Thanks, Dacia. I just downloaded The Host! :-) And I agree with you about the narration--Kristin Stewart's acting in the movie can't hold a candle to Ilyana Kadushin's narration!

I just finished Ella Enchanted. The narrator grows on you. I really liked it as well.

I LOVED The Hunger Games & Catching Fire! I listened to both books in less than 2 weeks! haha! Every moment I had available it was playing on my iPhone & I wasn't answering the phone or calling people back. Enjoy!!

820092 I am almost done listening to The Hunger Games on audio book. I wished for a bit better narrator but the story was very compelling- I found myself looking for busywork around the house just to I could extend my listening time. Normally I am not interested in post-apocalyptic style fiction but I was hooked into the story on this book right away. I've already purchased the sequel instead of waiting for my audible credits next month, I couldn't wait!

7424 Laurin - I've listened to that whole series. I wasn't as thrilled by the second and third books as I was with the first, but the 4th was pretty good, and the narration is AWESOME! I think she's part of the reason why I found the movie so horrible. Once you hear Bella's inflections in narration, the actresses cold tones just couldn't commpete.

I've recently finished Meyer's adult fiction book "The Host". While the premise is a little weird, I really enjoyed the story! It's read by Kate Redding, who is an excellent narrator. It was a bit strange for me because I'm so used to hearing her voices as characters in an extensive series of books that I listen to, but after the first disc, everything was great! I highly recomend it!

1283225 The Chronicles of Narnia are great on audio. I prefer the individual books to the dramatic narration that's all 7 books in one.

I recently listened to Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen and liked it a lot.

362844 I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I just finished listening to Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, narrated by Ilyana Kadushin. *blush* The narrator does a great job and is very believable as Bella. Guess who's on the waiting list for the audio book of New Moon...:-)

The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, narrated by Jim Dale is fantastic!

155288 I just finished Dairy Queen by Catherine Gilbert Murdock, which the narrator read in a Wisconsin accent... ;) It was really cute. I'm looking forward to listening to the sequel, The Off Season!

I believe he played Jim Chee in the film version of Tony Hillerman's series (on PBS) - terrific programs!

290848 Winnie the Pooh ... before there were Walkmen (let alone iPods!) there was my 33 rpm Pooh record narrated by Ian Carmichael (Lord Peter Wimsey).

Nophoto-f-25x33 I absolutely LOVE the GHOSTGIRL audiobook. It is narrated by PARKER POSEY, who does an amazing job - i LOVE her voice and there is original music by Vince Clarke.

820092 This summer my 5 yo and I listened to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, that was a lot of fun for long car drives.

Flight by Sherman Alexie for older teenagers. Narrated by Adam Beach, who was in Smoke Signals (Alexie's screenplay).

The original Winnie the Pooh stories done by the BBC, including Judi Dench on the cast. I cannot say enough good things about the cast for this narration, the voices are all so enjoyable, especially Eeyore. The original stories are also very clever, sweet and funny.

155288 Tim Curry??? I LOVE him!!

651844 I recently listened to Sabriel and Lirael: Daughter of the Clayr, written by Garth Nix and narrated by the fabulous Tim Curry! He does great voices. I have the third in the series, Abhorsen, also narrated by Tim Curry, waiting for me on my iPod.

2123648 Some of my favorite Y/A books have been written by Louise Erdrich. She writes about the American Indians and was herself of Indian ancestry. I think the same is true of Barbara Kingsolver, but I would not call her books Y/A.

1280334 As most of you probably know, Neil Gaiman's book "The Graveyard Book" won the Audies' Best Audiobook of the year. I really hated that one and couldn't finish. I just couldn't suspend disbelief for that one. Do kids like it better than adults?

155288 I'm really glad to hear that you guys enjoyed The Book Thief, because I'm going to start that one as soon as I'm done with Holes, which I'm really enjoying.

My most favorite YA audiobooks are all the Artemis Fowl books. The first five were narrated by Nathaniel Parker, who is just amazing. Book six is narrated by Enn Reitel, and it's pretty good, too.

Others I enjoyed: (narrator in parentheses)
Stargirl (John Ritter)
The Giver (Ron Rifkin)
Airman (John Keating)
Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie (various - full cast)

Sleeping Freshmen was really great. I'd never listened to an audiobook with a full cast before, and it was really great. It's SO much easier to tell who's talking when there is a distinct voice for each character!

351830 Children's/YA books I enjoyed on audio,

The Book Thief
Stargirl
Skulduggery Pleasant
Airborn
Skybreaker

Skulduggery Plesant, Airborn and Skybreaker were particularly well-done. I don't think I would have enjoyed them quite as much reading the written version.

1563933 The Septimus Heap series by Angie Sage is very well done. Gerard Doyle is a magnificent reader. Magyk is the first.

536069 I liked the book theif also but really enjoyed "The Art of Racing in the Rain" which was told from the point of view of a dog :-).

1658022 I really enjoyed The Book Thief, narrated by Allan Corduner. Philip Pullman and a cast do an excellent job narrating The Golden Compass. Sabriel, narrated by Tim Curry, was great. I enjoyed A Great and Terrible Beauty and the sequel, Rebel Angels,
narrated by Josephine Bailey. I'm not sure if it's a YA book, but The Power of One narrated by Humphrey Bower is one of my all time favorite audio books.

1759991 Any of the Focus on the Family Radio Theater, especially the Chronicles of Narnia. So far that's the only way my little brother knows the books- but I'm going to force him to read them!! ;)

1802047 I have a ton of children's/YA books on my ipod. I am addicted. Here are some of my favorites;
The Princess Academy
Goose Girl
Enna Burning
Book of a Thousand Days
Wild Magic
Wolf Speaker
Emporer Mage

The list could go on. They have been great for all of my road trips.

290848 I liked Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin on audio. Nutshell plot: teen girl dies - heaven like earth in appearance (only perfect) - folks age backwards to reincarnation.

1069643 One of my book groups just read The Willoughbys by Lois Lowry and loved the audiobook version (available as an Audible download). Very funny! Our only negative comments were that the humor is probably best enjoyed either by an adult, a child with a mature sense of humor, and/or experience reading the children's classics which are parodied in the short novel (they include the likes of Anne of Green Gables and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

I also listened to and enjoyed Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, which was a great little story (very different and much more substantial than the movie version). At times I found the reader's voice a bit whiny and later on when Ella has grown up a bit, her voice does not mature much. But I still gave it 5 stars--all in all it was a very satisfying listen.

Anyone else with audiobook kids/YA recommendations? I've heard (ha) that the Bloody Jack series by Louis A. Meyer is a good bunch.
