369169 oh boy. I almost forgot!
How could I almost forget????

Should we do this, I mean, will we have time to read as a group with Xmas and New years looming upon the horizion?

WHat the heck, lets give it a shot!!

Please nominate one book by posting TITLE and AUTHOR only.

We do not need seconds or thirds, any book that is nominated will be placed in the poll to vote on it once nominations are closed.

Lets leave this up for three days. Monday nite I will close nominations and create a poll on which to place your vote.

Have at it.

234101 Darla Excellent book !!! Have you seen the movie ?

message 11: by Darla (new)

1647426 Scott and Kate... I have seen the movie. It's so powerful. I actually just picked this book up online after seeing it on my brothers list. I'd really like to read it, although, if it's as good/better than the movie, I'll have to carry a box of tissues with me.

message 12: by Andrew (new)

1417440 If on a Winter's Night a Traveler....Italo Calvino.(Sorry if I spelled his name wrong)

message 13: by ScottK (new)

234101 For me the Movie was much more emotional than the book, but it takes alot for a book to my me cry. Although, Kite Runner did alot to make up for others in the crying dept.

message 14: by Darla (new)

1647426 Now I really hope it gets picked, just so I can compare the book with the movie :) My brother recommended the movie to me years ago. I remember how hard I cried and what an impact it had on me. Maybe I'm biased because of my brother, but I think it's something that everyone could benefit from watching/reading.

369169 Conni,
Only one nomination please. Please go back to your posts and delete two of the three you nominated. There are so many people in this group that it wouldnt be fair to them (or me)to allow multiple noms.... Not to mention, if everyone did it, Oye Vey... The list would be from here to the moon :)

Thanks!

1140952 I'm nominating [b:A Tale Of Two Cities|3270500|A Tale Of Two Cities (Classic Books on Cassettes Collection) [UNABRIDGED (Classic Books on Cassettes Collection)|Charles Dickens|http://www.goodreads.com/images/nocover-60x80.jpg|2956372]again

message 26: by Eileen (new)

945127 I second (and third) Kelly and Fiona and propose "Skipping Christmas" by John Grisham. It's perfect for the season - both holiday and electoral!

message 27: by Eileen (new)

945127 ps It's also a short, fast read

message 28: by Kathy (new)

971945 I second A Christmas Carol, Karen. I think it would be a perfect read for December. I just ordered the Jim Dale audio version. I had a chance to listen to some of it and was sold on it.

message 29: by Logan (new)

70078 I love Andrew's suggestion of If on a Winter's Night a Traveler and Jen's nomination for The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. I'll probably end up voting for The Spirit Catches... because I loved it so much when I read it, but I still feel compelled to nominate something.

How about War and Peace to get us through the winter doldrums?

message 30: by Eileen (new)

945127 I already voted...but just wondering about "If on a Winter's Night a Traveler." I've tried 2 Calvino's and so far I just don't "get" him. But, I've heard good things about Winter's Night. Maybe three time's a charm?

message 32: by Katie (new)

318610 Ok, it's probably a bit campy for y'all, but I need something light for December because my life is hell in December.

So I nominate He Sees You When You're Sleeping : A Novel by Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark.

message 33: by Melanie (new)

169381 The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga

message 39: by Donna (new)

1334924 I'm going with Santaland Diaries

message 40: by Donna (new)

1334924 OR Holidays on Ice

Santaliand diaries is a short read (160 pages)

message 41: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

369169 This is getting messy.

Conni, now I no longer see any nominations from you. I thought there was a post that had one nom, and one post that had two titles in it?

Eileen, Second and third-ing someones nomination is not required.

Donna, only one nomination per person. You must remove one of them.

***********************
Before anyone posts, they should be reading the guidelines in the opening post. I need this process to be as simple as possible. You must post once and only once, with one nomination. In that post, I need to have the title and the authors name. If there is no author, the nomination will be thrown out.

message 42: by ScottK (last edited Nov 22, 2008 05:32PM) (new)

234101 It ain't rocket science folks. All will be revealed in post #1. Lets not make Lori's job any harder than it already must be . ;)
