1303301 Gina,

Give Gaiman a try. I've yet to read one by him that I didn't love.

I'm currently reading The Winds of Marble Arch by Connie Willis. Some of the stories I've read before, in this collection of stories linked by theme; but I think she's great, so I'm thrilled to read (and reread) this 700 page book.

1918889 Gina,

I am on page 150, the style of writing is different from what I have been reading. I am enjoying the book a lot, but I have to concentrate more. The story has some twists and turns that I don't want to miss. The book is very thought provoking.

1918889 I just found out, because I had the book out on my desk. Neverwhere is one of Rev. John's favorite books.

message 354: by Colleen (new)

1918889 I have finished Neverwhere. Here is what I put as a review: "Neil Gaiman's world of London Below is well thought out and it sounds like a delightful place to visit. I really enjoyed this book, the humor just sneaks up and bites you. I would recommand this book to anyone looking for something different." If you would like to know more let me know.

I am now on page 180 of "The Spymaster's Lady" I am enjoying it but Kathleen is correct, I can't imagine a woman knowing and doing all the things that Annique does in this part of history.

message 355: by Amanda (new)

646913 I'm reading Nightkeepers by Jessica Andersen and listening to Sunshine by Robin McKinley.

message 356: by Gina (new)

985335 Thank you, Ladies! I'm going to have to check and see what Neil Gaiman books Coles has in stock, LOL!

I'm almost halfway through The Converging Mark of the Demon. George has done an excellent job so far at continuing the story from the first book. It's not a book that you can rush through, but very good none-the-less.

1918889 I am now reading "Cofessions of a Shopaholic" I can't stop laughing.

I love humorous books and this one is getting good reviews. I may pick it up in the future.

message 359: by Colleen (new)

1918889 I think you should, this book is a good way to get rid of stress. It is very silly, but we all think like Becky does sometimes.

message 360: by Gina (new)

985335 I'm borrowing it from my sister-in-law next month. She's got the series, LOL!

Fair trade if you as me - I got her hooked to the Twilight series, LOL! She popped by to borrow the second book from me last night - and the DVD.

Colleen: Have you read Kinsella's "Can you keep a secret?". When I was reading that I had a work start time of 7am and wakeup time of 5:30 but was up to 3am giggling to myself thru the whole book. I have to admit I'm not a Shopaholic fan but I love almost all of Kinsella's other work.

Nice cover!!!

message 363: by Colleen (new)

1918889 Sam, I will borrow "Can you keep a secret?" from the library. Most of Kinsella's books are great stress reducers.

I am on page 253 of "My Lord and Spymaster" I like this book much more than I liked the first in the series.

"

My daughter (8yo) saw it when I was adding the book to my shelves. Then she saw I had the book in my hands. She tilted her head as she looked at it, then out loud said: "Ewww! Why would he put a candy cane there? That's not right!"

And I sat there with a stupid grin on my face, thinking I wouldn't mind licking where that candy cane is... and a few other places. Yum-yum! I think she'll get it when she's older, LMAO!

message 368: by Brandie (new)

1132341 LMAO, Gina!!!

WendyT - how do you like Shiver? I really want to read that one.

message 369: by Gina (new)

985335 Going by the synopsis of Shiver, I'm I guessing right when I say it must be a YA novel?

message 370: by Brandie (new)

1132341 Think so. I had a Borders coupon and couldn't resist - I stopped after work tonight and picked up a copy.

message 371: by Gina (new)

985335 LOL, I'm like that. I took my mom's 25% off in-store purchase coupon for Chapters right out of her hand this afternoon, LOL! With Chapters, there's an avid reader card called iRewards. By being an iReward member, you can have 5% off when ordering online and 10% in store. My mom and I share an iRewards card - we split the renewal every year. But the card's under her name, so she gets all the privileges - meanwhile, I'm the one who spends at Coles every Friday. You can bet your last buck I'll be going to Coles very soon, LOL!

message 372: by Brandie (new)

1132341 LOL, nice! Its hard to resist a good deal :)

message 373: by Colleen (new)

1918889 I have finished "My Lord and Spy Master" I am now on page 188 of Julie & Julia by Julie Powell. Yes it is just as bad as the movie. There is less of Julia Childs and more of Julie Powell. What could be worse? LOL

I really enjoyed Shiver, I gave it 4 star rating. Looking forward to the second book in this series, which is 'Linger" which comes out in July 2010.

1661554 What I hope (ha!!) to read very soon:

If You Dare - Kresley Cole (September '09 BotM)

Covet - J. R. Ward (October '09 BotM)

Nightkeepers - Jessica Andersen (October '09 BotM)

Can't Stand the Heat - Louisa Edwards (Novemeber '09 BotM)

I have read, but need to post my review of Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs - Molly Harper (November '09 BotM). Wonderful book with an average Jane earthy sort of humor.

Host of personal and professional issues have drastically reduced my reading time. Things are starting to settle down and I hope to return to reading and reviewing in a more timely manner very shortly.

2933234 Hi All,

The one book that I am or was reading was "The Witches of Eastwick" by John Updike. I saw the movie version from way back and I loved it. I had always meant to read the book after that. When ABC television network came up with the series I watched a couple of episodes of it. I decided that I had better get the book because I felt that I was missing something.

Well, guess what? I wasn't missing a thing. ABC has already canceled the show and so am I with the book. Now I can concentrate on a Terry Brooks book that I am reading and really enjoying. After that or before I'm finished the Brooks book, I have a A Rhys Bowen murder mystery on hold and a Jennifer Chiaverini Elm Creeks Quilts book on hold also.

I have too many books on my shelf at home to mention but other to say that I'm set for my fall and winter reads.

Happy reading all!

DCMerkle

1303301 So "The Witches of Eastwick" was disappointing, Donna?
I haven't read the book, but had high hopes for the series "Eastwick" with Paul Gross (Darryl Van Horn) in it. He can be a very good actor, as well as fine lookin', but they didn't give him much of a palette of colors to work with... Also, unfortunately, I thought, the women were written and acted as typical empty-headed tv women...

I'm now reading Lullaby for Morons a novel about the first murder of a teacher in the US in 1914 in Upstate New York.Lullaby For Morons

Maybe the book was too scene intensive for me. It just seemed that Updike spent too much time on describing scenery and how it affected the character. He just went over board with it. There was more description then dialouge between the characters. I know it was all about setting the mood and tone, but after awhile I wanted to hear what the charater/s were saying.

985335 Started and finished The Return by Sharon Sala. Not bad ... wasn't one of her best, IMHO, but pretty good.

I'm only a couple of chapters in of Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs. Had me smirk and chuckle in a couple of places already. Wondering how the rest of the book is going to go.
