279142 Okay-I'm finally getting a chance to update here. Now if I can just remember what I've read!

#73Hope in a Jar (I'll add the author later)

#74New Moon by Stephanie Meyer

#75From Dead to Worse by Charlaine Harris

My goal was to read 3 books during my maternity leave and I've read 4 so I'm happy. I have one more week to go so maybe I'll finish something else.

279142 #72 Something Blue by Emily Giffin

First book I've finished post baby. Fun and easy to read even in my sleep deprived state!

message 84: by Joanie (new)

279142 Thanks Dini! I have a feeling this might be as far as I get for some time but I'm pretty happy with my number overall!

message 83: by Dini (new)

245923 Congrats on the new baby, and passing 70 books :)

279142 #71 Grave Surprise by Charlaine Harris

Book #2 in the Harper Connelly series-definitley an enjoyable read. I finished this a few weeks ago (right before having my baby) but haven't been able to update.

279142 #69 All Together Dead by Charlaine Harris

Book 7 in the Sookie Stackhouse series-I think I need a little break from these. They're still good but losing some of their luster.

#70 On Becoming Babywise by Gary Ezzo

Some stuff was helpful, other stuff was just ridiculous!

message 80: by Joanie (new)

279142 #67 Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys

Interesting but it bummed me out.

#68 Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith

Funny and bizarre.

message 79: by Joanie (new)

279142 #66 The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larson

I wound up really liking this-definitely couldn't wait to see how it ended.

message 78: by Joanie (last edited Aug 26, 2009 06:06AM) (new)

279142 #65 Grave Sight by Charlaine Harris

#1 in the series-not quite as good as the Sookie books but still entertaining.

message 77: by Joanie (new)

279142 #64 Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen

Great story, kind of reminded me of Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman

message 76: by Joanie (new)

279142 #63 1001 Books for Every Mood by Hallie Ephron

Fun book to flip through

message 75: by Joanie (new)

279142 #61 Choke by Chuck Palahniuk

Twisted but funny.

#62 Dead Babies by Martin Amis

Also twisted but not quite as funny or interesting in my opinion.

message 74: by Joanie (new)

279142 #60 The Reader by Bernhard Shlinck

Still deciding how I feel about this one.

message 73: by Joanie (new)

279142 #59 Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfield

I wish I liked this one more-maybe if I'd read it as a kid.

message 72: by Joanie (new)

279142 #58 Redbird Christmas by Fannie Flagg

Sweet, feel good story.

message 71: by Joanie (new)

279142 #57 Smashed Squashed Splattered Chewed Chunked and Spewed by Lance Carbuncle

Really funny but so twisted!

message 70: by Joanie (new)

279142 Thanks Lisa!

message 69: by Joanie (new)

279142 #56 The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion

Well written but really sad.

message 68: by Lisa (new)

1989238 Nah, you're not the last. That would be me. It's still sitting on my shelf.

Congrats on reaching the half-century mark and on your future newborn! :)

message 67: by Joanie (last edited Jul 27, 2009 01:52PM) (new)

279142 I had a busy week last week and a busy weekend so not much to add here. Did just finish

#55 Marley and Me by John Grogan

I feel like the last person on earth to have read this-definitely sweet story.

message 66: by Joanie (new)

279142 Thanks Cherylann!

message 65: by Cherylann (new)

2426596 WOW! Congratulations - on finishing your 50 and the upcoming birth! I'm sure with a little guy and a newborn there will be little time for reading. Being a working mom, I'm amazed that you were able to get your 50 in! Terrific accomplishment!

message 64: by Joanie (new)

279142 Thanks Cherylann but I'm not so sure! I'm having my second baby in September and don't know how much reading I'll be able to do for those first few months. With my son I think I made it through one book on my maternity leave and it was tiny! Things could be totally different this time around-basically I'm preparing for the worst and hoping for the best! That's why I at least wanted to get to 50 before the baby and then anything over that is gravy.

message 63: by Cherylann (new)

2426596 YEA! Congratulations on reaching 50. You'll definitely surpass your total from 2008.

message 62: by Joanie (new)

279142 #53 Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

Good but sad

#54 Chasing Harry Winston by Lauren Weisberger

Not great even for a summer read.

message 61: by Joanie (new)

279142 Thanks for the TIcker Mary Todd and thanks Dini! Taking out too many library books at once and being sick definitely helped me rack up the numbers lately!

message 60: by Dini (new)

245923 Yay Joanie!

message 59: by Mary Todd (new)

Sorry I'm late!

message 58: by Joanie (new)

279142 Thanks!

message 57: by Aprile (new)

1900151 Woo hoo!

message 56: by Joanie (new)

279142 I just realized it's time to move to the finish line-whohoo!

message 55: by Joanie (new)

279142 #52 Sold by Patricia McCormick

I read this in a few hours-totally engrossing read about a young girl who is sold to a brothel in India.

message 54: by Joanie (last edited Jul 14, 2009 12:35PM) (new)

279142 I've been sick but reading while resting so my 50 has come and gone with little fanfare. Here's the rundown.

#49 Peaches by Jodi Lynn Anderson

Cute, summer read. A lot like Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

#50 The Protest Singer:An Intimate Portrait of Pete Seeger by Alec Wilkinson (I think)

Great little bio of Pete Seeger-not exhaustive by any means but hits all the high points.

#51 The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

Great story, fun read.

message 53: by Mary Todd (new)

1230903 ...48...

message 52: by Mary Todd (new)

1230903 awesome!

message 51: by Joanie (new)

279142 #48 Lucia Lucia by Adriana Trigiani

Liked this one a lot.

message 50: by Joanie (new)

279142 I know-it's crazy! I've been trying to plough through a huge pile of library books and it's definitely helped to increase my total.

message 49: by Mary Todd (new)

1230903 count down to 50!

45...46...47...

message 48: by Joanie (new)

279142 #45 The River Between by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o

I liked this but didn't love it. Story about two tribes of people in Africa-one trying to hold on to the old customs and traditions and one who had adopted Christianity.

#46 The Freddie Stories by Lynda Barry-Graphic novel that was pretty disturbing. Definitely creative but sad.

# 47 The Potty Training Answer Book by Karen Deerwester-I forgot about this one, I should have added it earlier. Not bad but how exciting can a potty book be?

message 47: by Joanie (last edited Jul 05, 2009 05:18AM) (new)

279142 #44 The Postman Always Rings Twice by James Cain

Fast paced, tense read.

message 46: by Joanie (new)

279142 #43 Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator by Roald Dahl

Not nearly as good as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I found this one pretty annoying.

message 45: by Joanie (new)

279142 #42 Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

This was my first time ever reading this-I'm really glad I finally got around to reading this one.

message 44: by Joanie (new)

279142 #41 Definitley Dead by Charlaine Harris.

Book #6 in the Sookie Stackhouse series. This book was kind of disjointed as part of the back story was told in a separate book-weird. Still fun but not the greatest.

message 43: by Joanie (last edited Jun 21, 2009 10:21AM) (new)

279142 #40 What It Is by Lynda Barry

Interesting combination of memoir and instructional book on writing.

message 42: by Joanie (new)

279142 Lol..I guess the beach one. I wish they had put that in the movie-a nude beach scene with Brad Pitt would have been awesome!

message 41: by Susanna (new)

2135995 #39 Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk

I saw the movie years ago but still totally enjoyed the book.

Which first meeting did you enjoy more, the one in the airplane or the one on the beach? ;)

message 40: by Joanie (new)

279142 #39 Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk

I saw the movie years ago but still totally enjoyed the book.

message 39: by Joanie (new)

279142 #38 The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler

I liked this but actually liked the movie better.

message 38: by Joanie (new)

279142 #37 One Fifth Avenue by Candace Bushnell

This was bad-not worth it.

message 37: by Joanie (new)

279142 #36 Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry

This is a companion book to The Giver but paints a much darker picture of the society than the one presented in The Giver.
