Stephanie I have some of the saddest news of my life, a couple of days ago, I learned that they do indeed intend to burn our eyes by proceeding to film The Sea of Monsters movie. It is scheduled to release March 27th, 2013.

Go here for the article.

(The following in quotation marks are clips from the article in the link above.)

Clip #1: "Percy Jackson fans will be happy to know that the demigod from Camp Half-Blood will be returning to theaters in Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters"

Response: Mike Macauley, the good majority of Percy Jackson fans are not happy to know that the second book in our beloved series is next on the Tear Great Books Apart list. Do you remember Eragon at all? They did worse with the The Lightning Thief than they did that and now they're going to attempt The Sea of Monsters?

Clip #2: "Rumors have been swirling around the fate of the Percy Jackson series in theaters after the release of the first movie, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, didn’t perform as well as some had hoped."

Response: Didn't perform as well as some had hoped? You could say that if you were trying to put it nicely, not that they deserve that.

Clip #3: "The first film’s director, Chris Columbus (of Harry Potter fame), is unconfirmed for the second flick."

Response: We don't want him.

Clip #4: "Fans of the book series have been worried about future Percy films for a while, ever since discovering the substantial plot changes in the first movie. Do you think they can continue on with the series given what they left out or changed in the first film? Are you still excited for the second film?"

Response: There's no possble recovery after what they did. A total reboot is needed along with a new set of actors.

Alyssa | 4 comments It's a good movie if you haven't read the book. But I've read the whole series, and I think the movie kind of sucks compared to the book.

Antje གརས པཅ Parker | 93 comments Compared to the book, yes

Compared to some other movies based on books, IT'S AMAZING!

Antje གརས པཅ Parker | 93 comments You really shouldn't expect much from movies based on books

Go Places (goplaceswithbooks) | 30 comments Chris Columbus screwed up.
PJ could become as big a franchise as HP if it weren't for the stupid script.

Alyssa | 4 comments ya, me agree

message 10: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie After Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, I think we can expect a movie to be somewhat close to the book. Besides, Chris Columbus did awesome with the first Harry Potter movie. Why does he and the script writers feel the need to screw up PJ?

Totally agree, Nha.

message 13: by Go Places (new)

Go Places (goplaceswithbooks) | 30 comments Yes! Logan Lerman is a cutie.
Have y'all heard? The new director for SoM is Thor Freudendal (directed Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies). Do you think he might make it better?

I think Chris Columbus didn't personally care about PJ as he did HP. It showed.

Antje གརས པཅ Parker | 93 comments I love Diary of a Wimpy Kid! I hope SoM will be as good as DoaWK is

No. He's too old. And doesn't look anything like Percy.

message 16: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Naw, I don't particularily like Logan Lerman.

I hope a different director helps.....

Totally agree, Adriana.

I kind of beg to differ there. Look at the Harry Potters--and I'm told Lord of the Rings is awesome.

I just get kind of embarrassed. Like, I watched it with my parents and I think my dad had high expectations for it, because he actually liked TLT. The book, I mean. (He hated SoM) And he was majorly disappointed with the movie. So was I. So was my mother. ARGH, WE WERE ALL DISAPPOINTED WITH THE MOVIE. PHOOEEEYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 36: by Ellie , QE3, the Oh so Great and Amazing Opera and Classical Lover (new)

Ellie | 15153 comments Mod
Well, my friend watched the movie BEFORE she read the book, and she and her friends love it. -.-))) She's read the book now, all the books except SoN, actually, and really likes them, but she still likes the movie. I think it actually depends if you see it first. My grandma's nurse-thing, her son read the books and hated the movie, but she herself saw it before she read TLT and liked it. :/ Go figure.

Antje གརས པཅ Parker | 93 comments I liked the movie, it was well scripted and the actors were good

message 38: by Lord Percy (new)

Lord Percy | 1263 comments Again, if you haven't read the book, you would like it! I, for one, didn't like the movie at all. Why didn't Chris Columbus try to make the Percy Jackson movie a success like Harry Potter? I don't know. I wish he did, though.

Antje གརས པཅ Parker | 93 comments I read the book first

message 40: by Lord Percy (new)

Lord Percy | 1263 comments Oh, well, I guess people do have their own opinions. Still, a majority of people don't seem to like the movie, and I think that was an understatement.

Lord Percy | 1263 comments A change in the plot is disturbing, true! Still even more disturbing is the fact that they're old . . . I still can't get over it!

Logan Lerman is cute but he doesnt make a good Percy.

The movie was terrible both compared to the book and in general.
Compared to the book they made way to many changes and the characters are wrong.

In general the special effects were lame and the plot doesnt make a whole lot of sense.

I was so excited when i found out that Chis Columbus would be involved but was incredibly disappointed with the result.

Percy Jackson could be just as big as Harry Potter if theyd just give the actual story a chance.

Im not sure im going to be watching the next movie. I just cant figure out how they intend to fix all the plot holes they created in the first movie.
