Kat (Kat2011) | 107 comments Hope this is in the right forum...

But I'm wondering if any of you can recommend some good free HORROR Kindle books or stories from Amazon.com (or where ever) I think a lot of times I come across short stories, but authors have asked people to give good (false) reviews for their books and I've gotten bad stuff.

Charlene | 4536 comments I find books free a couple of ways.
ereaderiq.com sends an email every day with free books. You can have it sorted by genre and you can exclude genres you are not interested in.
You can also use it to track the pricing of books you are interested in. You will then get an email when one of the books drops in price.

Another free service is Lendle.me (no .com after the title). You enter the books you own so others can borrow them. In turn you are able to request lends from others.

Lastly, there are free ebooks at most libraries. You may have to download a program called Overdrive to access them. I have found that local libraries vary widely as to what ebooks are available. Some have thousands and others only hundres.

Oh! There is a thread here at HA from Nikki. She posts free and discounted books, both e and paper form.

Kat (Kat2011) | 107 comments Thank you for the info on where to find them..I'm definitely going to check out that email site

Mainly I was just curious if anyone knew of specific free books on Amazon.com that were horror related that were good. I've found a few of them with decent (or terrible) ratings, but I think authors friends mainly commented on them and gave them good reviews even when they were terrible.

Zombette | 725 comments I have so many free books I got off of Amazon. I just read the premise and if it sounds good I dl it. If it isn't good, oh well. It was free. There are TONS on there.

Kat (Kat2011) | 107 comments Yeah, it just sucks that most of them don't have very good descriptions. I don't like to be swayed by reviews. But I do seek out the bad reviews so I know what I'm getting into. Unfortunately most of them have no reviews, or have glowing reviews which are obviously family members or friends...I've read a few that have glowing reviews that have turned out terrible LOL.

Anne | 4 comments The Turtle Boy was really good, as was Underneath - both free on Amazon.

Kat (Kat2011) | 107 comments Anne wrote: "The Turtle Boy was really good, as was Underneath - both free on Amazon."

Thanks, I'll definitely check out Underneath!

Charlene | 4536 comments Add another vote for Turtle Boy #1.
I have 3 or 4 more of the Turtle Boy series to read.

Kenecia (temperamentalme) I'll have to look those up. Books are wonderful. Free books are priceless.

Charlene | 4536 comments Joe Lansdale has two free ones right now and 1 free for Amazon Prime members here:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_nos...

Glen Krisch | 81 comments I have a two-in-one book listed on Amazon for Free until the end of 12-22. I’m hoping you take advantage of it. Twice as Dark collects two of my acclaimed horror novels. Download, spread the word, wonder about my sanity.
USA: http://www.amazon.com/Twice-Dark-Nove...
UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Twice-Dark-No...

This omnibus contains the novels WHERE DARKNESS DWELLS and THE NIGHTMARE WITHIN. A monster of a volume, this single ebook is over 195k words (or 700+ pages if in print).

WHERE DARKNESS DWELLS
Summer, 1934. Two boys, searching for a local legend, stumble upon the Underground, a network of uncharted caverns. Time holds no sway there; people no longer age and their wounds heal as if by magic. By morning, one boy is murdered, while the other never returns.
Below a town ravaged by the Great Depression, an immortal society thrives, built on the backs of slavery and pervasive immorality.

THE NIGHTMARE WITHIN
Maury can pull dreams into the waking world, giving them corporeal form. From a boy named Kevin, he removes a nightmare dubbed Mr. Freakshow. Mr. Freakshow knows the rules: a dream becomes immortal by killing its dreamer. When the nightmare escapes his confinement, he has but one goal.

Will Kevin survive his nightmare?

Kenecia (temperamentalme) Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks! Sounds good. I just grabbed both of those.

Do you need to read the other book to know whats going on in Desert Places? It says its a prequel...

Justin (justineaton) | 500 comments Dessert places is the first book in the series followed by locked doors, break you (a novela) and then stirred. I don't know about a prequil, I thought that was the order they where released, after reading the series I would recomend reading them in that order.

Scott Nicholson (scottnicholson) | 137 comments I don't know if this is a cool place to post your own freebies, but I have a ton of them this week, in a mix of genres. They are listed and linked at http://hauntedcomputer.blogspot.com

Enjoy!

Charlene | 4536 comments Thanks, Scott!

Justin (justineaton) | 500 comments All Blake crouch's books except for a couple are free now untill new years. To anyone that got dessert places the entire series is free, seperatly or collectively as "thicker than blood the Andrew z Thomas series" his short story collection "fully loaded" is good if you want a short story to see if you like his writing. I highly recomend everyone download all his books because you won't regret it. There are a lot more of them than what I just mentioned here.

Greg Sisco (gregsisco) | 21 comments Hey guys. Just to let you know, my vampire horror book Thicker Than Water is FREE for the next 48 hours, ending around 11:59 PM on December 29.

This is a grizzly, violent horror book with a lot of very dark humor, some twisted romance, and a bit of graphic sex. Not one for the kiddies.

Let me know what you think.

Justin (justineaton) | 500 comments I love the title and the book sounds really good even though I hate that every vampire book now has to mention twilight in the description. Thanks!

Marc-Antoine | 2669 comments Thank you Greg, on the shelf.

Kenecia (temperamentalme) Thank you! Sounds like a good one.

Greg Sisco (gregsisco) | 21 comments Thanks for downloading. I hope you like it. And please help me spread the word about the giveaway. I have a number of copies I'd like to give out by tomorrow and it's not going to be easy.

Charlene | 4536 comments I picked it up, thanks Greg!

Greg Sisco (gregsisco) | 21 comments And thank you for reading. I hope you enjoy it.

Vernessa Fernandes (Wetmokakisses) | 8 comments I just got it, and will read over the weekend, thanks!

Greg Sisco (gregsisco) | 21 comments Awesome. Enjoy. Please post a review when you finish it.

Nick (nick1050) | 46 comments Has any one tried ebookr.com? It's got a 15.00 a month subscription rate for unlimited downloads but I'm wondering if its legit.

Kat (Kat2011) | 107 comments Haven't heard of it before

Nick (nick1050) | 46 comments It's pretty crazy, I ran a search on authors I like and it had every book written by them in all e book formats.....

Kat (Kat2011) | 107 comments So sort of a Netflix streaming package but for books...

Nick (nick1050) | 46 comments That's exactly how they worded it on their site

K Allen Wood (kallenwood) | 56 comments Nick wrote: "Has any one tried ebookr.com? It's got a 15.00 a month subscription rate for unlimited downloads but I'm wondering if its legit."

I can tell you right now it's bullshit. The Shock Totem holiday issue is up there, but I've never made it available to them, and that's the only issue to date that's been pirated.

So piss on that site!

Thanks! That's exactly what I needed to know

K Allen Wood (kallenwood) | 56 comments Yeah, it's got all kinds of stuff that it clearly should not have. Early Koontz, Keene's Deluge...definitely a site of pirated work.

Nick (nick1050) | 46 comments I thought it to be shady, I saw Richard laymon books (like in laymon's terms )that are available on there but not on Amazon or Sony's reader store, and these guys are making money off of it......
