62. Danger in Disguise by Carolyn Keene
Hopefully I'll get some "real" reading done once my exams are over!
One interesting non-fiction book:
63. A Wonderful Little Girl The True Story of Sarah Jacob, the Welsh Fasting Girl by Sian Busby
Attempted to read two adult library books this weekend but found them both quite uninspiring, so back to Nancy Drew!
64. The Treasure in the Royal Tower by Carolyn Keene
Finally finished a novel which was written for adults! I've given up on A Mercy by Toni Morrison, too dreary and uninteresting, and am putting The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards on hold for a while as it is very over-wordy.
65. Bumps by Zoe Barnes
Rachel, I too could not finish Morrison's "A Mercy." I had such a hard time following the story. "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" is not a favorite either although I did finish it! Keep trying though - there are some really good books out there for you!
I've asked around on other book websites and it looks like few people have enjoyed A Mercy, although it has a lot of good reviews on here!
Just finished a wonderful novel, which I highly recommend to anyone looking for "something different" to read.
66. The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
I read two more kids books this month and one "real" novel:
68. Mary Anne Saves The Day by Ann M. Martin
69. Riddle of the Ruby Gazelle by Carolyn Keene
70. Head Over Heels by Jill Mansell
As school is over I've managed three books already this month!
71. Rainbow Valley by L. M. Montgomery
72. The Diplomat's Wife by Pam Jenoff
73. A Slipping-Down Life by Anne Tyler
I've forgotten to update this list while in Germany. Here goes!74. Ten Out of Ten by Meg Cabot
75. The Last Concubine by Lesley Downer
76. Rasputin's Daughter by Robert Alexander
77. Frida Chosen to Die, Destined to Live by Frida Gashumba
78. Goodnight, Beautiful by Dorothy Koomson
79. The Other Queen by Philippa Gregory
And in July:
80. Rilla of Ingleside (Anne of Green Gables No. 8) by L. M. Montgomery
81. Women of the Silk by Gail Tsukiyama
82. The Language of Threads A Novel by Gail Tsukiyama
83. Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult (reread, borrowed from Johanna)84. The Firm by John Grisham (found it on Johanna's bookcase and surprisingly enjoyed it)
One more book read in July!
85. The Railway Children by E. Nesbit
Pleasantly surprised at this discovery on the shelves at the Scheuermann's house. Now back to reading new books again - after all, I have at least 50 books on my TBR pile!
i just came across your list of books and read your review of the kommandant's girl. i just happened to finish reading that book last night and find that i completely agree with your review of the book.
however, a few months ago i read the diplomat's wife- also by jenoff- and did not realize it was the second in the series as it picks up marta's story. it can totally stand on its own.
in contrast to the kommandant's girl, which took me a while to get in to, the diplomat's wife immediately caught my attention and held it the whole way through. i enjoyed the diplomat's wife more than the kommandant's girl.
i didn't notice the diplomat's wife on your list- if you have time, you should check it out.
Hi Stephanie,
I also agree that The Diplomant's Wife can stand on its own but I didn't enjoy it quite as much as Kommandant's Girl. I felt that some of the events (particularly the dramatic ending) were a little bit over the top! However, it was still an enjoyable and face-paced book. I think what really interested me about Kommandant's Girl was the subject matter, as - to my knowledge - there are few accessible novels about the Jewish resistance.
So, yes, I did read The Diplomat's Wife back in June of this year. I noticed that she has a new book out, set in England - I can't remember the title now. Have you read it?
Three more books for August:
89. The Sunflower Forest by Torey Hayden
A wonderful book, no idea why it's been out of print for so long!
90. Double Cross by Malorie Blackman
91. Hidden Talents by Erica James
92. The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid
Interesting book, but I would probably never have read it if I hadn't received it as a freebie from the University of St. Andrews. Still not sure if I'll join in the book group discussion during Freshers week!
95. Every Boy's Got One by Meg Cabot
Not as good as the other two 'Boy' novels but was a quick and easy read.
96. Being Nikki by Meg Cabot
Another Meg Cabot as I finally got a hold of this book from the library! Had to read it in a bit of a rush because I'm moving out on Saturday and won't be home in time to return it to the library and I hate it when other people return books late :P
Just started Uni. and have had hardly any time to do any real read, although I have reread these:
97. Logan Likes Mary Anne! by Ann M. Martin
98. Boy-Crazy Stacey by Ann M. Martin
Another BSC book!
99. Kristy's Mystery Admirer by Ann M. Martin
Have about 60 pages left of Wuthering Heights so hopefully that will be book #100!
Whoop! Finally finished Wuthering Heights, and one more kids book, so now I'm over the 100 line!
100. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
101. Dawn and the Older Boy by Ann M. Martin
Currently reading Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella and really enjoying it - perfect book for curling up with after my first day of lectures!
Thanks! Really enjoyed Remember Me? and thought it was one of her best novels so far!
102. Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella
October's reading is a bit slow as I've had so much homework for Uni, but I have managed two quick reads.
103. Fooling Around by Francine Pascal
104. Spy Girl by Francine Pascal
Haven't got much reading done this month due to Uni. work :( But have read:
107. The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
108. Beezus and Ramona by Beverly Cleary
Read two great, but very different, books this weekend:
111. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
112. School of Fortune by Amanda Brown
