Yup! Looking forward to it. And this is coming from a longtime book club resister, general resister of anyone choosing my reading material for me. But I couldn't resist The Readers!!!
I am notorious for joining read-alongs, actually reading the book and then, failing to participate in the discussions. Nevertheless, I plan to play along this time and make at least one comment per book, even if it's to say "I didn't read the book but it sounds like another book that I liked/didn't like." Or, "Instead of reading an insightful and interesting novel, I am tearing my way through zombie comic books and watching TV." Or I will fill your threads with ceaseless comments to the point you will cut me off like a bartender cutting off a drunk. Or maybe, just maybe, I will post when I really have something to say and hope for interesting an intelligent feedback. The possibilities are endless :-)

I'm in Pompano Beach. :)

We might need to have book club meetings over a coffee or a cocktail!

Definitely! We can meet in the middle.
Wow this is great to see so many of you are reading the books already! I am just starting The Last Werewolf... Oops. Also lovely to see some of you are meeting up through the Readers goodreads page. I wish me and Gavin could join you!
Anytime you and Gavin feel the need to visit the land of sun, strip malls, and silicone - you are more than welcome here!I just finished Packing for Mars as an audiobook - trying to get a bit ahead since I'm also reading for the BOTNS Oxford Booktopia. But now I'm dying to discuss it right away and no one else I know has read it. Sigh. I guess I'll just have to put those comments on hold until June!
i've read it Dawn! send me a message or hide your spoilers. i loved the book. her other books are just as interesting.
Dawn wrote: "I just finished Packing for Mars as an audiobook - trying to get a bit ahea..."I FEEL as if I've read it. My husband read it and could talk of nothing else for a week. I loved every anecdote and look forward to experiencing it again, via the author this time. Mine is coming from the library soon.
Sorry my OCD is coming out but I really wanted to fix the list;28th May – The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan
4th June – Half Blood Blues by Esi Edugyan
11th June – Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void by Mary Roach
18th June – Bleakly Hall by Elaine di Rollo
25th June – Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
2nd July – Now You See Me by S.J. Bolton
9th July – Redemption in Indigo by Karen Lord
16th July – Pure by Andrew Miller
i am currently reading Redemption in Indigo with about forty pages left. it's taken me much longer than i thought since it's a thin book, but i've enjoyed it. a lot of magical realism going on in this one. tricksters and shape-shifters.

Thanks for doing that Michael hahahaha.
Hello all, some interesting book choices, and I've got 'The Last Werewolf' on my shelf and ready to go. Looking forward to it...

I've done a great job of gathering all the books (if I do say so myself). Now to find the time to READ them! Starting
today. Even if it's just the first paragraph.
Jana, I know how you feel! Though I'm about to start my third of the selection just getting to end of The Last Werewolf first then it's Mary Roach!
Hoorah. It's so lovely seeing how many of you are joining in! Me and Gav are thrilled. Oh and guess what... We are actually meeting in the flesh the week after this, like really!
that is so cool simon! i can't wait to hear how that goes. it seems something amazing should happen when you two meet in person.i am waiting for my library to actually get bleakley hall. if they don't, i'm ordering it because it sounds interesting.
i have
literarlly on my nightstand right now. and each time i go to the library i find
so i can get it the next time.
Lovely to see your libraries are all being so good! I am seeing Gavin next Thursday but we WON'T be recording as we just wanna chill and have dinner. Plus our OH's will be there lol!
I can totally understand, recording your meeting would make it so stressed. Better to just relax and have fun. Enjoy! :)
i have started Now You See Me and i love it so far. this is not typically the type of book i'm drawn to, so thanks for the recommendation.i like the references to jack the ripper too. i think i'm going to get some good lessons there. now i need to read something non-fiction about jack.
Argh I'm so behind, not even listen to the last 2 podcasts, been a weird couple of weeks. Will try and read Half Blood lues this weekend but I'm not sure I'll be keeping up a book a week schedule on top of all my other reading commitments. Still looking forward to hearing the non-spoilery 2 thirds of each podcast though.

By the time the first date rolled around, it seemed that The Readers had already opened up the threads for the next two titles! I think I'll just hit the books in order, but not necessarily on schedule :-/
Yep, I'm also behind and I only wanted to read a few of them. Seems I'll be listening to the non spoiler bits and reading them when I get chance, now.
I, too, am way behind. Skipped The Last Werewolf as it really didn't do anything for me after a while. I'm reading Half Blood Blues, but have to start a book for one of my book groups. May have to pick and choose...and will save the podcasts for later in the summer.
The beauty of podcasts is that you can be on your own schedule!I had already read (and LOVED) The Last Werewolf so I had a jump start. FYI: Bleakly Hall goes very fast. I'm a slow reader and I finished it in a weekend.
Bleakly Hall is up next for me. Glad to hear it's a fast read, that sounds very promising! So far, these picks have been great reads. :)
