1237196 I often search for books where I know the exact title but the search engine returns titles that might have something to do with the key words but is not what I am searching for.

I searched for African Kings, this is the title. The GR search engine returned 165 results, the book I wanted was the 126th. The first book result was the KJV (LDS Edition) - that's a very tenuous connection to the title indeed. Not until the 6th result was there a title with both words: Let the Trumpet Sound: A Life of Martin Luther King, Jr. [Edit: the subtitle said, "African-American]

Is it not possible to have a title search option please?

1376766 Yes, I whole-heartedly agree with this idea. (Although I do get a chuckle out of some of the suggestions that come up!)

126262 An author-field-only search would be great, too. Try searching for books by Christopher Golden, and you'll see what I mean.

Edited to add: And for some reason, that author link I made takes you to Bram Stoker's author page. No idea why, but maybe whatever's causing that is what's causing Dracula to show up as result #1 during a Christopher Golden search.

478604 Brooke and Petra,
Did you try the search using quotation marks? Usually I get much better results that way - in testing, I think I found Christopher Golden on the first line, although the African Kings result is still iffy...

But I do agree that the search function could be improved.

171430 Test: Christopher Golden

Hmm. Works for me.

1237196 I tried it, same data. There were 13 results and the book I wanted, entitled simply African Kings, came up last!

I must admit I didn't know that you could use quotation marks. It might be an important bit of info. for new members.

I would like a full Boolean search engine to search for all those books you can't recall the title of. However, I am happy enough; narrowing 126 results down only 13 to look through is very acceptable. I might even find other books that look interesting that way. So thanks very much, Amy.

1271498 I'm with the others. A search engine that searches on title would be awesome.

834216 Yes yes yes. Something that allows to specify author and title terms as separate fields in an advanced search would be really really really really really nice.

1301551 The search engine is sort of bizarre in it's results.

I wonder if that's why there are often multiple listings of books, the person searched for it and didn't find it?

I've searched for a couple of titles that didn't come up on the first couple pages so I assumed that they weren't in there.

307322 It would be great to have an advanced search, where you could specify fields to search.

Also helpful would be a way to see books on my shelves that have X tag AND Y tag (i.e. "read" and "classic" rather than just one or the other). Should this go in a different thread? Feel free to move if it should.

Megan, I think that has been suggested before, but Otis counts "votes" to determine how soon they work on certain new features.

1 And sometimes its late at night and inspiration hits me, and I knock a feature off easily. I *think* we'll have author/title search in the next release :)
