I did, 13 minutes in and I knew they were finally going to kill Rita off.
I think last season was better. I liked this season but it had nowhere near the GASP factor as last season.
Is this Sunday the last episode?
It's so long til the next season, I'm torn between holding off to make it last longer, and watching that happens!
i am so impressed with the writers who contine to create excellent twists. my biggest concern after season two, was that the stories would become repeatitive; that the writers would run out of inventive suspenseful stories. i am delighted to be wrong. the unexpected - yet well constructed and believable - surprises have made every season excellent watching. like you Jackie, i did not see that one coming at all.
i am eager to see what happens next.
Great episode! Trinity's relationship to the reporter (can't remember her name), sure didn't see that one coming. I love this show, for things like that, the unexpected surprises.
Just saw Dexter last night..good episode!! Things are heating up!! The ending for this season is really explosive! Trinity's home life is not what it seemed! He has another child following in his footsteps. That was a surprise! And Dexter is totally confused about his family life and what that future has to hold.
so that last episode wasn't exactly action packed - i guess that's why there's been no activity on the message board. it was more about relationships i guess - Deb's partner and his journalist girlfriend, Dexter in marriage councilling. (there's a sentence i never expected to be writing) Dexter worming his way into Trinity's life. Angel and LaGuerta's romance. still the plot moved forward - with Dexter making nice with Trinity and Deb figuring out that Trinity was the shooter AND on the cusp of figuring out her father's secret lover - Dexter's mom! i am more and more impressed with the Deb character. she's smart and tough - but not unrealistically so, and just messed up enough to be interesting. she's really grown alot since first season.
but what is with Angel and LaGuerta? it seems kind of pointless - couldn't the writers come up with anything better for these characters to do this season?

later today - i'll message you with the websites and instructions on what to do. :)
I was surprised to see Trinity have a family, I assumed he was a loner. And a happy family man at that! This is really going to be very interesting!
It's strange how you always hear family and neighbors say they never never about someone's dark side, I never bought it, but after watching Dex with Deb and rita and the kids, and now Trinity and his family, it's believable.
I love this show, they bring so much to this series. It is far beyond the usual serial killer stuff. And they way I get pulled in, to love Dexter and not really mind what he does. How crazy is that, LOL
Jackie wrote: "She's in for a surprise if she find out who Harry really was. Her acting in the parking lot was spectacular. I don't think she gets credit for being such a good actress. I saw her in that otherw..."
i finally am caught up with you Jackie - and i couldn't agree more with you regarding the fine performance by Deb in the parking lot.
Dexter did a good job too. i mean he was surprised how much Deb getting shot hit him, but he didn't over act it. that would have been so unbelievable. he found a good balance that felt beleivable for his character.
i thought the ending was really interesting too - a nice twist - makes the Trinity killer more interesting to Dexter - a role model of sorts. how to balance home/family and the dark passenger.
Lori wrote: " I went to a Dexter web site, but all you can get is recaps. When did John Lithgow join the cast? He makes a really good bad guy. Have you seen Raising Cain, or Ricochet? Both are awsome movies wit..."
Lithglow is the current season guest star, and if the writers stay true to form, he will go down by the end of the season. Dexter is a little different than a lot of series, in that they don't do the cliff hanger at the end of the season. they tend to wrap the story line up and start fresh the next season.
and your are s000 right about Lithglow making a good bad guy. there is something about him - i mean besides acting the part. there is something just in the way he looks.
I went to a Dexter web site, but all you can get is recaps. When did John Lithgow join the cast? He makes a really good bad guy. Have you seen Raising Cain, or Ricochet? Both are awsome movies with JL being the bad guy.
She's in for a surprise if she find out who Harry really was. Her acting in the parking lot was spectacular. I don't think she gets credit for being such a good actress. I saw her in that otherwise horrible movie "Quarantine" and she was so good, I could feel her fear.
If, and that's a big if, Lundy was her soulmate, then break up with Anton FIRST. That's all I'm saying. He's a really nice guy who doesn't deserve to be shit on.
Jackie wrote: "I knew Deb would tell Anton! Stupid bitch! Not for telling, but for cheating on that fine specimen of man."
i've not watched it yet. there is a bit of a time lag between airing and when i see it.
so Jackie, i get that Anton is 'a fine specimen of a man' but she gets no sympathy for having lost her soul mate? at least he was soul mate-ish when it comes to career matters - and let's face it Deb(i keep wanting to call her Brenda)is alllll about her career. i mean seriously what else do we know about her. she swears. a lot. and she likes sex. ummmmm, that's about it.
so theirs was the classic professor / student relationship. and of course she's still working through her father issues. so the relationship made sense to me - on those levels anyway.
now Deb working through her father issues - that should be interesting - when she starts to put 2 and 2 together and gets ....
a) a rude awakening
b) a glimpse into the man her father was
c) suspicious about Dexter
d) all of the above
e) none of the above
I knew Deb would tell Anton! Stupid bitch! Not for telling, but for cheating on that fine specimen of man.
Lori wrote: " I don't know how! Can you just go to Dexter.com and watch episodes?"
Lori - i know you can find some shows on the network website - NBC, Global etc. and you can watch them without downloading. it's called streaming. it's much the same as watching you tube. i have no idea if episodes of Dexter are available by this method.
downloading requires a little more. you need to download a program like bit torrenz before you can start and then you have to download a codex program in order to play it /hear it.
you need to get a geek friend to hook you up and get you started!
Lori wrote: " I wish i had Showtime! I've seen season one, and my daughter watches it. She said it's good this season."
i guess you don't download off the internet? pirating that's the only reason i get to see it!!
I wish i had Showtime! I've seen season one, and my daughter watches it. She said it's good this season.
I would have liked a bit more cat and mouse between them, it could have lasted a long time as a sub-plot. Again, we know she had to go to preserve Dexter's secret but it would be fun to have her show up, taunt him and disappear again. Just to mess with him, never really going to tell anything, just keep him on a hook.
and your so right. i don't know how the writers will keep topping the previous season.
i know one of the story lines from the novels involves Cody. Dexter discovers that Cody - traumatized by things that happened to him by his father - is torturing / killing small animals. Dexter takes on his father's role - passing on 'the code' and how to survive in the world.
i loved the crazy Lila. i wish they hadn't killed her off. not that i want her around - one season was enough - but i think the writers could have done some interesting stuff if she were still alive and Dexter didn't know where or when she might pop up.
i just think that by killing her they lost a possible story line.
He was a good actor, whoever his is. I thought it was fabulous. Just like the Victor character, you knew he had to go, LOL
What did you think of that crazy 'B' Lila? What a nutjob!
And Jimmy Smits as Victor was phenomenal! every year Dexter tops itself, I only hope they can do it again, because last season was spectacular!
given, Doakes was an unlikable character. the writers didn't even try to make him likeable. but he was a great nemesis for Dexter. and your Dexter can handle himself.
I hated Doakes. Don't mess with my Dexter, LOL
Soon as I heard Rita's voice I knew it was Darla. She does look different than Darla.
i did watch Angel (and Buffy. and Firefly, but best not to get me going on Josh Whedon - especially in a thread totally non-related) i remember the character Darla, but i had not realized it was played by the same actress.
and as for Lundy (Lundie) not catching Dexter's scent - i am reminded of a comment Dexter made in season one or perhaps two, regarding Doakes and how surronded by hundreds of cops every day, Doakes was the only one who just knew in his gut that Dexter was not at all what he seemed.
poor Doakes.
That code is probably the only thing keeping him from killing her. That's all right, Dexter, send her to me...
Did you ever watch Angel? She was Darla, I hated her then too, LOL
Deb is going to tell Anton, I just know it! She's not an accomplished liar like Dexter, LOL Anton was already feeling the vibes.
I love Anton and want him to stay around. He's hot. I'd never have cheated on him and especially not with a man old enough to be my grandfather. Deb is crazy.
Lundie had to go, he had his suspicions and it wouldn't be long before he got Trinity. And that's the end of this season...so he had to be gone.
I never liked Lundie all that much, so no loss there. It's a freakin miracle that he didn't catch Dexter's scent. If he hung around, Dexter would have had to kill him anyway, LOL
Jackie wrote: "Deb will be OK, but her an Anton are over. I liked Anton. The FBI guy is dead.
i'm thinking Anton will stick around. i agree the F.B.I. agent Lundy is dead - and as he didn't share his suspicions about the bathtub killer, that info is lost - well, until someone listens to his recording. as Anton doesn't know Brenda and Lundy hooked up again, and Brenda will be recovering from gun shot and in shock over Lundy's death, i think they will likely stay together a little longer.
and yeah Jackie, i'm with you in wishing Rita would do some horribe crime so Dexter could kill her without violating his code! even her voice irks me.
Deb will be OK, but her an Anton are over. I liked Anton. The FBI guy is dead.
Dexter's family issues? I want him to kill Rita, if he doesn't then I will. She's too controlling. but what really pisses me off is how Dexter has to get up at night and take care of the baby. He is working and she's not. She's had 3 kids, she hasn't figured out you nap when the baby naps? She's just really anoying and Dexter would be better off without her, but he doesn't see it that way. I think Dexter is evolving into a human.
Another reason why I started watching B&S. Brenda was a looney, and her brother too, LMAO, but I really liked the both of them. She's such a different character on B&S. I love when you see such diversity in roles, it shows just how good they really are. I had no idea she was Austrailian, I saw her on a late night talk show about a year or two ago and when she spoke, I couldn't believe it. Her american accent is flawless.
Jackie wrote: "DDD has been on my To Read list for a long time, I have to find it at a used book sale and so far, haven't been lucky enough ot get my hands on it. I am a HUGE fan of Six Feet Under, my family..."
I loved the character of Brenda on SFU, and now I think she is incredible on Bros and Sis. It is so awesome to see her to from her Brenda character to her Sarah character - they are SO different. She is fabulous. Love her too.
DDD has been on my To Read list for a long time, I have to find it at a used book sale and so far, haven't been lucky enough ot get my hands on it.
I am a HUGE fan of Six Feet Under, my family owned a funeral home, so you can just imagine how I related to so much of it. The characters had parts of my family, strange, and cool at the same time. One of the reasons I decided to try Dexter is because of Michael C Hall. He is a fantastic actor. The difference from David to Dexter is incredible.
I can hardly wait til you catch up. Wait til you see Season 3, I was completely blown away by it. Each season is better than the previous one, if you can believe it!
I am not reading any of the above threads b/c I am a newbie to Dexter and am still in season one. I LOVE this show. I cannot think of the actor's name off the top of my head, but I LOVED him in one of my all-time favorite shows, Six Feet Under. I can't wait to watch the rest. Netflix has seasons one and two available to watch streaming which is nice. I read the first book in the series that prompted the show. The book, Darkly Dreaming Dexter, was good, but the show humanizes him a lot more. If you LOVE the show, I would suggest checking out the books for comparison.
3rd ep was pretty messed up, the way John Lithgow made that woman jump. I can't imagine such a thing.
I wasn't a big fan of episode 2...This season will be interesting as there is a fine line that the writers have to walk...if they humanize Dexter too much (with the home life, fatherhood, etc.) it will take away from the essence of the show. I don't think they will, just something to watch out for.
Still the show I look forward to most each week!
Has anyone watch the new season yet?
I watched the first episode. I have to say I'm a bit annoyed with Dexter's homelife. He's working a full time job, and Rita is a stay at home mom, so why is Dexter getting up all night with the baby? Rita can nap while the baby naps during the day, I mean, this is how it's done. And then for Dexter to take such a huge risk because of exhaustion! I don't think married life suits Dexter at all.
Yes he will be in all 12 of the season's episodes...plays a serial killer that Dexter begins to admire as he has eluded police for over 30 years. Also Lundy (played by Keith Carradine) returns after not appearing at all last season
Dexter is definitely my favorite show on TV. I can't wait for the next season... FYI: John Lithgow joins the cast, will be interesting to see...
