Hi, I'm 16 years old and love the classics! I'm currently reading The Outsiders. S.E. Hinton is one of my favorite authors. I also like Mark Twain, John Steinbeck, and Lois Lowery. I love horror novels. I really want to read Dracula, I have a passion for reading and writing about vampires and other gothic horror. Hope I can get some good recomendations for great classic reads! Thanks for making this group! :D

Dylan, If you like horror, a good classic is Richard Matheson's I AM LEGEND. David Jack Bell's contemporary novel, THE CONDEMNED, is also similar to Matheson's. Both are excellent. Also, anything by Patricia Highsmith might interest you if you're looking for classics and horror.

Dylan,
Didn't read Dracula but, Mary Shelly's Frankenstein is a great novel. I'm also a John Steinbeck and Mark Twain fan. Stenibeck does have a fan group on Goodreads though not much is happening there. The Outsiders is the book I did a paper on for library science. Did you read her adult book Hawkes Harbor? It has a vampire in it.
Dylan, have you ever listened to books? I listened to Dracula (unabridged and narrated by Robert Whitfield, downloaded from Audible.com)on my MP3. I enjoyed it a lot. You could check your library to see if they have free audio downloads (many do now) or books on CD. Carol
Thanks everyone. I've been wanting to listen to some audio books for a while now. How do those work? Do you put those in the DVD player? Computer? Car? I've never listened to one.
Molly: I love Richard Matheson's I Am Legend. It was so good. I'd love to read Condemned. I'm reading It by Stephen King now. He's my favorite author. This is one of the scariest books I've ever read. "They all float down here!" *shiver*
Dylan,
You can listen to books on your Ipod or MP3. If you are 16 years old, I'm sure you have one! If you buy one, make sure you get one with a display. I download books from www.audible.com and you can also get books from the ITunes store. Neither of those options are cheap, though, so check out your library's online catalog for audio downloads. (I download books from the Arlington County Library in VA, using my library card.) I'm sure you have a CD player - most libraries have good collections of books-on-CD. You can also buy books-on-CD from Barnes and Nobles or Amazon. I listen when I walk, exercise, do housework, ride the bus, etc. If you have a CD player or Aux input in your car, you can listen on long trips. I find it's easier to listen to some older classics this way, like Dracula. I might have given up on reading it, but with a good narrator, I just keep going through the difficult/slow bits and end up really enjoying the book. Happy reading (and listening)!
Carol
