The Knife of Never Letting Go
The Ask and the Answer
Monsters of Men
- by Patrick Ness

These books have been optioned as movies with Charlie Kaufman set to direct, and some are already calling them “the next Hunger Games,” but you get to make them into movies first. Make a video trailer for one of the books or the entire series, post it to YouTube, and share the link here. Five winners will be picked from the entries to win a prize.

Rules
• You must be 13-18 years old.
• Videos can be submitted Monday, May 21 through Sunday, June 24.
• Videos can be submitted by uploading them to YouTube, tagging them "jocolibraryteens," and sharing the URL on the discussion board.
• Videos must be no longer than four minutes (not counting time for titles and credits).
• Each person who submits an entry will be eligible to win the prize for this challenge, a copy of The Marbury Lens by Andrew Smith.

By entering this contest, you agree to:
• Use only original materials--excluding copyrighted songs, images, and other licensed media. Visit Creative Commons for media you can use legally and ethically in your films.
• Use your common sense--don’t break the law! We cannot air films that depict minors partaking in illegal activities.
• Keep it "PG-rated" so we can find the widest possible audience for your film.

Copyright Compliance

If you have picked out the perfect piece of music and the perfect images to use in your book trailer, but you don’t have the permission to use them, you’re out of luck. You must ensure that your book trailer complies with copyright laws. Many artists do not wish to have their works used without express permission and financial compensation.

However, adhering to copyright laws doesn’t mean that every image, sound, and video clip you use in your book trailer must be originally created by you. There are different levels of copyright permissions which allow others to use copyrighted materials if they are attributed properly. You can learn more about these permissions at Creative Commons.

There are many tools available for your use, but we have provided links to a few websites with copyright compliant audio clips, video clips, and images to help get you started.

Sorry about the rushed quality - I didn't realize there was a trailer contest until today!
