2012 July PIFM – Picking RulesWhether it’s a DVD at home on a long summer evening or a trip to the cinema to get out of the afternoon heat, movies are a great way to relax and escape reality for a few hours.
Continuing with the casual and relaxed atmosphere that MountainKat created last month, we are again going to have a rather relaxed format for this month's PIFM. Please try to choose a minimum of two books that are new to your pickee and two that are from their TBR. In keeping with the casual format I tried to keep the categories pretty loose and open to interpretation, so kick back, relax, and Happy Reading!
1. Blockbuster Hit - Choose a book that is (or has been) a bestseller, or that you’ve heard a lot of buzz about.
2. Tearjerker - Recommend a book that is very emotional.
3. Independent Film - Select a book that is written by a new or lesser known author, or published by a smaller or independent publisher (not the “Big 6”).
4. Enduring Classic - Select a book that has been on your pickee’s TBR for a long time, or a book that is considered a classic – either in the traditional sense, or within the romance genre.
5. Sequels, Sequels - Recommend the next book in a series that your pickee is reading, or a book by one of their favorite authors.
6. On the Edge of Your Seat… Suggest a book that is suspenseful, intense, or scary.
Buddy Reads:
Please be sure at least one of your picks is on your pickee’s TBR.
7. Summer Hit - Choose a book that is light and funny or sweet – a little bit of fluff to make you and your pickee smile!
8. New Release - Pick a recently released book, preferably one that has been eagerly awaited.
Please Note: Buddy Read selections are not optional! If you are unable to participate, you still need to make the picks. Just let your pickee know that you will not be able to read with them in advance.

2012 July PIFM - Statistics!The Opening Credits:
We have 74 participants
1,108 books were recommended (722 unique titles), written by 467 different authors.
The most recommended authors and books were were E.L. James with a total of 31 recommendations, including 25 for
Fifty Shades of Grey, followed closely by Jeaniene Frost with a total of 29 recommendations, including 20 for Once Burned.
Intermission:
We’ve reached the halfway point, and it’s time for a little update!
So far, just over 60% of the participants have read at least one pick.
Including buddy reads, 25 people have read more than one pick, and 2 overachievers have already read 5 or more books!
We’ve read 84 books, 72 unique titles, by 67 different authors.
8 books have been read multiple times, with Once Burned having been read the most (5 times so far).
The Closing Credits:
I want to play!! I love them all except horror - depends on my mood, but I guess I will say Action/Adventure!

I'm in with comedy.As a note, I'm leaving for vacation in the morning and will not be back until the 1st. I'm not sure what kind of connection I will have in Mexico so I may be MIA until I get back.
I'd say Drama/Suspense although I enjoy the rest even horror if it's done well (not the recent rash of porn horror we've gotten in the last 5 years or so.)
I watch all kinds of movies, but Horror has a special place in my heart. I love the old black and white classics, some slightly cheesy or even schlocky, but still wonderful. Around Halloween, I'm glued to TCM's marathon of horror and sci-fi.

The Pick-It-For-Me Challenge (PIFM) is a reading challenge where each participant gives and receives book recommendations based on a given a set of rules. The assignment method and book selection rules change each month so it’s always new and always different.
After signups are closed, I'll put your names and any extra info I’ve required into the super secret PIFM randomizer and select someone for you to choose for. This will get posted along with the rules for the month.
While you're doing your picks, someone else is doing picks for you. Once you receive them, you pick a book off the list and get reading. To complete the challenge, you only have to read 1 (one) book but many of us end up reading more because we just can't resist a list of books to read.
In order to participate you need to either HAVE YOUR PROFILE SET TO PUBLIC (preferable), or make the person who will be giving you recommendations your friend. On top of that, I strongly recommend keeping your bookshelves updated; otherwise you might end up with a recommendation that you have already read.

Sign up will remain open through to June 28th (2 pm PDT).
You’ll have until July 2nd (2 pm PDT) to make your recommendations.
You then have till the end of the month to read your pick and give some feedback.
