1603243 I just recently started reading the Dark-Hunter series (HOLY CRAP WHERE HAVE I BEEN?) and they are really very good, in my opinion. I absolutely love the back stories incorporating Greek/Roman mythology and I am super impressed with how deep her books are (as apposed to just “romance fluff’). There is definitely something to say about a smart author able to create an intense and heartfelt story and incorporate intelligent dialog, back stories and descriptions.

Since I have just started I would like to know what your favorite book is. As with most series, some are stronger than others and although I absolutely LOVED Zarek’s story (Dance with the Devil), I’d like to know what else I have to look forward to. So, what is your favorite and why……..I’ll start. (Thank you in advance for sharing your opinions!)

Dance with the Devil: Although I haven’t read very many (4 total in the Dark Hunter series) I am an absolute sucker for strong willed men turning compassionate and caring because of the love of someone else.

1320046 #1: ACHERON - such a great book! Worth reading the entire series just for this book alone.

#2: Night Play - Vane and Bride were great!

message 3: by Jess (new)

901103 This is such a difficult question, I can honestly say that I loved almost every book in her dark hunter series... hmm which did I like the best.

Devil May Cry is my favorite, followed closely by seize the night and acheron

message 4: by Shazzy (new)

1034664 Seize the night is my favourite book in the series, so much happens in that book!
I'm reading Acheron now.

message 5: by Jess (new)

901103 Shazzy- I agree with you. I think I like it mostly because I feel bad that everyone is so nasty to Valerius when he just can't help it. I like that in other books later in the series, it seems the other DH's have accepted him.

message 6: by Nickie (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 I agree with the not having a favorite story
I plan on reading them all again
but everyone of them are fabulous
I keep finding that i just have to read the next one i have found....

message 7: by Jill (new)

177227 DH is my favorite series. I love them all but if I had to pick one it would be Acheron.

The next book in the series, One Silent Night comes out 11/4!

message 8: by Shazzy (new)

1034664 Jess- they do start to accept him and Tabitha has alot to do with that. She's one of my favourite females in the series, I love the differences between the two of them, he's so uptight and she's a loose cannon!

message 9: by Jess (new)

901103 Shazzy - She also is one of my favorite female characters. They are very different from each other, but she brings out the best in him, and he brings out the best in her. I love how in the beginning of the story he was so mortified by her and her behavior, but in the end he realized that, that is what made her so special to him!

message 10: by Jess (new)

901103 What did everyone think about Kenyon's newest book One Silent Night?

I think it was fantastic because of all the insight it provided on a variety of the categories. I don't personally like Stryker's heroine, but oh well, I guess they are supposed to be "evil".

message 11: by new_user (last edited Nov 11, 2008 10:07AM) (new)

1365355 I've never been a Kenyon fan, but I think I may start after reading the excerpt for Silent Night, LOL. Piqued my curiosity.

Why don't you set up a poll to see everyone's fave? I bet you'd get a lot of input. :)

message 12: by Jess (new)

901103 new_user - I would suggest that you start with the first book because the books are all built on one another. Although each book has a main hero and heroine, the characters are all intertwined and are seen in all the books.

It's a really good series you should give it a try.

message 13: by Jess (new)

901103 Kathy - I agree about Acheron being a great book in the series. But I think the second half of it was much better than the first half. Did you feel similarly?

message 14: by Jess (new)

901103 Kathy - yes, I think the book was seperated into the past and then present day. I preferred the present day part (which is when Acheron starts to narrate)

Yeah I felt so bad for him, and I can't believe he thought people wouldn't respect him. It's not his fault!! But I find that I can't re-read that first section because it's so sad.

message 15: by Lbug (new)

1511114 Do these need to be read in order?

message 16: by Jess (new)

901103 Lbug - the series should be read in order because if you start with the end, you wont really understand the characters because all of their stories are intertwined. Many of the characters appear in eachother's books, and the series will just make more sense.

1339156 Lbug, yes you do need to read them in order. Each book builds on the characters and relationships introduced in the earlier books. You don't have to read all of the short stories but if you can get them at the library, they are good to read as well. Here is the correct order:

1. Fantasy Lover
2. "The Beginning", also in the back of Sins of the Night
3. Dragonswan
4. Night Pleasures
5. Night Embrace
6. "Phantom Lover",Midnight Pleasures anthology
7. Dance with the Devil
8. "A Dark-Hunter Christmas", also in the back of Dance with the Devil
9. Kiss of the Night
10. Night Play
11. "Winter Born", in the anthology Stroke of Midnight
12. Seize the Night
13. Sins of the Night
14. "Second Chances" (included in the Dark-Hunter Companion)
15. Unleash the Night
16. Dark Side of the Moon
17. "A Hard Day's Night-Searcher",My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding
18. "Until Death We Do Part", in the anthology Love At First Bite
19. Fear the Darkness - E-book you can get from Kenyon's website
20. The Dream-Hunter
21. Devil May Cry
22. Upon the Midnight Clear
23. Dark-Hunter Companion
24. Dream Chaser
25. Archeron
26. One Silent Night - Nov 4th
27. "Shadow Of The Moon",in the anthology Dead After Dark - Dec 08
28. Dream Warrior - Feb 09

985335 My first experience with the DH series was when Lorette at Coles bookstore handed me Seize the Night. Not realizing it was part of the series, I bought it and took it home. I didn't really get that 'lost' feeling while reading it out of order, other than the characters seem to know each other. Once I caught on to what a DH'er did, it was smooth sailing. I immediately went out and got the rest of the series. Do I think they should be read in order: Yes.

Fave DH books:
1. Acheron - while someone in another group serious complained about the first half of the book, I pointed out that, if you really want to get inside Ash's head and frame of mind, then the first half of the book needed to be the way it was.
2. Night Play - absolutely the best. When Bride tells Vane's mother off, that was the best part of the book. I was literally, no joke, cheering for her at the top of my lungs.
3. Dance with the Devil - c'mon, who doesn't love Zarek?
**There they are, my fave, in that order.

message 19: by Lbug (new)

1511114 Thank you!

1570669 Easier to say my least faves:

Night Embrace (the romance part did nothing for me but loved the storytelling. I just wasn't feeling Talon and Sunshine as a couple).
Sins of the Night (I didn't like the ending)

Otherwise I love them all. Great series that I am pretty behind on (last one I read was Dark Side of the Moon).

message 21: by Jess (new)

901103 Kathy - I'm sorry, I meant once the book was into the present tense is when I really started to enjoy the book.

I also agree that the first section of the book really helped you to understand more about Acheron's character and his frame of mind.

I also like Zarek, he's like a cranky teddy bear haha, but I think I like Valerius the best out of all the DH's!

message 22: by Josephine (new)

1586905 My all time favorite would be Unleash the Night. I absolutely love Wren. Not far behind would be Dance with the Devil, which frankly has some kick a** fight scenes. Zerek is definitely close behind Wren as my second favorite. He’s sexy at about everything he does, fighting, snarling, and loving. I also can’t get enough of Vain. He adores his woman the way we all want to be loved.
Frankly, I can’t wait for Fang’s and Aimee’s story. I have been looking forward to it for years now.

message 23: by Celeste (new)

1062992 My favorite is NIGHT PLAY! It is the very first Sherrilyn Kenyon book I ever read, and continues to be my all time favorite! There is just something about Vane Kattalakis (even his name sounds sexy!!) that I ADORE. And Bride's not too bad either ;) These two have awesome chemistry and it will probably always be my fav SK book. But every time I re-read it, it makes me want to read Fang's (I think that's Vane's brother's name?) story!!

message 24: by Kim (last edited Nov 13, 2008 07:40AM) (new)

925549 I loved most of them, but Talon's story comes to mind first, Night Embrace.
In Sieze Nght she really shakes things up with introducing Kat, Nick and his mothers' fate, killing off a few people. Whew!

Vane and Bride were great too. I love the way he treats her.

Of course Acheron was the perfect ending. I absolutely loved it!!

Celeste, Fang's story is coming out soon!

message 25: by Shazzy (new)

1034664 I can't wait for Fang's story! That should be a great read!

message 26: by Judi (new)

1324913 I loved all of them, but Acheron is like the Holy Grail of Kenyon's Books! It was absolutely amazing!

message 27: by Celeste (new)

1062992 I know, I am very excited to read Fang's book! I saw that on SK's website and about pee'd my pants! (sorry maybe TMI!) ;)

message 28: by Jess (new)

901103 I'm so happy that Fang's book is coming out. I also can't wait for Fury's book to come out. Every time I read Night play I keep reading Acheron's comment that Fury had already met his mate and he just can't remember. too funny.

message 29: by Melissa (new)

1686165 I loved One Silent Night! It just showed me once again why I love Kenyon so much. She made me fall in love with someone I couldn't stand in previous books, if I had to pick a fav DH book though it would have to be Vane with my Ash following close behind.

1339156 I think that Fury is going to end up with Bride's sister who he met at Thanksgiving. I may be way out in left field but she was the first person that came to mind when Ash said that he'd already met her.

message 31: by Jennifer (new)

1473549 I have to go with Night Play, and right behind it is Dance with the Devil. Loves me some Vane and Zarek! :)

message 32: by Gina (new)

985335 Kathy,

Yes ma'am, I do! I find there's a difference in her writing style when she's writing as K Mac. I also really like her B.A.D. series...

message 33: by Jess (new)

901103 Gina - I also like her B.A.D series, and I am upset that she hasn't written more.

I think I may try and read her other books written under her pen name

message 34: by Gina (new)

985335 Her novels written as Kinley MacGregor are pretty good as well, more historical but awesome!

If I remember correctly, she'll have another story of her B.A.D. series out within a year from now. Don't quote me on that, however. I'll have to look that up and will, just as soon as I have a moment to spare.

message 35: by Katdragon (last edited Nov 28, 2008 12:44PM) (new)

1733979 I love her dark hunter books I have all but the on about Ash but I have read it. I like Bride and Vane but then it was the first book in the dark hunter books that I read. I also liked Amanda and Kyrian's story.

message 36: by Gina (new)

985335 Can you imagine waking up to find yourself handcuffed to such a gorgeous stranger? Totally awesome!

message 37: by Katdragon (new)

1733979 It's a grate story on so many levels. I like the friendship Kyrian has with Julian and when the two of them saw each other the first time was very good. One thing I like about her books is the connect between players.

Sooo awesome men, touching story, strong women and funny lines. What more could you want?

message 38: by Gina (new)

985335 I totally agree with you, Kathy! Can't ask for better!

message 39: by Sam (new)

228501 I have to say I am a Kenyon minion. I am constantly amazed how she keeps the series fresh. I'm always excited when I pick up a new book, and worried that I will be disappointed that it will be stale . . . just a rewrite of a previous book and she has yet to disappoint me. As I read the new book I love that Kenyon ties in the past, present and plants the seeds for the future.

Couple of quick updates.

First, THANK YOU to everyone for the support on One Silent Night which
hit #1 last week on the New York Times bestseller list– it's #2 this
week (behind Dean Koontz). We're spending week two at #1 on
Publisher's Weekly. You guys ROCK!!

For those who haven't heard, we now have a twitter account. Mine is
http://twitter.com/sherrilynkenyon

Some of the characters also have theirs:

http://twitter.com/nickgautier
http://twitter.com/acheronp
http://twitter.com/dhstryker
http://twitter.com/akrissimi
http://twitter.com/surfsav
http://twitter.com/dhjaden
http://twitter.com/amazonsamia
http://twitter.com/dhbooks
http://twitter.com/_sanctuary

Hope to see some of you over there.

Other quick updates. Andrew is finished with all the art for the new
site– loud applause. He's done a tremendous job on it and it was no
easy feat. Scott is now busy on the programming which should be done
any minute now. Jane and Fuschia are at work with their flash mastery.
Just wait!! We're so close now I'm having dreams about it LOL.

Since I forgot about the surprise, I'll let it out of the bag now.
Zarek will make a cameo entrance in Dead After Dark which will be out
in less than two weeks. Sasha is in there too. That will be Fury's
story. You also get to meet Bride and Vane's son Trace who is a
playmate for Bob.

In February, we have Dream Warrior which will bring Zarek back in a
big way and you get to see his son Menoeceus/Bob. Jared AND Jaden are
both in this book as well as M'Adoc, Acheron, Tory and Simi. Zarek is
becoming a major player in the Dream-Hunter world and there are a lot
of changes that will happen in this book that directly tie into the
summer's release Bad Moon Rising where everything explodes. But be
warned, the book starts out in 2004 when Fang and Aimee first meet and
you get to witness their entire relationship as it develops– it's
another monster of a book and it will bring us up to the present.

And to answer some of the hundreds of emails we've gotten. The rumors
are TRUE. Nick will have his own series called the Chronicles of Nick
and it will start when Nick first meets Kyrian and Acheron. You'll get
to see a younger Simi, Tabitha, Amanda and their other sisters as well
as a younger Wren, Kyle, etc. I'm EXTREMELY excited to be working on
this and hope to have the release date for you soon.

OHHHHHHH and I almost forgot. Dream Warrior ushers in a new group of
the baddest Dark-Hunters Artemis ever created. They are being called
in to New Orleans from all over the world to combat the new Daimon
problem. Known as the Dogs of War (which tells you a lot about them),
they're introduced in all their glory.

Blade, Samia (an Amazon warrior who makes Zoe look timid), Cabeza
(yes, I know what it means and wait until you find out why he was
nicknamed this– and no, it's not the reason you're thinking), Tafari,
Kalidas, Raiden, and Ethon. I LOVE THESE GUYS!! OMG. Ethon is
hysterical– wait until you see when he meets Talon LMAO!! They play
hard and fight even harder. They're charged with saving the humans and
riding herd on Nick (no small challenge). It's going to be a FUN summer.

901103 OMG!! Those books are going to be crazy. I can't wait to read the stories about the dogs of war. sherrilyn's books never get old!!

message 42: by The Black Pearl (new)

1185550 Seize the Night. Valerius is by far my favorite Dark Hunter!

message 43: by Jess (new)

901103 Some of the dream hunters float in and out of the other stories and some have their own books. There are different types of characters involved in this series, the Oneroi are sort of the police and they monitor the behavior of all the others. Skoti are those who have turned rogue and basically prey on human's dreams

http://www.dailyinquisitor.com//dream/da...

the books out right now:

Dream Hunter - the main character is Arikos, he goes into human's dreams to help himself feel more. He finally finds a human who he can't seem to get enough of, and he willingly becomes human to spend some time with her. then all hell breaks loose

Dream Chaser - Xypher was condemmed to hell because he used his power to infiltrate dreams and caused many human males to go insane. Acheron's daughter needed help and cut a deal with Xypher - he now has one month to be free. He wants to kill the woman who sent him to hell. In the process he meets a woman (of course) who can see the dead.

Dream Warrior- is due out in 2009

1339156 Acheron - I don't even know where to begin with this book. It's by far my favorite in the Dark Hunter series and may be one of my all time favorite books period.

message 45: by Lori (new)

1681127 Lori - I had a hard time reading the first part of "Acheron" because it was such a heartbreaking story. I think I went through at least a half box of tissues!.

It is probably going to be my favorite - not just of Kenyon but of all the PN books I have read.

message 46: by Kenjii (new)

1125077 There is another Dream Hunter book Upon the Midnight Clear about a female Dream Hunter. I don't remember the details...

message 47: by Katdragon (new)

1733979 It sounds like another good year for my favorite
books.

message 48: by mlady_rebecca (new)

732709 "Acheron" is certainly the best of the Dark-Hunter books, thus far. I actually enjoyed the first half of the book. Sherrilyn should do more books with that deeper darker tone.

Of the other books, Talon's story is certainly one of the stand-outs for me. I think it's because I love Celtic history.

message 49: by Jess (new)

901103 I think Upon the Midnight Clear was my least favorite book out of the whole series. It was something about a female dream hunter that is trying to help a movie star or something like that. I thought it was really bad

message 50: by Kenjii (new)

1125077 mlady: If Sherrilyn ever decided to re-do the DH series and add an in-depth character profile to each DH like with Acheron I think I'd buy it...hmmm....I did enjoy reading Ash's childhood for the fact that the emotional connection was so deep for it just being a "fictional character in a book". 'Cause it never felt that way as I was reading it.

Jess: I agree with 10000%! LOL! I thought Upon the Midnight could have been told as a novella and been done. I read that in an evening just to be done with it.
