Angela B | 320 comments Soooo I haven't been around enough lately, is the goal to really read 144 books by the end of the year that fit into this challenge? I know I can't read that many books in one year so I'm a tiny bit confused :)

Essentially, this challenge is about reading a lot this year! And reading more than just one genre--to spread your horizons and vary your bookshelves.

Many of us don't expect to finish. then there are some that will probably finish by June. =P But it's just all fun!

Congratulations! I actually read a lot when I had a newborn. Well, for two of my kids. They sleep so much.

There should be a link that says "show books" and if you click on that it should update your number. At least that's what happens to me.

Also, make sure that the books you have read have the finish date attached so that Goodreads will count them.

As for your link to the 12x12 challenge, if you signed up for that, you have to link your challenge to a shelf under your books, so you'll have to make a 2012 reads shelf or something and link it up to that. And when you type the name of your shelf, be sure to include the dashes (-) between each word. I found that out after multiple attempts at getting it to work.

Hope that helps. =)

I managed to link my challenge to my read shelf. That way I don't have to remember to add another shelve to every book.

As Lori has said when you mark you book as read click on further options and add the day that you completed the book for it to register.

So far all my books have shown up fine although at the moment I am 1 book behind if a actually want to complete the challenge!!

Lori Goldstein | 176 comments Jennifer and Hettie,
Thank you for your help in getting me connected. My tally said I'm on track for my 65 books for this year.

I do have a questions for Hettie, I could not find the "further options link" you referred to. Please let me know where it is so I too don't have to remember to add another shelf to every book.

Again, I appreciate the tips you both gave.

Hi Lori

I'm glad that you managed to link up to the challenge ok. It took me a bit to figure it out myself. The reason I linked it to my read shelf was that I could not figure out how to link it to my read 2012 shelf. I had not thought of adding the - between words!

Regarding the further options link that I mentioned I got a bit confused. I went and had a look at one of my books to clarify. When you edit your review of a book they sometimes hide the option to add the date that you completed or started to read a book. If you click on the "more options" link just above the save button you will find these boxes and other as well. If you have a "hide more options" link instead over the save button you should have both of these boxes visible already.

As long as you add a date from this year in the date I finished this book and have your read shelf hooked into the 12x12 challenge all your books should register without having to add another shelf.

Hope that this helps and that I have made some sense.

Hettie

Lori Goldstein | 176 comments Hettie, Thank you so much for giving me such detailed yet simple instructions. It's helped and as you said I'm now connected.

This group has certainly changed my outlook on reading. One big change is that now I'm reading 2 or more books at once where as before it was one book at home and an audio book in the car for my commute to work. Since getting laid off November 2010 my audio book minutes have been cut way down. When I did the audio I'd average 8 to 11 discs per title, but now it's dropped significantly. Looking now for much shorter audio books.

Looking forward to the books you read/rate and periodically compare notes.

Have a good weekend. Will you be going to any movies or sporting events this weekend?

I'm glad I could help Lori.

I love the trackers as it really helps me stay on track for my reading goals.

The various challenges that I have taken part in on goodreads has really increased the amount of reading that I do. I particularly love the 12x12 idea as it will make me read a greater variety of books.

I did not get up to much over the weekend. There was a 'cold snap' and 'lots' of snow in Southern England and pretty much everything slowed down so I took the easy option and stayed at home and did stuff there. I use quotes as if you are from anywhere that actually has harsh winters you would look at the weather over the weekend and think it was balmy. England just cannot cope with winter.

Look forward to reading your reviews

Hettie

Update: I've got 14 books for the challenge and the year, due to my lack of reading in February. But I feel pretty confident that if I don't get to 144, I'll be close. My goal for March is only 5 books, but I'm hoping that I'll have to up it! :D

Evil Twin One (Ange) (teamvampire13) | 110 comments I'm up to 48 books for the challenge/year. I've been able to read a lot right now but come the summer months that will probably slow down because I'll have all 4 of my kids home during the day instead of just the youngest 2. Also helps that I started listening to audiobooks while I do housework. Cleaning doesn't interfere with my reading anymore. :D

Stacie-- Woohoo! :D

Evil Twin One (Ange) (teamvampire13) | 110 comments I'd never listened to audiobooks before but I love them now. Though some of the narrators I've heard just didn't match how I pictured the characters voices, nor did the one do a good English accent. She sounded more like the wicked witch of the east. lol

Zakiya the Walking Butterfly (walkingbutterfly) | 3574 comments Mod
LOL! I'd listened to Pride and Prejudice and Emma on audio before I got my iPod, but not any up-to-date books, so to speak. So far I haven't really had a problem with narrators. My favorite would have to be the one that read Oh. My. Gods.; her name's Jessica Almasy.

Evil Twin One (Ange) (teamvampire13) | 110 comments The narrator for the Dark-Hunter series is good too. I think his name was Holton Graham. Or they should do what they did for Nick and norahs infinite playlist, a guy did the male voices and a girl did the female voices.
