1676090 ?Becoming Alice A Memoir

Hi Heather,
I stopped by to wish you and your followers Happy Holidays!

I meant to do this about a month ago but "my life" got away from me in the meantime: I'd love to get my book read/reviewed on your website. Is that possible?

Cheers, Alice

2234836 I have a bunch of reviews, contests, and chatter about books on my blog! I would love for you to swing by and "talk book."

Happy Reading!

1252420 I must be one of those people who is not active. I just love to read the threads but I don't post anything. I will do better next time.

message 114: by Alice (new)

1676090 I am in the wrong folder! Sorry.

message 113: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

369169 Alice, I am little thrown by your question too. This is the largest, most active group here on Goodreads. How can there not be enough posts for you?

For the record, this folder that you post in is just for my announcements and rules for the group. It wasnt intended for actual posting. Thats what the other folders and threads are for....

message 112: by Cindy (new)

2493714 Alice, there are hundreds of threads here at TNBBC (probably thousands of posts since you last checked?). Honestly, there's so much going on here I can't keep up with all of it! Make sure you start with the homepage.

Olive Kitteridge is one of our picks for this month. We're discussing it here:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2336...

Here's a long thread with people discussing "The Road":
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4462...

You can discuss any book you please by starting a new thread here (make sure it doesn't already have a thread):

1109068 "So few posts in this group"????

:::scratches head:::

There is a thread, by the way, about books we're currently reading. A fairly busy one, at that.

message 110: by Alice (new)

1676090 How come there are so few posts in this group? I haven't been here for a while because I've been travelling all over the place and had no time for the computer. However, I did get a couple of books read. so, even though I'm an author and would love to do some self-promoting, I'm going to tell you about the books I've read: One was "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. I's been made into a movie, so I thought it would be a great book. Wrong! Interesting concept but weak on story line and often draggy. The other one is "Olive Kitteredge" by Elizabeth Strout. Good book! I can see why it won a Pulitzer prize. I'm just finishing it now, but can tell you the author knows how to draw a character. You can almost identify someone you know like the person she describes. It's a great read.

Next time I'll tell you about my book. Okay?

message 109: by Maha (new)

2843087 thanks Lori....(:

message 108: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

369169 Maha, thanks for reading the rules! That says alot about you and wanting to do the right thing. Being active here would mean participating more often in the threads, (more than two or three posts), however you are heading down the right road.

Look forward to seeing more of you out there !!!

message 107: by Maha (new)

369169 Stephanie, that was an excellent summary for Lynn, thanks!

1702211 No problem!

Nophoto-f-25x33 Thanks Stephanie!

message 102: by Stephanie (new)

1702211 Lynn-

As you may have seen (maybe that's why it's overwhelming?), TNBBC is a biiig group with many different facets. It's primarily a place for book lovers to get together and talk books, yes, but we also talk music, pets, whatever strikes our fancy. And yes, there is a section of the group that is reserved for active members (key words) to promote books or groups that they want us to know about, but it's a small section. It's meant as a service to the members who are here participating in the other threads. Lori (the moderator of this group) has broken the group's page into different sections to make it easy to navigate. If you're mostly looking to share books and get recommendations, I would suggest checking out the "What are you reading?" thread under Me and My Books and then venturing into the "General Book Related Banter" and "Wanna Discuss This Novel?" sections. You can also check out "Group Read Discussions" for discussions on books we've chosen as monthly reads.

Hope that helps! You're not lost, just in the wrong section. :)

message 101: by Lynn (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 Ok, I must be in the wrong book club. I thought this was THE NEXT BEST BOOK CLUB. I'm NOT an author and have nothing to hype but the books I read by authors that I come across, not shamelessly hyped by accident in a group that's suppose to be talking about the book they're reading not self promoting. Can anyone tell me how to get to that group? I'm new as of two days ago and I'm apparently lost.

My apologies to you and to the book club. I now realize that I have been guilty of spamming by making a post about my first-published book within your group. In the future, I shall simply ask fellow members if they would like to engage in a discussion of the book. Hope you will forgive me.

Happy reading!

message 96: by Lynn (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 I'm new to this group and I've got nothin to promote! I LOVE to read and have a lot of time to do it, so I need lots of good book suggestions. I just finished SHANTARAM by Gregory David Roberts and loved it! Before that was AWAIT YOUR REPLY by Dan Chaon and enjoyed that too.

369169 No need to remove it (as it would appear that I was talking to myself - ha!) but please reach out in the other threads and participate within the group.

message 93: by Robert (new)

2716551 No, I'm actually sorry, you're right and I realized that after posting. I'm currently updating my profile and reviewing a few of my favourite books on here. If you'd like I'll go ahead and remove my previous comment. Glad to be a part of the community though, didn't mean to come off the way I did. Just noticed a few other commentators making reference to their works and thought it would be alright to do the same.

message 92: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

369169 Hi Robert, welcome to the group and the site.. as I see you just joined us both very recently.

I'm a bit confused as to your post, tho. You have placed it in the rules/guidelines thread for how and when to post about your stuff, yet I can't be too sure that you've actually read the rules/guidelines at all.

If you had, you would see that I am asking all new members to actively participate here within the group PRIOR to posting about thier work.

We like to get to know the authors a bit before hearing about their books. If you can't be bothered to get to know us and let us get to know you, and only joined to promote your book, we are going to find it difficult to think you really care about our feedback, and are only looking to serve yourself.

Just a friendly heads-up, to review the rules before you post again. Thanks!

message 91: by Robert (new)

2716551 Well, as for struggling writers go, I'm not quite there yet. Wrote my first novel very recently and wanted to share it with the world. Unfortunately I'm no Stephen King or late Dostoevsky to have everyone know about me and read every word I type as soon as it hits paper. I do have copies of my novel out on Amazon.com entitled "Civilized Savages in the Mad World" about a lonely man on a path of discovery through modern-day USA. A sociopath with a mid-life crises, you may say. I've had my professor read it and even he had to put it down at times, telling me that it was too intense in some points. Aloneness, nihilism, finding your place on earth can all be seen in the themes of the novel. I would love to hear any feedback on the novel and any review is much appreciated. If you'd like to contact me, you may indeed do so through the following link: http://www.civilizedsavages.com/contact-...

I'd love to hear from any readers or just anyone who'd like to talk about books and first publications. Cheers and I'm here on this site to stay for a while. Liking the environment here.

1676090 Becoming Alice A Memoir

Hope I'm putting this in the right place ....

I just checked the rankings for my Amazon tags. Happy to tell you that Becoming Alice, A Memoir is #1 in two categories, Historical Non-fiction and Adversity, and it is #2 in the Categories of Self-esteem and Adversity. Yeah!

If I got it wrong tell me where ti put it. Thanks.

2531490 Spammers Hell sounds scary. I'm going to try and stay out of there though it's going to be hard as I can't figure out which folder is which :-)

1676090 Hi Fellow Members of this Group,

Just wanted to say that I'm glad to know I'm not the only one to get everything wrong all the time. this should make for a fun group.Cheers, Alice

message 81: by Siobhan (new)

2582136 Hi there, am new to the group, am the author of The Penance List - a shocking, tension feuled thriller, with a smattering of blood, sex and humour. Check out opening chapters on www.thepenancelist.com

I worked in the naughty worlds of modelling, rock music, football and horseracing, so have a host of authentic storylines to fill my books with. After 10yrs of slog I have finally published it and there is now talk of adapting it to film. OMG!!

Think 'hannibal lecter' meets 'basic instinct' meets 'sex and the city' with knobs on.

CAUTION: shut the bedroom door and read alone.

message 80: by Alice (new)

1676090 Yes, I hope so, too.

message 79: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

369169 Hi Alice, that is a nice heads up! Thanks, and hopefully one our members may land a copy :)

1676090 I just wanted everyone to know that my book, Becoming Alice, has just been listed in the Goodreads Giveaway program. It will be live until September 9th. So go on over and request a signed copy.

Good luck, Alice

message 75: by G.H. (new)

1974140 Geez ... I hope that wasn't me. (I'm old, my memory stinks)

message 74: by Jessica (new)

1020084 Hey Lori, have you seen the pics some spammer uploaded into the group's photo page?!? That just seems pretty low, even for a spammer...all to promote the one book he has listed. And guess what? It's the book he wrote! Shocking, I know.

Just wanted to give you a heads up!
