369169 So to update you on the above post:::

I have read and LOVED HELP! A Bear is Eating Me!!! It was absolutely hilarious. Check out my review on it if you are interested. A comfortable 129 pages, a Holden Caufield--if-he-were-to-turn-into-a-drug-addicted-adult-like main character....

Totally worth the money for a signed copy off his site!

Mykle Hansen is having a special deal on his novel HELP! A Bear is Eating Me!. I am anxiously awaiting my copy in the mail. I have been meaning to get my hands on this thing for ages, but it's hard to find in the the stores since it is an independant publisher.

Shipping and handling is a little pricy, but he will personalize the autograph and even draw you a picture ... I will let you know what I think once I get it.. In the meantime, look into it for yourself!

2490196 Bernadette SimpsonBernadette SimpsonAn ABC Escapade through EgyptAn ABC Escapade through EgyptThis is amazing, fantastic book! I can't say enough about the content and the illustrations. I wish I found it when my children were smaller. I would recommend it especially to PARENTS OF GIFTED CHILDREN! You can read it with gifted kids as early as 2 years of age! Parents whose children love DK Eyewitness books should note this book and the author

1096765 I highly recommend that everyone in this group check out C.S. Marks and her Elfhunter trilogy. Her writing is superb and has gained her quite a following. Even if you are not a fan of fantasy but enjoy reading superlatively written books with interesting characters then you really should do yourself a favor and get your hands on Mrs. Marks' books.

The suggested reading order of the Elfhunter trilogy is:

Elfhunter A Tale Of Alterra, The World That Is

Fire-Heart A Tale of Alterra, The World That Is

Ravenshade A Tale of Alterra, The World that Is

I hope everyone enjoys reading them as much as I have.

2230868 Authors on here to recommend
In the Young Adult /Christian category would be Donita K. PaulShe has a series with dragons and such in it that is just enchanting. My son read them all and has passed them on to me and I have even read several so far and have to admit they are really good even though not Technically a Kid anymore
Paranormal Romance/Vamps category would be Amanda Ashley Been reading hers for years. The books are easy reads and not so graphic or smutty you have to read with your eyes half closed
Historical Fiction category Sandra GullandShe has a great trilogy about Josephine Bonaparte

2230868 Diane "Candy" wrote: My sister Dawn Thompson. She wrote a bit of everything, Historical Suspense, Historical Paranormal, Historical Romance. She was a very beautiful writer

I have read many of Dawn Thompsons books and they were all really good.

2273635 Oh my gosh, I love Sara Shepard. I picked up her book, Pretty Little Liars when I was working in the library. We had just received it from a patron and I loved it. For my birthday I bought more of the series. I can't wait to get a chance to read them.

369169 Welcome to my group JJ.
Being new to Goodreads, I am assuming you arent too certain of the rules and guidelines each group has.

If you take a moment, please read my rules and guidelines under the Rules/Important Announcement folder. I outline how I like to see new members participate within the group there.

This is not actually the proper spot for you to post your stuff. This spot is where my members tell each other of the goodreads authors they have read and enjoyed.

I would like to see you post an introduction thread under the newbies folder, and then get involved in the groups current threads before posting information about your work. We tend to be more open minded to members who share with us, and get to know us before promoting their stuff.

Justs a kindly heads up.
Thanks.

1121405 Recently I read three fabulous books by Neil Gaiman, one by Lisa See, one by Jennifer Crusie and one by the talented Ed Linsky. Great fun.

message 106: by JC (new)

1608820 Jeremy Robinson is my favorite. I'm currently trying to get through Rai Aren's novel. Its a great story.

I hope to make this list one day. :-)

2462056 I've been very pleased to find Neil Gaiman here. Love his books!!

I also recently got Luthiel's Song on Kindle for a steal at .99 cents and loved it. The author's name is Robert Fanney.

message 104: by Katie (new)

1283225 I just finished Orange Mint and Honey: A Novel by Carleen Brice on audio and really enjoyed it. She's a GoodReads author!

message 103: by Gloria (new)

1262346 I am currently reading Standing Still A Novel by Kelly Simmons. I am thoroughly enjoying the slowly unraveling story. I am fascinated by the protaganist's panic disorder and how she at the same time is crippled by it and unafraid of genuinely frightening things. I have not reached the end yet, but so far I find the book quietly surprising and engrossing.

message 102: by Dara (new)

210372 One of my favorite authors is Jodi Picoult and she can also be found on GR.

message 101: by Kasa (new)

2345554 Colum McCann's "Let The Great World Spin" is one of the best books I've read this year so far. Evocative in spirit, original in style. Will formally review later today.

Nophoto-f-25x33 Eric Wentz
Piercing the Veil
Piercing the Veil

I strongly recommend GoodReads author Eric Wentz (Piercing the Veil). His debut novel received the Editor's Choice Award and Reader's Choice Award and was an intense read and manifested his strong linguistic capabilities and military and historical knowledge. Anyone who loves mystery, suspense, history, military, and embraces your love for family will love this novel. I look forward to more from this author.

1410084 Robert Brown Fulford

I might be biased though, he is my husband. ;)

I have been looking through the list and I have a lot of GR authors on my To-Read list. I have to go through and sort which ones are which.

Joy ~ I'm going to check out Kimberly Huff. Thanks for the recommendation!!

837540 ReadSecret Son by Laila Lalami for First Reads and really enjoyed it. She has a very stark writing style which I appreciate.

1326635 I recommend checking out GR author Michelle Richmond. I've read two of her novels, The Year of Fog and No One You Know, and loved both of them. She's a fantastic story teller. :)

61179 MissMegan--yeah, I got a copy of that book. ^_^
And the author, Dee Marie, is really really nice. :)

message 95: by Dorie (new)

1412216 For mystery lovers I would recommend a book by new author Bryan Gruley, Starvation Lake A Mystery. A disgraced newspaper reporter in Chicago returns home as editor of the local paper of his small town. Great first book.

I read The Alchemist and thought the story was pretty good, but way to religious for my tastes and I think that's why I'll never pick up another by Coelho.

message 89: by Pamela (new)

837540 Whoops! I totally forgot one!

Nahid Rachlin who wrote Persian Girls (memoir). She will respond to your messages as well.

This GR thing has been great in that capacity. I really like being able to contact an author and tell him/her how much I've enjoyed their work.

message 88: by Joy Marie (new)

2072567 Check out Kimberly Huff. She's only got one book out right now, but it's pretty good chic lit if you want a lite read!

message 86: by Pamela (new)

837540 I have four:

Sara's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay
The Rich Part of Life by Jim Kokoris
Night of Flames by Doublas W. Jacobson
Still Alice by Lisa Genova

All were great reads. What I liked about these authors was I had sent a message to them via GR and they all responded. de Rosnay was probably the most gracious and I think may call into your book club if you ask (not positive though). And actually I did not contact Kokoris, he sent me a message thanking me for liking his book--that was nice. A friend told me that it must be great for authors to hear directly from a reader how their book has affected him/her--I hope so, I intend to make it a practice of contacting them from now on (only the ones I like though).

1394632 If you like Chris Bohjalian, you have to check out Midwives. It could be a bit creepy to read if you are pregnant, using a midwife and planning on a home birth. Very good book!!
My next book to read (after I finish Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult) is Before You KNow Dindness by Bohjalian, which I'm really looking forward to reading.

1413603 I just read a series of YA vampire books by Serena Robar, and found out she was a goodreads author when I added them to my list. If you like this genre, they're funny and a great light read! They are Fangs 4 Freaks, Braced 2 Bite, and Dating 4 Demons.

message 78: by Nancy (new)

763271 I recently finished Kate Evans' For the May Queen. It is told from the perspective of 17-year-old Norma Rogers, who is entering college and discovering herself.

It is a highly addictive, fast read, with happy and sad moments that left me thinking about the joys and struggles of my own youth.

I enjoyed all the 80's cultural references and the well-drawn, quirky characters.

Highly recommended!

603382 I really enjoyed reading Gone by Michael Grant. It's an YA awesome book! There is going to be a sequel sometime this year called Hunger A Gone Novel! Which I'm really looking forward to! :-)

I have some mixed feelings about the book, but overall I enjoyed The Gargoyle and am very glad I stuck with it.

Many people seemed to be disturbed by the graphic details of the narrator's accident and recovery. I actually found all the medical stuff rather fascinating. What bothered me was I felt beat over the head with how much the narrator was suffering. As Robin said earlier, it was too over the top. The hook that finally drew me in was the appearance of Marianne. Her stories drew me in so much that I managed to overlook many flaws.

I'd definitely read more of Davidson's work.

1774301 Over at the Constant Reader group there's been a lot of discussion of a terrific new book by goodreads author Jonathan Lopez: The Man Who Made Vermeers: Unvarnishing the Legend of Master Forger Han van Meegeren. He's on a book tour now speaking at museums. One of the Constant Readers went to his lecture yesterday at the National Gallery in DC and raved about it - and about him! I'm going to try to catch him at the MFA in Boston.
