Too bad. I saw that they had over a hundred members and thought that some of them might not have come across our group yet.
Speaking of getting people in here, an invitation to the Faith & Spirituality group might be a good start. I'm not a member but I think Rick, R.C. and Eric are. Maybe one of them could mention it to that group.
You know what? Even if Dan is a saboteur, I think I like this image better. I am in agreement with Chantel.
Now if we can get some people in here that aren't atheists, we would be all set.
Ok, the "Religion ?" image was the clear vote-winner. However, when I uploaded it, it turned out that the white space was actually blank space, which became black space on goodreads and made the words illegible, which made the image look like a White Stripes album threw up on itself. So I switched to the second-highest vote-getter. If anyone finds a better version of that first image, or a better image, then I'll gladly switch.
But that's why I like the other one better---it means "Any religion????"
It asks the question at the heart of this group. All religions are welcome, true, but the idea isn't "All religions are awesome!!!! Yeah!!!!"
The idea is to discuss the validity of religious beliefs.
I vote #1-----and, no, it is not just because it was my original suggestion. I think it better encompasses the point of the group.
Well, let's put it up to a vote. I think we should avoid images that frame the debate as one simply between Christians and atheists, and images that are overtly condescending or offensive to religion. There will plenty of time for condescension within the posts. ;) Right now, I think there are three images that fit this bill, although more suggestions are welcome. We have:
1. religion?
2. religious symbols
3. Plato and Aristotle
I also like the idea of something like this. There are a bunch of different pie charts like this out there. If anyone knows of a better-looking one, let me know. I will arbitrarily decide when both the suggesting and voting periods have ended, because what would a religion discussion be without at least a little arbitrariness?
I don't know Dan, we might alienate the FSM followers with that one.
Just kidding, it looks good to me. :)
Nathan has the best one. Not really offensive to any group. I personally do not care for the buddy Christ and I do believe that Adam is right. It would discourage other groups from joining.
I don't mind buddy Christ but perhaps we need something more generic ? Otherwise we might discourage Muslims, Buddhists e.t.c ?Or maybe I'm just over thinking things.
I think that the image should be neutral. Both images seem to lean to one side of the views.
Just my thoughts though.
Now that I'm thinking about it though, those images might dissuade the religious folks from joining the group. Maybe I should look for a nice shiny bible image or something.
Haha, I really like the second one. I thought about looking for a good group image before, but then I got lazy.
While the lovely goodreads question mark might actually work for this group, I thought I'd try to see if I could find something that might be a better fit...

Anyone else have any suggestions?
