Fire Cloud will make a great read aloud to your children or grandchildren. Some children will even want to read it to themselves, although 437 pages may be a bit daunting to most young children. It is easy to recommend this book to parents and grandparents.

Legend of Witch Bane, The

The thing legends are made of…

They say you can’t judge a book by its cover, but it this case you most definitely can. The cover of The Legend of Witch Bane is brightly colored and inviting. It speaks of adventures inside.

Kevis Hendrickson creates his own imaginative kingdom complete with elves, goblins, werewolves, dragons, and even an evil queen. Three children set out on a quest to retrieve Witch Bane (a sword) to save their kingdom. Hendrickson has a talent for painting a picture using words. I could see the landscape developing in front of me as though he were using a paint brush.

I cannot do justice to this book. I believe that it could possibly become a legend of its own. This book would make great bedtime reading. Young adults will enjoy this fantasy, and so will older adults. If you like fairy tales and legends you will love The Legend of Witch Bane.

Amazing read…

The Strand Prophecy is the first installment of a new five book series. The talent behind this book is incredible. The Strand Prophecy is the product of a father and his thirteen-year-old twin daughters. The artwork is amazing. The Strand Prophecy is the modern story of an “action hero.” Strand’s mission is to warn the world of the acceleration of evolution. When he is not wearing his superhero suit and riding missiles he is Steve Cutter of Cutter Technologies. His niece Anna is his sidekick. The action never stops in this book. They travel around the world fending off 100-pound lethal toads, giant worms, and snakes. Howler an intelligent monkey risks his life to save theirs. The Strand Prophecy is written in an exaggerated style. This book is sure to please fans of dark fantasy and science fiction. The Strand Prophecy is written for YA but many adults will enjoy it too.

1628945 My Name is Yvonne Mason. I have authored and published several books my first one being Stan's Story, A Touch of Love. This book is the reason I am accomplished not only in writing but in receiving my degree in Criminal Justice after being out of school for over 34 years.
Stan is my younger brother who is challenged. He was born in 1952 when there were no resources for the challenged. He was never supposed to be anything other than just a sad piece of humanity thrown into the wells of despire and lonelness in an asylum. This didn't happen he was kept at home and taught us as much if not more than we taught him. He became a pioneer in the Fulton County Ga school system at a time when the challenged had no rights and didn't receive and education. He graduated from Russell High School in East Point in 1973 and has been working in the public sector since he was 16 years old. He believes he can do what ever he sets his mind to doing. He has touched and influenced many lives and continues to do so today.
He is an inspiration to all who meet him and who read about him.
This book should be on everyone's list-

All books sent to RYB become the property of the reviewer. The reviewer is free to use reviews in any manner that will be beneficial to him/her as long as we get due credit.

If a book receives a review of 3 or less we do not post review unless the author requests we do so. We are determined to be fair and honest but will not hurt an author. We will send a copy of the review to the author if we do not post it.
