I am not going to count anything this year. No books, no pages. I am however going to try to read as many books as I already have in my possession and not buy too many new ones (one can hope). I am going to participate in a lot of challenges. Also I am going to try to read at least 6 plays by the Great Bard. Somehow I missed him completely when reading the classics last year so I am going to read him this year. I am thinking about reading the following:
1) The Taming of the shrew
2) Much ado about Nothing
3) Hamlet
and some kings, don't know which yet.

Wherever do you get time to read 19 books in a month? I hardly have time to read 6 and I have at least 6 hours a day for reading.
Haha, and I thought I enjoyed reading a lot.

Barbara | 4388 comments Mod
Well first of all I have loads of time because I am unemployed which means I can read what I want when I want for how long I want.
Secondly I read kind a fast. Especially if they are simple paperbacks that I really like I can go through them like it is nothing. For example yesterday I was reading books in a series romance novels which are really girly and have me laughing out loud at times and then I read about 500 pages that day which I will do in about 6-7 hours. Depending how often I am interrupted by my cats and the phone.
If I read a lot of non-fiction or classics then I will go a bit slower. But January had a lot of easy books to read.

Henri | 117 comments Ahhh I remember the days when i could read 500 pages a day... good they were. At the moment I would rather read than watch a movie or tv series. Much more enjoyment in it, just wish I could get wifey to see things that way.

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1741 comments Mod
Oh I wish I could read faster! I crawl along at barely 200 pages in 5 hour reading session. But hey, I get there eventually. :P

Barbara | 4388 comments Mod
Well it does depend on the book. If I read non-fiction I do 200 pages in 5 hours too. And 200 pages in 5 hours is still a respectable speed. And you do read a lot anyway Claudia no matter at what speed you read.
Also I have a lot of time to read and reading is a skill you have to maintain. The less I read the slower I read. The more I read the faster I read. It's connected.
I too love to watch a movie or series and I do own quite a lot of dvd's. So many that on a shopping trip 2 years ago my local dvd vendor made a comment about it. I was buying some dvd's and he asked the normal question if there were any presents among them so he could wrap them and I answered no they are all for my own collection. To which he replied that must be quite the collection by now. He had seen me so often that he just had to draw that conclusion. Right now I am just addicted to reading and can't find the patience to watch a screen for an hour and a half. Also watching a movie becomes more fun if you have someone to share it with and since I live alone and am single that someone is missing. So reading is my passtime of choice.

Henri | 117 comments Claudia wrote: "Oh I wish I could read faster! I crawl along at barely 200 pages in 5 hour reading session. But hey, I get there eventually. :P"

I barely get to 120 in 6 hours, but then i do get interupted a lot.

I have reached my goal of 150 books, even though Goodreads doesn't reflect that yet because of the rereads.

Congratz that is awesome!

Barbara | 4388 comments Mod
Thanks guys! I am going to try for 200 but that is an unofficial goal. :)

Varla Fiona (Trogs) | 1227 comments Awesome. I must admit, I would have thought you had read more as I am in the 140's and I assumed you would have read more than me as you are always a bit ahead of me in the challenges! I'm going for 200 as well and at my current rate I should reach it comfortably.

Barbara | 4388 comments Mod
Thanks. I did have a bit of a readers block in March/April and August was also a slow month for me.
With challenges my competitive side rears its ugly head and I do read a bit faster just to beat Lauren F. Especially if I have the books already and don't have to buy them. :)
Yeah I should reach the 200 quite easily too. I think that will be a record for me, to have read so many books in one year. Good luck on reaching it!

Barbara | 4388 comments Mod
Yeah I read more than 200 books this year. Granted one of them I read twice and one or two didn't have 150 pages but I also read several books that had more than 500 pages and one even more than a 1000 pages so on average it still counts. :)
