Lady Danielle aka The Book Huntress (Gatadelafuente) | 39 comments I was wondering if anyone on the group can recommend some books with African-American heroes or interracial books that have dangerous alpha or gamma heroes?

I haven't been reading AA romance lately because I haven't found any that meet my tastes for the dangerous heroes. I love suspense and adventure in my contemporaries. I appreciate your help.

MelissaB (MelissaAnn) | 33 comments I would like to read more AA heroes as well. I haven't read a lot of interracial romance yet, I did read a Harlequin once with an AA hero.

I was watching Beyonce's new video to "If I Were A Boy" and she has this really hot AA male cop in it, which got me wondering why I have never seen a romance with a hot AA cop hero. That would be very cool.

new_user Hmm, good question, ladies. I don't read much contemporary, but I think Clay from Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series might be AA. I know he's alpha, LOL. I don't recall any mention of a specific race in the first two books of the series that I've read. She just mentions he's dark-skinned. Maybe someone who's read the book can give you a better idea, I'm just anticipating reading the book, LOL. :)

Suzanne Brockmann also writes interracial relationships sometimes. I've heard Harvard's Education is good, but I've never read it. The h/h are AA from what I understand.

I'd like to read some more of these relationships myself. :) It's more interesting when the hero's has a different perspective, maybe exposure to a little more of the world.

Edit: Btw, Clay is part Egyptian, not AA-- though why he has such dark skin, I'm not sure...

Julie (Mom2lnb) (mom2lnb) | 146 comments I wouldn't mind reading a more inter-racial romances myself. I can't really think of any I've read lately off the top of my head especially ones with AA heroes. You might try All About Romance's Inter-Ethnic Romance list. Perhaps you'll find something along the lines of what you're looking for there.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 131 comments Being White/Caucasian I have never sought out AA heroes but I would be willing to read them. I did read Harvard's Education and another one of Brockmann's but I don't recall the name. I liked them. I must admit I met some really nice looking AA men while I was in the US Navy!!

Lady Danielle aka The Book Huntress (Gatadelafuente) | 39 comments I love Nalini Singh's books. I really appreciate how ethnically diverse they are. A lot of her characters have a mix of races. Same for Brockmann's books. If you want some recommendations for interracial, I'd be happy to give you a list. I just haven't read that many with a large, compelling suspense plot except for Gone Too Far and I'll Be Your Shelter by Giselle Carmichael. They tend to focus more on the relationship.

Lady Danielle aka The Book Huntress (Gatadelafuente) | 39 comments I would recommend Brenda Jackson or Beverly Jenkins if you want to try some AA romance. Rochelle Alers is good too. The Hideaway series by Rochelle Alers was stellar and she did have some dangerous heroes in there. Particularly Hidden Agenda and Vows. Joshua Kirkland was hot (technically he was biracial-blond with grey eyes)! The only issue I have with Brenda Jackson is most of her heroes are playboys. I would prefer to see a better mix of types of heroes. I think that the AA heroes are very compelling and sexy. I just wish that the books had more edgy story-telling like Anne Stuart. Since she is my favorite author, I keep wishing that I could read books with AA characters who are in that vein.

Anyone on here still waiting for Jazz's book from the Team 16/Troubleshooters series?

Auntee | 493 comments That's not the next one, is it Gatadelafuente?

new_user The main character from Lynn Viehl's Darkyn series is AA. The hero isn't, but he is alpha, LOL. So is the heroine for that matter.

Kathrynn | 120 comments I was scanning the groups (romance) and saw this one.

Excellent idea!

I've noticed some of my local Walmarts are setting up an AA section, so this may be the start of something that will grow in popularity.

Lady Danielle aka The Book Huntress (Gatadelafuente) | 39 comments Unfortunately a lot of the books in the African American section fall into the thug lit category. It's a pet peeve of mine.

Lady Danielle aka The Book Huntress (Gatadelafuente) | 39 comments You mean If Angels Burn New_User? That was really good.

Lady Danielle aka The Book Huntress (Gatadelafuente) | 39 comments Maybe I will have a niche if I ever get published. LOL.

new_user Yep, If Angels Burn. I really liked it too. :D We have AA sections set aside in our bookstores here, and they have a good deal of contemporary romance. I live in the Chi, so that may have something to do with it. ;) I think it's a growing market.

Lady Danielle aka The Book Huntress (Gatadelafuente) | 39 comments Well my Walmart continues to disappoint me with their book section. They usually are late putting out new books. They never put out Hostage to Pleasure by Nalini Singh. I had to buy it when I went out of town on business at a Books-A-Million near my hotel. I hate to be a snob, but most of their AA books are very lowbrow and not at all my taste. Stuff about thugs and their womem. Ugh! Baby Mama drama and Gold diggers and such. I still check it for the interracial books and for certain authors.

pianogal I don't think anyone's mentioned LA Bank's Vampire Huntress books. They've got a PNR angle, but they are definately interracial and inter-ethnic. A little heavy at times, but I've enjoyed them so far.

new_user Gatadelafuente, have you tried Eric Jerome Dickey? His suspense is pretty popular, but I don't know if the heroes are alpha.
