They're both already on the Sisyphus list. They never really go away. (In fact, I've specifically requested that they not be merged away even when empty; makes finding them when they inevitably get repopulated easier.)
Image 128 is on the cover of each of the books so maybe something to do with the publisher or something like that? Anyway - it's just so annoying.
Found the link to the prior thread.

:)
See message 441 on this thread. I use the add book/author option on the comment window when in the group discussion topic page. There is a thread about this. I'll see if I can find it.
It really was a fluke, I was cleaning up the "." authors and I mistakenly typed "^.", (but with space not the ^ character) and up popped a whole series of authors. There were actually some with 2 spaces as leaders.
If you search here, you can use any character as the first letter of the first name.
I have used this technique before to clean up "Jr." and "Ph.D." that are listed as the first name.
Sherry, glad it was FIRST name and not LAST name.
I can't make it search for a blank space. Where are starting your search?

Many were, but not all were. But that does at least make more sense.
Congrats on the Inc.'s.
Ah, are they all two-language authors? That would actually explain it, especially if the second language is a left-to-right one, as in that example. Also, I got all the Inc.'s. Also the INC's.

Melody, you are absolutely correct, spaces before the LAST names stay. I found spaces before the FIRST names. However, as a word of caution to all librarians, I want to clarify this - Melody is 100% correct, be careful not to disrupt the disambiguation spaces. These represent hours (days?) of time to create.
Thanks.
I think they can be imported that way. You can't purposefully put in a name with a leading space and get it to work, but we've encountered these a few times before.
Don't know, but there are still some there. If you go to the "add book/author option" and type in a single space and then click search. You will have a list of authors that do have a space at the beginning of their names.مهندس مهدی مهرورزMehdi Mehrvarz
as an example.

Wait, I meant that these are spaces at the BEGINNING of the names. I understand the extra spaces in the middle of names, but these were spaces in the beginning - like ^Homer instead of Homer.
Must not have made myself clear. Sorry.
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/259...This needs Inc removed from all the listings and then the author listing for Inc changed to something (like not a book) so it will disappear.
Dear all - apparently there are two Tony Kushners, which are mixed up here

There's the Angels in America guy and the Holocaust scholar....
I also found a series of authors whose last names begins with extra spaces. I have been working my through these. (I'm adding this as a correction to this post - I should have said before the FIRST names!!).
I've got one more ... The author's name is "*".

How does this happen? (This is a rhetorical question...)

I know enough and have things here that already tell me these (from looking at the first few "editions") these contain different stories and so forth. I'll see what I can do to sort that out. =) (but don't let that stop anyone else from wading in.. trust me.. like de Balzac.. there is PLENTY to go around with Chekhov!)
There are 106 books under this listing.
Does anyone want to take this on ....

Look like many different sets of books got combined here. This reminds me of Dickens and Arthur Conan Doyle.
I'm not familar enough with these works to do this.
I can't find the correct author for these books listed under "Alan"http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/262...
There's also...
"Wagner"

I've also noticed quite a few biblical quotes in the quote list. How should they be attributed?
Looks like someone else did most of the work on the Japanese books, and I dug up the authors for the childcare book. (I think it's an academic paper, probably with very limited release. But it was cited elsewhere.)
Anyone want to tackle Shaw? The two Japanese literature books just show "Editor: Shaw" and the child care book doesn't seem to exist at all....
Okay, I have Stewart down to one book -- is there anyone who can clear it out entirely? I suspect reading Chinese would be useful here....
