hee hee. That's what I did tonight. But I *didn't* get out the giant beer stein for my glass of wine :D
Robbie -why don't you just have 1 large glass? HA HA! My motto is "set your goals low and you'll always be an achiever!" Just kidding! :)
LOL Deb, I can totally picture your interaction with Dave about the bacon. Plus, he's right. From a nutrition classification perspective, bacon's a fat, not a meat ;)
Congratulations, Jaime Lynn, on being the first RGBC member to have >0% of people like you!
Well, I told my husband that I made a half-a$&ed resolution to lose weight, and I made a real resolution to drink no more than one alcoholic beverage a day. I don't drink everyday, but when I have a glass of wine, I always have two. So, a couple of glasses of wine a week should result in *some* weight loss, right?
For those of you trying to go more local and/or organic with foods this year, might I suggestThe Omnivore's Dilemma
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life
(my husband read them both and liked them a lot; I got most of the tidbits from him so haven't read them fully yet)
also, I just came across another book that I haven't read yet but looks promising
Plenty: One Man, One Woman, and a Raucous Year of Eating Locally
an excerpt from the latter that I found quite interesting, surprising and encouraging for those of us trying to do more from scratch:
"A study in the UK showed that the amount of time people now spend driving to the supermarket, looking for parking, and wandering the lengthy aisles in search of a frozen pizza or pre-mixed salad is nearly equal to that spent preparing food from scratch 20 years ago."
Deborah -- I do believe you might find a book in (as in write one about not find one lying around) that camp from the bits you've mentioned around these parts. Sounds lovely and idyllic indeed.
This 43 Things Quiz was fun......I am a Self-Knowing, Self-Improving Builder.....and only 1% of the 41776 people who took the quiz are like me. Ha
Dottie wrote: "If going green, organic, local grown meant giving up bacon entirely -- I'd not even try. I know. Yes, I really know. But I love bacon. I could have it daily and never tire but I'm good and have..."Dottie - I was actually glad to have the bacon yesterday. We had a turkey for Christmas, and since we are only two, the leftovers were daunting. I finished it off yesterday by making turkey chili and used bacon grease to brown the veggies and turkey. I haven't been able to garden the last couple of years due to health problems, so I'm looking forward to this year. And if we're eating home grown veggies it won't hurt to indulge in some bacon. Especially since, when we go to camp in the spring, we get farm fresh eggs from "happy" chickens who have a nice hen house, a little fenced yard to scratch in, and a border collie to guard them.
Thanks for the tip, signed up for 43 things too fun website :-)
Did the quiz and I'm a Traveling Lifelong Learning Money Manager. I wonder how come I didn't get the 'Romantic' since I'm the romantic daydreamer, but the others are true also.
If going green, organic, local grown meant giving up bacon entirely -- I'd not even try. I know. Yes, I really know. But I love bacon. I could have it daily and never tire but I'm good and have it very infrequently -- and I'm not gonna give it up -- so there. I take my bolld pressure pill daily -- and once in a while I have some bacon -- I know, it's pathetic.
Sorry -- but your post brought that out, Deborah -- hee-hee.
I wonder if 43 things website noticed a spike today? So ... I'm a "tree hugging spiritual extrovert." Tree hugging apparently because I recycle and use cloth shopping bag, spiritual because I've gone on a spiritual retreat. I don't know if I'm an extrovert because I've thrown a party or started a food fight. So far so good on the buying fresh, maybe not so much on the local, since winter in PA is not conducive to fresh produce. And my husband did buy bacon. I said, "That's processed meat." He said, "No. It's bacon." But he did quit smoking in 2008, so I guess I can cut him some slack on the pork products.
Wow! Apparently, I'm a Self-Knowing Tree Hugging Self-Improver
I suppose we must buy the book to figure out what this supposedly says about us?!?
And, I don't really do new year's resolutions but I try to make little changes/improvements/new-interests in my life throughout the year. (Hum is that the "Self-Improver" part!?)
Me too Deborah....I started shopping at Whole Foods Market last week and my husband & I are going green in 2009! We are going to start recycling and eating organic & locally grown foods.
According to 43 Things, I'm a healthy organized tree hugger. Again, 0% of 38607 people are like me. I don't think I'm healthy, organized, or a tree hugger!
apparently I'm an organized reinventing self-knower with 0% of people like me... I don't know, I was getting confused which may sound silly, but I didn't like that it asked what you've done but was written like things you want to do, did anyone else feel that way?
plus I'm super unorganized in the conventional sense (in my own way, I'm organized).
Awesome! Thanks for doing the math for me. I was thinking about how many permutations that could have, but I didn't take the time to figure it out. :-)
Probably not, because there are 6.1^52 possibilities to check the 43 boxes (if I did the maths correctly.. only had one semester of statistics lol).
Apparently, I am a Spiritual Money Managing Self-Knower! Though very similar to Beth, I am unique as well - 0% of the 26966 people who have taken this quiz are like me!
I am an Extroverted Creative Self-Improver and 0% of 24889 people are like me.My goals are to lose weight, de-clutter, take more pictures and read and write more.
I try not to get too wrapped up in the "resolution" part of the New Year. I feel that it leads to disappointment in oneself and I've seen people fall into deep depressions because they didn't accomplish what they wanted to - which I attribute to the stress it places on someone to succeed. I like the idea of making goals for oneself, but feel it can be done at any point, and not to wait for the New Year in order to do it.With that said, hah, I took the quiz also and I am a Self-Knowing Lifelong Learning Self-Improver. That was fun!
I am a Creative Self-Knowing Money Manager. Apparently, I am also unique, as 0% of the 21188 people who took the quiz are like me.
I am a Creative Traveling Extrovert and 0% of the 20010 people who have taken this quiz are like me. I wonder if it always says 0%? Actually, it should say that in pretty many cases because there are way too many possibilities to combine the 43 things. The quiz is very much fun : )
I'm a Lifelong Learning Self-Improving Extrovert. Haha! Sad it didn't say traveling, though. :) I love quizzes like that. I wish it'd had a second section about what you LIKE to do... seems to me it'd be more complete. The 0% of the 19607 people thing is kind of great because you know what? It's true. We none of us are like anyone else in the world. And I love that! Hooray!
Okay, I'm cracking up at all the "be more organized" ones. Here's why: I'm insanely organized. At Christmas I was up literally all night baking and cooking the last of our gifts (to give). At seven in the morning I finally had to sleep for a about 1.5 hours, then I had 45 of the most interrupted minutes in history to pack for a week of travel. It was my most disorganized packing ever. It was stressful and I forgot stuff, but at the same time while I was there it was sort of... relaxing. It made me consider being LESS organized in the future. Hahahaha! I'm still considering my resolutions... or, well, more like goals. I'll get back to you on that. Plus I'll have to check out that 43 thing because I'm completely lost on what you all are talking about.
Wouldn't it be neat if everyone in RGBC had 0% of...blah, blah, blah...like them? I wonder how many combinations are possible?
Robbie -- Glad to meet you says the Traveling Self-Knowing Romantic (that would be me) who has 0% of the 18000 of those who had taken the test who are that category. Funny.
Heather, I took the quiz on 43 things, and it said I was a Romantic Spiritual Extrovert, and that 0% of 18276 people who have taken the quiz are like me! Ha.
i'm doing 43things(.com), but my main goal this year is to move to a different city. I also want to read 30 books this year - didn't quite make it last year.Happy New Year everyone!
I made a list of fifty things or so, and I shall forget them all around Feburary, but my goal is mainly becoming more organised and more active. I realise now that this past year was spent mostly sleeping or wanting to sleep sitting by the telly, so my resolutions revolve around sleeping nine hours a day and therefore having more time to review school subjects, read and hopefully exercise - it would be lovely to run without having to catch my breath. And Robbie, if losing weight is what you want, go to a nutricionist, and try some... hm.. I think they're called florals. Generally people tend yo eat because they are nervous or fidgety, florals can ease that up and make you feel better and still eat three meals a day. I used them some years ago and now I'm calm on my own, but it was what I needed at the time, give it a try.Happy new year :D
Kittiya, congrats on working on getting into Nursing school. I'm in nursing school now. I have to say, it's one of the hardest things I've done. But it's also one of the most rewarding (and I"m not even out of school yet). So, good luck! It's big exciting times for you! :)As for New Year's resolutions, I always make a list of books I want to read every year, and I consider that part of my resolutions. I didn't finish last year (two books short - Anna Karinena and Vanity Fair) but I considered it a very good effort and put them on my list this year. :) Also, being in school, I have the goal to keep things organized and keep on top of my school work. Getting through school is most important. :)
Happy New Year everybody!
Robbie, a couple of years ago I changed my nutrition in a very simple, but very effective way: I still eat normally, I only limit myself to breakfast and one other meal. That's actually a really great way of loosing weight because you normally aren't hungry, you can still eat everything, but it is very effective. I went from a size 12 to a size 8 in 2 years.
Oh, I can think of so many resolutions I should make, but I don't feel the sense of motivation that I should. I need to lose weight. I should set a behavior regimen that will help, yet still be relatively easy to stick to. Argh...I'm not sure I'm ready.
I'll be trying to be more efficient with my school work. I've really got so much of it that I actually should not be hanging around goodreads so much.. Maybe I should try a "Internet for fun only during the weekends"-rule or something.I might have more time for reading, then.
My daughter will be starting kindergarden after the summer. So I plan on try to get things organized around our home. Find out the info & start setting things up for me to go to Nursing school. Well technically lol I can't start that in till she's in 1st grade, But I'm so excited words cannot express!!!oh and lose some weight.
I want to get more organized and use my time better. I'm hoping that if I am more organized I will be able to find more time for reading.
My husband and I decided to start cutting processed foods out of our diet and focus on eating fresh and locally grown foods as much as possible.
