369169 Hi Kristin! Yay, another Odd lover :)

Welcome to the group. It certainly helps that you are not afraid to spend money on books. We are addicted to hearing about everyones splurges, and live to add new books to our TBR... so you MUST help us feed that addiction at all costs!

'Second Glance' is my favorite Picoult book!!!
Can't wait to hear your comments...I never liked any of her other books.
Good thing you are used to being book-broke!!! LOL!

2134775 Hi All,
My name is Kirstin. I noticed your group when I was reading through posts of one of the other groups that I am a member of. I love, love, love to read. I see as a qualification of joining your great group is that I have to spend all of my spare cash on books. Well, that is certainly no problem. I think that I might be one of the people that are keeping Amazon up and running..lol. I also have a major problem passing up Borders without stopping in and swearing that I will only purchase one book! Of course that never happens.

I am currently reading Second Glance by Jodi Picoult and am anxiously awaiting my delivery of the first three books of Charlaine Harris's Harper Connelly series.

Oh, and also to Lori, I am also a huge fan of Dean Koontz's Odd series. They were great and I could not put them down.

2489840 Hi Lydia, and welcome to the group!

Recommendations...I really liked City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. However, it is one of the edgier types of young adult fiction, so if that's not your taste, feel free to steer clear of it.

1176067 Hi Lydia, welcome to the group! I love your idea of a present. I usually give out books to the kids in my family as well. What are some of your favorite YA books?

BTW, congrats on beating cancer!

message 3: by Fiona (new)

1356469 Hi Lydia. I love YA too.

My favourites are anything by Diana Wynne Jones who writes childrens/ya fantasy and she's been around for ages. Bookshops never tend to have her stuff though, it's really annoying.

Across the Nightingale Floor - first of the Otori series by Lian Hearn these are YA and adult book kinda crossover - although apparently in the US they're only found in the adult section.

His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman

The Seeing Stone by Kevin Crossley Holland - part of the Arthur trilogy which is also followed up by Gatty's Tale all set in medieval England and a bit in the crusades, and a pilgrimage to Jerusalem - very good.

I also like Eva Ibbotson for some good romance - specially The Secret Countess and The Morning Gift.

1331593 Hi all,

I am a friend of Hollie's and wanted to join this group since there is a Children's and YA.

I am a librarian educator and since I have 16 grandchildren (won't even mention the number of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews AND great-grand nieces and nephews -- what can I say?)I have been reading YA to the max. Naturally, I read works which appeal to me personally, but find ways to purchase and acquire books for the children, which is my semi-annual present to the families (always one sent just before summer).

As Paige, one of the grand-daughters who used to NEVER speak to me said once she decided I was okay, "I know who you are -- you're my book grandma!"

I'm a 56-yr. old black female breast cancer survivor, teach information and library science at Rutgers currently, had my very first job at 14 in my local library, and reading will always be a core component of my being. I also belong to the Chick Lits group.

Hope to get to know you all.

Lydia
