Jenn's 100+ Books in 2009 - Awww Yeaaahhh
This is so sad. Day 16 and only on book 2.
2. Night Train to Memphis A Vicky Bliss Mystery by Elizabeth Peters. Best in the series so far.
You have the entire year!
Try not to look at Trista's book list because her list just makes us all seem low on reading books!
Jenn "Awww Yeaaahhh" wrote: "I'm throwing myself a party."
Yeah, by flying halfway round the world. Showoff.
Heh heh heh.Sans, pity party at your place tonight?
I'm bringing pizza. And girl scout cookies. And nachos. And chicken alfredo. And ice cream.
And we've got to incorporate some caramel in there...
As long as the caramel is going on the ice cream and not the pizza or nachos, I'm happy.
Can we make sure the girl scout cookies are the lemon ones? Sooooo gooooooood. And don't worry, I've got the lattes.
uhhh latttteeeesssss did i tell you what happened to me?So I've known for two weeks that I had to work a triple shift this past sunday. ALL WEEK I was looking forward to getting a latte from dunkin donuts before I started.
So.
Five am.
Drive up to the window.
"I'd like a large caramel latte plz"
"I'm sorry, our latte machine's not up yet."
BAHHHHHH.
Oh I'll get you the lemon ones and I call tagalongs. You do know that the lemon ones, tagalongs, and thin mints are the ones getting less cookies in the boxes this year, right?
Greedy little whores.Did I just type that? Sorry, stayed home sick today. Looks like the filter between my brain and my fingers/mouth isn't working.
4. On The Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta.Hello lovely ladies! I am celebrating my 4th book this year at the Airport in Saigon. Our flight to Siem Reap is delayed and there is no internet, so I'm typing on my about to die Blackberry. Btw, thanks for bringing the GS cookies, I LOVE the thin mints, lemon cookies and tagalongs!!
Check you guys later on the flipside!
5. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.I would give this book about a 3.5. Will post further thoughts in the discussion thread.
6. Rumors A Luxe Novel by Anna Godbersen.Like this book much better than The Luxe. I have a better understanding of the characters and love Diana and Henry. I shed a few tears at the end!
Re: message 12... do you think anyone would accept it if you called into work and said "I have to stay home today, my brain-to-mouth filter is broken" ??
Maybe it would depend on the industry. :)
I think Envy shall be my first book after I finish my library books... I almost spoiled myself badly because I get the group discussions here in digest form in my e-mail. Ack.
Jenn "Awww Yeaaahhh" wrote: "Great book."Yay!! It's a bit of work to get through. I'm glad you liked it!
Phew! Took me a month, but I LOVED the last third of the book. That's when Darcy starts to soften up a bit. :)
Jenn "Awww Yeaaahhh" wrote: "9. Jessica Z. by Shawn Klomparens.Pretty good, would give 3.5 stars."
Swap on Sunday? Did you want to borrow I Heart You or Revenge or both?
10. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.Very sad. But interesting insider POVs of Afghanistan.
11. The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner.Very good, liked the little twists and turns. Can't wait to start the sequel.
Jenn "Awww Yeaaahhh" wrote: "11. The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner.Very good, liked the little twist..."
Yep! The twists at the end were the best! I had already warmed to the characters and the story by then, but those twists really MADE the story for me!!
Jenn "Awww Yeaaahhh" wrote: "It's awesome. I cried throughout the first 70 pages. Poor Gen!!"
I know, don't you just love him?
12. The Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner.
Loved it! The political machinations, romantic intrigues, but most of all, of course, Gen...
Jenn "Awww Yeaaahhh" wrote: "13. The King of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner.
Loved it - loved..."
Yay! I'm so glad you liked it! Gen, that world, all the characters...they all grew on me. I had a hard time finding something to follow it. So glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the reco!! I didn't make it to the library this week (or watch Lost *gasp*!), so I couldn't check out, or request, City of Ashes. Hopefully I'll get a chance to go on Monday, or maybe Sun morn. In the meantime, I have lots of choices - should I go with Saving Francesca? I kinda don't want to move on from Gen and his world, but I will do so reluctantly...
Do you have Saving Francesa? It's very good. It was hard for me to leave Gen and his world too, but I think you'll enjoy Francesca. She's a great character. I love her voice and the cast of characters. Plus, you can have "the Will Trombal experience" which was really nice.
I wish we lived close to each other so I could loan you City of Ashes. :)
As for Lost, are you caught up except for last week's episode?
Ok, Saving Francesca is next. And then our other book of the month pick, lol.
NO! I have not caught up with any Lost. Will try to do so this weekend, maybe Sunday. Then I can comment! Are you all caught up??
I know, so sad we're so far apart!
Yes, I am caught up on Lost, and I'm missing your expert commentary! :) I hope you get caught back up. How many episodes are you behind on? I'm sure it will be fun watching them all back to back.
Be sure to let me know what you think of Saving Francesca and that Will Trombal. :)
Oh, on a side note (won't tell you why!), do you like the movie "The Last of the Mohicans"?
Jenn "Awww Yeaaahhh" wrote: "Including Wed's ep, I'm 4 behind. Crazy!
Yes, I love Last of the Mohicans!"
4 episodes? You're going to have so much fun watching them altogether. I hate when shows pile up on my DVR, but it's fun watching them all at once, especially Lost.
About the Mohicans...good. You'll see why! :)
Jenn - I am so glad you liked it! I have made both my mom and one of my good friends read too and they both loved just as much as we have! I loved her sarcasm
Viola - My next read is On The Jellico Road! I can't wait!
I just looked up Saving Francesca on Amazon and realised that Melina Marchetta is the author of Looking For Alibrandi! I've seen the movie, though haven't read the book. If I'm not mistaken, Looking For Alibrandi is part of the curriculum in high schools here in Australia and a fave with the teens. Melina Marchetta hails from Sydney, Australia.
Lady Jayne wrote: "I just looked up Saving Francesca on Amazon and realised that Melina Marchetta is the author of Looking For Alibrandi! I've seen the movie, though haven't read the book. If I'm not mistaken, Lookin..."
Yes, all the books take place in Australia too. :)
Jenn "Awww Yeaaahhh" wrote: "14. Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta.
Love this author."
Now you know why I mentioned the Mohicans. Didn't you love the part too at the wedding when Will, of the Will Trombal experience, is looking at her cleavage, and Francesca says, "They're called boobs, Ed." I cracked up because I totally knew what movie she was quoting! :)
And as for that bit about the Mohicans, I LOVE that part of the movie and cry/swoon every time I see it. I loved that they included that.
Jenn, it was so good, but you have quite a treat, because I think that Jellicoe Road is even better! Jayne, I just ordered Looking For Alibrandi and can't wait to read it! I'm sad that this is the last book of hers I get to read. :*( You can definitely tell that her books are set in Australia. Makes me want to visit! :)
