105093 I just watched The Duchess and it was really very good, with wonderful costume designs. great acting. I loved the historical settings. If you enjoyed The Other Boleyn Sister you will most likely enjoy this one. women have came along way since those days, we were just our husbands property.

299646 Is this a new film, Margaret? Or is it out on DVD?

993802 The Duchess isn't exactly a new film, but it is still in theaters.

325271 I just watched it on DVD from Netflix. It was good, but heartbreaking. Fantastic wardrobes and great acting. It meant it a bit more that it was based on a true story. I'm always amazed at how well these period pieces are done now.

1278294 I didn't see this one because I thought it might be a bit...much...for me, if you get what I mean. But I saw that it was nominated for an Oscar, and I've seen the trailers and it looks really good! XD

1774301 Haven't seen this yet but definitely recoommend the book. Terrific biography called Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire. Although I think I remember reading on one of the Goodreads groups that it's been re-named The Duchess to match the movie.

1008237 I was curious about the movie.
I liked it, you can tell they went into great detail about the clothing and production details.

It was OK. I was expecting something a little more heavy and not so much fluff.
They kept stressing the parallels with Diana Princess of Wales and Prince Charles. Younger naive bride and the older and distant husband with a mistress.

They made it look as if Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire only had one lover. In actuality she had several, and became pregnant with more than just Grey's love child. They also ignored the role of her sister and constant companion Harriet, in favor of showing her husband's mistress.

They also overlooked her relationship and friendship with Marie Antoinette and the French aristocrats.
