1480438 I listened to the audio a few months ago, and it's really good for those of you who are curious. I'll have to read it this time around.

Don't forget to read the Grimm Brothers original The Goose Girl tale!

1671740 I read Princess Academy, which is also by Shannon Hale, and it was really good! Can't wait to read Goose Girl!!

1525355 I just looked and the unabridged audiobook is on Audible! It says performance, but the audio preview is read word for word. I'll probably check out the book from the library too. I know it's strange, but sometimes I like to listen and read at the same time!

I'll have to check out the original too - thanks for pointing it out Jane. Happy Readings!

Yup, that's the one I bought. It's actually really good. Of all the Shannon Hale books that I've the Audible to, I think Goose Girl is the best read. Mira's voice in Princess Academy sounded like an 8 year old (though I still really like it). The voices in Goose Girl is better. I do the exact same thing (read book + audio). Not at the same time, but I like to rotate between them. I have a short attention span when it comes to audios, so I prefer to read, but with all the driving I have to do, audio books is what I have to settle with. I think there was only one time that I've listened to an audio from beginning to end without looking at the book-- and that was Goose Girl.

327471 I'm loving Goose girl so far. I ended today right where the third part was starting. I can read kids books at my job since I work in a 5th and 6th grade library. My coworker noticed I could barely put it down and commented that I must be loving the book so far. I'll have to check out the Grimm tale too, I don't know if its in the one Grimm book I have though but I'll look.

1587017 Finally started the book and I'm absolutely loving it!

1295268 I couldn't find this book, found Austenland, and the 1,000 days one? I have checked the library several times, oh well, I will find it one day, maybe buy it off Amazon.

120413 I loved the book - won't spoil it for anyone - but can't wait to talk about it. I was unsure of Shannon Hale - I wasn't thrilled with Princess Academy - I think this should have won an award before that did... Now I have to find some of the other books relating to Goose Girl. :)

1587017 I read Princess Academy and think that Goose Girl is better. I also think that Princess Academy is better suited to children and Goose Girl to YA.

Shannon Hale has three other 'Books of Bayern':
Enna Burning
River Secrets
Forest Born
'Forest Born' is coming out this year, as well as, all four books in a set.

1783911 I picked up the Goose Girl a couple years ago and loved it! I actually just recommended it to a good friend a few weeks ago and she blew through it in a day. I would love to get a chance to re-read it but my to-read pile is getting so big! As usual. :)
I also just made it my Staff Pick at the bookstore I work at. So it feels so coincidental that it happens to be the book of the month too!

I also read Princess Academy and I felt the Goose Girl was better as well. I also read Book of 1,000 Days and that one was fun. I didn't read too far into the sequels of Goose Girl. I read Enna Burning but then got distracted with other things. Maybe when I re-read Goose Girl I'll pick them back up. :)

Oh also! Shannon Hale and some other Hales (I'm assuming her family) recently came out with a children's graphic novel called Repunzel's Revenge. It's quite fun! :)

950393 Repunzel's Revenge is cute--they're working on a second one. Shannon Hale's husband co-wrote it. The illustrations are done by Nathan Hale (no relation).

The other Bayern books were good, I think I liked River Secrets a little bit better than Enna Burning--but I enjoyed both stories.

327471 I really loved Rapunzel's Revenge! I didn't know they were working on a second one. I love that she decided to explore the world of graphic novels because they're such hot items right now. At the school I work at, one of the older librarians hates them, but now that she is retiring, we've written for a grant to implement more graphic novels into the library. So we've got a nice $750 to start our collection off. Currently, I think we only have 4 graphic novels total in the whole library.

message 15: by Gisela (new)

1587017 By your comments it seems Rapunzel's Revenge is worth reading. Even though I don't usually go for graphic novels, I might give this one a try!

message 16: by Kristen (new)

327471 Go for it! In the book Rapunzel is shown a bit differently and I just really love how it all plays out!

message 17: by Alethea (last edited Feb 02, 2009 12:00AM) (new)

1069643 Kristen, I'll have to order that one! Today I splurged on Shaun Tan's Tales From Outer Suburbia--great for the younger GN readers although I don't think it's exactly what they're expecting. The "cool kids" are probably all reading manga, but I say go with Jeff Smith's Bone The Complete Cartoon Epic in One Volume, Linda Medley's Castle Waiting, Alan Moore's Watchmen and my personal #1 graphic novel of all time, Chris Ware's Jimmy Corrigan The Smartest Kid on Earth!

message 18: by Kristen (new)

327471 I am absolutely in love with Linda Medley's Castle Waiting Volume 1 Lucky Road. I read Shaun Tan's Shaun Tan (Illustrator)'s Arrival, which I read this summer. I like manga too, but good old graphic novels are what I've really been into lately.
