I'm excited to see what others think of this book. I liked it, thought I liked her second novel Huntress even more. I hope Lo writes many many more books, as I will read them all!Hurry up and read the book. It's a fast read.
Oh I've heard good things about this!!! I do a photo series inspired by young adult books, anyone who's read it think it would be a good addition to the series?

I think you'll definitely be inspired. It has a fairy tale element that's described in a way that's both beautiful, but also a little eerie.
I can't wait to hear what you think of the book & maybe see the photos you take! Do you have a link for your series for other books youve done?

Yeah! All the photos with details on the inspiration and how I did them are on my blog here: http://www.therealfauxtographer.com/ or you can just view them on flickr here.
I'd never quite read sexual tension in a YA Book like that. When I got to this one quote about how the air felt like a woman stretching open her limbs I was like "YEAH SHE DID."

Btw Margot, I'm super excited for your Ash photo when it's done. :)
So here's my favorite thing about the world Lo has created: there's no discussion at all about lesbianism, it's considered normal. The drama isn't that she's in love with a woman; it's that she's promised to someone else. I love that!
Tanya wrote: "I kind of want to hear what people's thoughts on Sidhean are."I understand that Sidhean was cursed to fall in love with a human girl, but that deal that Ash struck with him - his for an entire night (which is who knows how long in Faerie) - made me feel skeeved out. Problematic consent! She doesn't remember what happened!
Am I looking into this too much?

Several of us on Geekquality staff recently read Malinda Lo's Ash, a Cinderalla story retold. We thought this would make for an easy first book for us to get started on a monthly book club. So please, join us in reading this book and the discussion going forward. You are welcome to post thoughts here, as you read the book, and we'll have a final discussion at the end of the 1 month (June 11). If you are posting while you're reading, please be sure to post spoiler warnings :)
The plot, via the GoodReads listing:
In the wake of her father's death, Ash is left at the mercy of her cruel stepmother. Consumed with grief, her only joy comes by the light of the dying hearth fire, rereading the fairy tales her mother once told her. In her dreams, someday the fairies will steal her away, as they are said to do. When she meets the dark and dangerous fairy Sidhean, she believes that her wish may be granted.
The day that Ash meets Kaisa, the King's Huntress, her heart begins to change. Instead of chasing fairies, Ash learns to hunt with Kaisa. Though their friendship is as delicate as a new bloom, it reawakens Ash's capacity for love-and her desire to live. But Sidhean has already claimed Ash for his own, and she must make a choice between fairy tale dreams and true love.
Entrancing, empowering, and romantic, Ash is about the connection between life and love, and solitude and death, where transformation can come from even the deepest grief.
