Book Crushes
So, many of us may have crushes on actors etc... but what character from a book has made you go to mush inside? I mean before the book was made into the movie - and how do you picture them?
Y.T. from Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash. So adorable. So tough. I wanted her as my girlfriend in high school.
Jamie from Outlander - tall, muscular, lots of red hair, and that Scottish accent that drives me crazy!!!!
Fiona - What a fun question!
Edward Cullen from the Twilight series. I've never wanted to be bitten by a vampire so bad before in my life! And I won't try to describe him because my words simply wouldn't do justice to the image that exists in my mind...He could suck my blood any time he wanted to! :)
Roux from Chocolat. Very sexy...of course I have to admit that since seeing the movie I always picture Johnny Depp. Need I say more?
Joe Kavelier is pretty hot. He knows magic. Also, Stephen Daedalus from Joyce, and you'll all hate me for this, but Yossarian. For authors, I'm going to go with Twain and Cortazar.
Will from Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials for sure. Oh, and maybe Ron Weasley from Harry Potter.
At this point it's so difficult to separate the book characters from the movie characters, but my crush is on Snape from Harry Potter. But I really think that is because of how Alan Rickman portrays him and his voice. *drools*
Faramir from The Lord of the Rings. A courageous warrior that preferred learning to fighting, with the wisdom, strength, and humanity to disobey edicts for the greater good.
Jasper Hale from Twilight. Edward is a tad bit too controlling for me. I wouldn't be able to put up with him in real life.
Jasper <3.
His Grace, the Duke of Ankh, Commander Sir Samuel Vimes. For those who don't know who he is, look him up. For those who do, I don't need to explain.
I'd say Jack Reacher from Lee Child's books, I picture him as Val Kilmer, slightly younger than he is now and a little more slight.
Legolas from Lord of the Rings (pictured him pretty much as Bloom depicted him, but a little more...well, he sings in the book), Frodo, Peter Pan (if he was 'older' but never aged), Dally (I think that was his name) from The Outsiders. Probably more but I can't remember them.From my own books: Reye (aka Lex Luthor but he's nice and only like 20...), Rinec the Lsai (bald, looks pretty much like Riddick from the Chronicles of Riddick but younger), Taren the Shadok (black hair, pale skin, pale blue eyes), Seff from AngelWood (dark hair, pale skin, eyes flash red when angry otherwise they're brown), Dion Scodra (dark hair, red eyes). All of them are 'tough guys' but really sad because I killed off most of their family...not on purpose. It just kind of happened, and I went with it.
I love this question! There are so many...
Definately Edward Cullen! Joe Morelli and Ranger from the Plum series, no doubt.
I fell in love with Alex Cross in the book series and was so bummed when they had Morgan Freeman play him in the movies...too old.
In a motherly way I love Odd Thomas.
Agree, Lynlee, I thought Morgan was too old for Alex Cross, I had pictured him differently, younger, buffer, etc.
Alex Cross, I love Morgan Freeman!!
I am also loving Miles Roby from EMPIRE FALLS. He seems so sweet.
I can only ever think of two always. One is Sirius Black from Harry Potter and Howl from Howl's Moving Castle and it's sequels (though I'm not sure if I could ever put up with him in real life). Oh, and there's Iggy from the Maximum Ride series, it would be better if he were older though.
LynLee4 I second Odd Thomas. Something about that guy that just screams HUG ME sometimes huh?
I fell in love with Dexter Morgan from the Dexter series.... it also helps that I get to watch him every Sunday nite now too....
Jessica-- I have to say that I completely agree with you about Snape/Alan Rickman! I think my first book crush was on Rhett Butler from Gone With the Wind. And after that the only one that stands out is Mr. Darcy, but I am sure there have been others...
Another Edward fan here too...
and oddly enough... Snape too because of Alan Rickman? Have you seen him in Sense and Sensibility? He makes the most divine Colonel in that story. I just want to whack Marianne upside the head for ever faling in love with that young cad in the first place. Willoughby is creepy.
Jessalina, I love Howl too. He is just so, so so so love-ely! Though the cartoon movie didn't do anything for me... possibly because it was a cartoon and developing crushes cartoon characters would just be weird. :/ Like book-crushes aren't but er...Snape is another one... I loved the character before the movie. He's the bad guy you want to fix. But then with Alan Rickman's silkily sexy voice Snape took on a different kinda meaning. He is also probably the entire reason why my Mum agreed eventually to read Harry Potter (and then become obsessed with it.)
Mr Thornton from North and South, though that was helped by Richard Armitage considerably!
Christopher Chant/Chrestomanci from the Diana Wynne Jones books.
Quinn from Eva Ibbotson's Morning Gift.
Mr George from Bleak House (helped considerably by Hugo Speer.)
But then with Alan Rickman's silkily sexy voice Snape took on a different kinda meaning.Fiona, I couldn't have said it better myself! I won't lie, even in real life, I've always had a thing for teachers. Especially the ones who act like jerks but you want to believe that it's all just an act. Which is why I ALWAYS believed that Snape was a good guy, even from the very beginning.
Jamie from the Outlander series.
Joe Morelli from the Stephanie Plum series.
Dirk Pitt (in my mind he looks like Tom Sellick)
Aside from Edward Cullen and Joe Morelli and Ranger, my newest crush is Gabe Ortiz from the Benni Harper series by Earlene Fowler. He sounded pretty scrumptious in this last book! LOL
Lord John Grey from Gabaldon's Outlander series. (Sorry, all you Jamie lovers!) So what if he's gay? He's fictionally anyway. He's just such a good person -- er, character.
Lynlee and Lori, I know what you mean about Odd Thomas. Koontz created a great character in him. (By the way, have you read the graphic novel prequel "In Odd We Trust"? If so, what did you think of it? Other than wishing it were longer, I enjoyed it and thought it was well written) Sorry, end of hijack.
As for as the Evanovich books, I'll take Ranger any day. The rest of you can fight over Morelli.
I adored Jamie from Outlander,and yes Lord Grey was wonderful as well.Also Stu from The Stand.I just loved his character.
I did not know that the graphic novel had been released. I might have to look into it now. Im not a big comic book fan... hmmmm...
I've never had a crush on a fictional character, I always thought that made me cool, but I feel lame now haha.I want a fictional crush too!
Great question and have had a crush on Dexter as well.Also Eric the Vampire from the Charlaine Harris Books.Sirius Black.Erick from Phantom of The Opera.
I liked Stu from King's The Stand too. Although that might have been influenced by the dreamy Gary Sinise. I knew he was in the miniseries so he was my Stu before I even read it. I know I'd have loved Stu anyway though, he's such a great guy. So was Larry and Nick. :'(
I was crushin on Stu long before the mini series and though I hadn't pictured anyone remotely like Gary Sinese I was ok with the choice (he is wonderful,ernest and honest looking,what's not to love?!)Actually,Gary Sinese starring in Of Mice and Men had me crushing a little on George as well.
Gary Sinise turned my head as Lt Dan in Forest Gump - not cos I had a crush at that point but you know - he's such a good actor the character always stood out. Developed the crush a few months ago after re-watching it. I always noticed him in anything he did - such as Mice of Men, Apollo 13 - strange how some people just stick out. It was only really later that my attentions turned to other aspects of his er, screen presence. ;DHe didn't look like the Stu in the book I felt (not that I paid any attention to that) but character wise he was perfect.
I agree,and I loved him in both Apollo 13 and Forest Gump as well.There's just something about him....
Ranger from the Stephanie Plum books;Lazarus Long from Heinlein (yes, I know he's often a jerk, but a good one);
Cesar Millan, can't help it, I know he's not fictional, but the crush will have to be;
I'm a Jacob fan from Meyer's books, but will wait for him to get a bit older. I like Edward with Bella, I wouldn't want to interfere *ha, ha* ;
Masterharper Robinton from Pern/Anne McCaffrey, and also F'Nor;
Most of the men in Nora Robert's books, she's great at writing really likable guys;
Jean-Claude from Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake books is awfully sexy, in a almost-too-pretty way;
Doyle in Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry series is just plain hot;
from HP, I prefer Professor Lupin.
LOL Catherine- I agree Jean-Claude should stay away from the lace. I think Richard is the one who could wear anything he pleased and still be smokin'!
And as for Merry Gentry's men... I think Frost does the trick nicely too.
My daughter is in love with Sirius Black. I never cared for him much because he bullied Snape.
Good Lord! What can I say that hasn't already been said.... So there is first and foremost always going to be Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. There is just something about him that makes you believe from the get go that there is just something so much more about him.
Okay, so although Mr. Darcy will always hold the first true book crush spot in my heart, there will always be Legolas and Aragorn from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and Older Peter (As in High King Peter) in the Chronicles of Narnia.
I more recently decided on Lee Scoresby from His Dark Materials Trilogy, but most likely because Sam Elliott played him in the first movie (The Golden Compass) and there is just something about big dimples and a deep voice.
My huge book crush right now?
Most definitely Edward Cullen from the Twilight series.... However I don't think I need to say anymore than that seeing as almost every thread from here on up has something to say about his eternal hotness. :)
