Meg (megvt) | 2633 comments This will be our summer read. If anyone wants to lead let me know or else I will lead the discussion. Who is in?

Sheila | 1710 comments I'm in. And Meg, I am thrilled that you picked this one (of the two top vote getters) to read first. Infinite Jest scares me! (especially having just finished Ulysses!) :o)

Beth | 149 comments Oh my gosh! Yay! I'm definitely in!!

Stacy (stcyct) | 61 comments I once again will try to be in and not fall behind! I have a better chance since it is summer and I have most of August off.

Rebecca | 841 comments I have down time so I would love too try too.

Jayme(the ghost reader) (JaymeILtheghostreader) | 3877 comments holy cow, this is 1400 pages.

Sheila | 1710 comments Jayme(the ghost reader) wrote: "holy cow, this is 1400 pages."

LOL! Yep, which is why this is going to be a "Chunky" read! Though maybe we should call it "Obese"! :o)

Petra | 244 comments I'm reading this in September with another group. I may get started early and join in here, too (although it won't be until August).

Meg (megvt) | 2633 comments This will be a great group, I am excited. Next book will be the encyclopedia from A to Z

Rebecca | 841 comments Meg that should be nothing for you that read Ulysses and are going to read A Suitable Boy. ;)

Meg (megvt) | 2633 comments But we are going to have to read it backwards to keep up the challenge

Laura (apenandzen) | 1412 comments I may join in on this one....I picked this up late last year and the writing seemed a bit flat. Not sure if I'll finish, but I may try and at least start it with you guys.

Laura (apenandzen) | 1412 comments Meg, when are you planning to start? July or August?

Marialyce If it is in August, I can join in,on this book as well.

Marialyce If you are reading it in August, I can join in.

Meg (megvt) | 2633 comments I think we need a breather from the tome we just finished, so the first of August is looking good. I have to find a book so I can set up the reading schedule.

Laura (apenandzen) | 1412 comments Hmm, I guess it could go thru October, then?

Meg (megvt) | 2633 comments maybe, unless we read fast, I don't know the book so I don't know how readable it is

Sheila | 1710 comments I think an August start sounds good. It doesn't look like A Suitable Boy is available as a kindle/ebook edition, so everyone interested will need to round up a real copy of this book.

Since it was first published in 1993 though, there should be plenty of inexpensive used copies out there for people who do not want to splurge for a new book. I ordered a used copy from Amazon. :o)

Meg (megvt) | 2633 comments I ordered a used copy from Amazon as well, the shipping was more expensive than the book! ($3 for shipping)

Laura (apenandzen) | 1412 comments I've decided not to do this one, but may do the next.

Irene | 1173 comments Count me in

Tina | 44 comments Since it's starting in August, I'll give it a try. Hopefully, I can keep up. :)

Marialyce For those who need to buy the book, betterworldbooks.com has it for $3.98 and free shipping.

Petra | 244 comments With an August start, I'm definitely in on this read.

Vicki | 530 comments I just ordered this, so I plan to join in.

Meg (megvt) | 2633 comments What a great groups!

Rebecca | 841 comments I got mine today. I think my wrist is broken.

Meg (megvt) | 2633 comments Too funny!

Stacy (stcyct) | 61 comments I got mine today as well...it is going to be a workout just to hold it while reading! I took a look at the first couple sections and it seems like a pretty easy read. I've already made it further than I did in Ulysses!

Meg (megvt) | 2633 comments Ha ha Stacy. I am still waiting patiently for mine. I hate when they promise delivery on a certain date and have no intention on keeping their word,

Sheila | 1710 comments I just got my used, hardcover copy. Dang! I set it on my postage scale, and it weighs 4 1/2 lbs! LOL

Stacy (stcyct) | 61 comments Sheila wrote: "I just got my used, hardcover copy. Dang! I set it on my postage scale, and it weighs 4 1/2 lbs! LOL"

I know! I knew when I saw the size of the amazon box alone I was in big trouble!

Marialyce So, the UPS guy is going to need a forklift to deliver it to my door?

Meg (megvt) | 2633 comments Just think how buff we will be when we finish reading it!

Vicki | 530 comments Uh Oh.. I ordered mine from Better World Books with 8 other books..

Stacy (stcyct) | 61 comments I don't have a ton of faith in the paperback glue's ability to hold this guy together :)

Vicki | 530 comments It wouldn't be the first book I had held together with rubber bands and binder clips. My copy of Great Gatsby had pages falling behind me as I was teaching.

Meg (megvt) | 2633 comments Someone said that this book was very readable.

message 41: by Sheila (last edited Jul 06, 2012 06:31pm) (new) - rated it 2 stars

Sheila | 1710 comments Meg wrote: "Someone said that this book was very readable."

That will make it a plus over Ulysses then! :o)

Catherine Robertson | 10 comments I loved A Suitable Boy, and ripped through it. Wasn't so keen on An Equal Music, though.

Sandra (Sandee) | 289 comments okay...it's summer and I am off of work. There is no reason why I cannot read this one...oh, that horrid dissertation that I am working on...lol. Ulysses didn't do it for me. I tried it all...audible book version...I got the best sleep of my life. I will order this book.

Meg (megvt) | 2633 comments Funny Sandra it didn't help with my sleep at all!

message 45: by Meg (last edited Jul 11, 2012 04:45am) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Meg (megvt) | 2633 comments Sorry the reading schedule is taking so long but my book hasn't arrived yet, probably no one at the post office could figure out how to lift it.

So if anyone wants to start reading without the schedule posted, let's plan on reading approximately 150 pages or if anyone can let us know where a chapter break is around there those lucky enough to have the book can start reading!

Marialyce That's funny, Meg. My book also has not arrived and I was wondering if someone got hurt trying to lift it!

Rebecca | 841 comments Where did you order it from Meg and Marialyce?

Meg (megvt) | 2633 comments Used from Amazon

Marialyce I got it from Better World books.

Vicki | 530 comments I ordered mine from better world books. I love them, but their shipping takes awhile. Generally amazon is better, but I have been trying to get books to plan for next year and two sellers haven't shipped the books weeks after I ordered them.
