Hello,In this topic I will be looking for group discussion leaders for upcoming books. I will list the books that need leaders as well as some suggested resources for the novice group leaders.
Have suggested resources that I should list here? Post them below. I'll give you credit!
When a book is posted it will be first come, first serve. Afterward I will delete the posts that relate to it to keep this thread clean. Same with the resource suggestions.

I've never been a "discussion" leader - but can read the information and feel comfortable starting things off.
let me know if you need me
I can lead the discussion for the Road if you don't mind having the same person do two in a row, Nick.
OK Brad, I'll put you on for The Road. Robin, when we select a theme book it is your book to lead if you wish.

You are doing a great job, Brad. And, it will be great to have you leading the discussion of "The Road." Thanks for putting in the time and effort.

Anything is fine by me just let me know what and when. I've already read the Road so that was an easy one to volunteer for.
I don't want to steal The Road on you, Robin, if you want to do it. Sorry. I just thought your "let me know if you need me" was kind of a "I'll do it if no one else will." I don't want to step on any toes.
I'm leading the discussion for Watchmen in my local book group in February. So, if you need me, I can pull double duty...:)
Having nominated Watchmen, I will volunteer for it. However, I've never read it before and I won't be starting it until next week so I would gladly relinquish my duty to someone else. Michael, or anyone else, let me know.
I'm a masive fan of Watchmen and, indeed, of most of John Moore's canon (such as V For Vendetta) which locates a more mature version of the superhero genre in a dystopian future that owes much to Orwell. Having re-written 1984 as a noir thriller myself (LAST MAN OUT OF EUROPE) this kind of writing really interests me. I'm also trying to launch a magazine for dark science fiction (dystopias, cyberpunk with a socio-political edge) and was hoping for some feedback from the group. Fans of John Moore but also KC Kornbleuth, William Gibson, Philip K. Dick, George Orwell, Pat Cadigan, Bruce Sterling, Robert Sheckley, etc., should particularly apply.

I've just started reading THE ROAD having previously read NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. It's the well worn story of a journey across post apocayltic America (although it could be anywhere) although the idea of a guy and his son with a cart, rather than a car, adds an interesting spin on the "road movie" scenario. The prose and flashback references are brilliant, particularly the idea of rainfall playing musc and the chilling images of grey ash everywhere. It's partly in the tradition of John Wyndham's DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS together with Terry Nation;s SURVIVORS (both UK), MAD MAX (with important qualification) EARTH ABIDES and so on. I've been working for a while on a novella in which post apocalyptic survivors fo in search of some SANCTUARY COMMUNITY only to find it infested with Christian Fundamentalist crazies and survivalists who think they are the only true inheritors of God's Kingdom and resolved to wipe out all who have "the mark ofg Cain upon them."

In order to shamelessly promote my own science fiction novel, THE LUNDQUIST CHRONICLES (together with LAST MAN OUT OF EUROPE) I'd like to lead discussions on George Orwell's 1984 and the canon of Nigel Kneale - particularly the Quatermass series.

You should be all set now Robin.
Michael is more than willing to lead the disussion for "The Crown Conspiracy" unless you would like someone "more distant" from the work.
No problem - as I said - whatever part you want - is great by us - We're just tickled pink to be selected.
I think it would be better if someone else lead TCC discussion as well. Robin and I know the series. We know the answers, so questions and topics would not be as authentic and we might inadvertently lead readers to conclusions they might not otherwise consider. Besides, I would prefer to hear what all of you have to say, what questions you come up with, and what your opinions are.
I'll take The Crown Conspiracy - my order on Amazon is pending new shipments, but surely it will arrive in time before April.
I would be available to lead a discussion of my book, "Space Maruaders - The Obliteration of Zalamonton". Just let me know! Thanks!
We need a discussion leader for next month's Sci-Fi Parody/Spoof theme winner: To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis.Who's up for it?
Brad wrote: "How about you, Jon? I know you've already read it. C'mon...you'd be great!"I would volunteer but my daughter is wrapping up her final semester of college before moving on to the next level in another state. I have too many commitments. :(
All right, you're on. I'll do To Say Nothing of the Dog. I've already read Tigana and probably wouldn't have time to re-read it to refresh my memory. I'll update the book info with this if you like :)
Is anyone interested in being the discussion leader for July's Fantasy pick, Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman?
It's looking good for The Left Hand of Darkness, Shannon, but we've got one more round of voting starting at midnight. The top four vote getters will face off, so things could still change.
Sorry, I thought it said voting finished today - jumping the gun! I like getting a chance to vote again :)
