669573 Welcome Carol!

Drop in on anything you feel comfortable with or create a topic we don't have that you would like to talk about.

Who do you like to read the most? Have a favorite romantic suspense? Anything. (We have a folder for chatter--none book related). ;-)

If there is an author you would like to talk about, please feel free to add him/her to the "Let's Talk About It" folder.

We're pretty flexible here...

Again, welcome!

1610104 Hello, I'm Arch. I love meeting and talking to new people. I love talking about sexy, sassy heroes. I don't read books about vampires, werewolves, etc. Only humans. I am not into erotic books either.

669573 Hi Arch! Welcome to the Romantic Suspense Group, too! There's been a lot of recent activity in the Suzanne Brockmann folder...

message 6: by Arch (new)

1610104 Thanks for the welcome Kathrynn, I have checked out the Suzanne Brockmann thread. Thanks.

message 7: by Laurie (new)

838527 Interesting to know, I just purchased Forbidden by Suzanne Brockman in audio format. I'm currently reading Sam's Creed by Sarah McCarty. Have been on a western historical kick here recently, but will probably divert back to Romance or romantic suspense or something after I finish Sam's Creed.

message 8: by Arch (new)

1610104 Laurie, I don't listen to audio books. I know that a lot of people do. I like to snuggle up to a book. Which one do you find to be better - book or audio book?

message 9: by Laurie (new)

838527 Arch,

Well, I like all forms. I am an editor at Black Velvet Seductions so I read lots of manuscripts. I recently purchased a Kindle and I love it. It's my favorite method of reading simply because I can carry lots on it and it is comfortable and easy to hold and the print size can be increased when my eyes get tired.

As an editor I never know at what point I will make a publishing decision...so I may read three pages of a manuscript and decide not to publish it. On the other hand I may read three chapters before it falls to bits. This means that I never know how many projects I need to have with me to fill the time I have for reading. With the Kindle there are a lot there on the device and I can work through them easily and smoothly.

I do still buy and read paper books as well but some publishers use very small text and it is a strain to read it. I prefer the Kindle to paper for this reason.

I love audio books because audio on my MP3 player is mobile. Most of the time I can sit in one spot and read is spent reading submissions and editing those I have accepted for publication. If I had to wait to read an already published book until I had a lull with no submissions I would probably not get to read many.

Audio books allow me to multi-task...to listen to great books while I drive, do errands, and clean the house. I love, love, love audio books for that. With the right book I can almost look forward to housework. :-)

A lot of people on groups and forums that I belong to talk about ebooks vs. paper books vs. audio books like one must choose one format for their reading and give up all the others. That's really not the case. One can choose a variety of formats to fit reading into their daily life. Audio books are a format that allows me to have a lot more pleasure reading time than I would otherwise have. I love that about them. I buy lots of romance books in audio format for this reason. I also have a nifty program that will translate any Word file or PDF file into an MP3 file that can be played on my MP3 player. This works for converting PDF ebooks to audio.

I do like snuggling up with the ebook reader. My favorite place to read is in the recliner in the living room. I have a blanket there that I snuggle under. The dog gets under it, the cats perch around on top, and it is quite snug and cozy. This is where I do the bulk of my reading in paper and Kindle formats.

Audio is for those times when I must get up and move about...clean the house...drive to the grocery...etc. :-)

I love all formats. It's not a choice of one format...more a matter of fitting the format to the reading environment available.

434780 Hi! I'm new to this group. Although most of my current reads are of that PNR (paranormal romance) genre, I found this group because I've discovered Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooter series. I've just finished the last three books of her series and is working on getting the rest of the series.

I have to admit I listened to all of them (audiobooks) instead of reading, and boy, the books are a riot. I love her characters, and decided maybe I should read more romantic suspense. I'm looking forward to being part of this group.

message 11: by Kathrynn (new)

669573 Welcome Yz! The Suzanne Brockmann topic has been active lately. Just jump in whenever you feel comfortable.

My favorite genre is romantic suspense... :-)

message 12: by Debbie (new)

1811823 Hi,

I'm also new. I'm Debbie from Long Island, a librarian and author with a 4-year old daughter. I have always loved reading romantic suspense from Phyllis Whitney to Victoria Holt and Barbara Michaels to more recently Nora Roberts. I recently self-published my first novel, "Cloudy Rainbow" which is in this genre. It features a love story, a virtual world, a clairvoyant, and a cat. I'd love for you to check it out at my website where I am also sponsoring a contest www.debbiedelouise.com.
Debbie

There's a Nora Roberts Group, too.

message 20: by Sobia (new)

2125909 I joined a few groups (here and at Shelfari)sorta recently and am trying to intro myself in all of them so some of you may see this a few times :D ...

But my name's Sobia, and have only been reading romances since '07 I think...I started by going to the library excessively, but then realized that I don't like giving books back.... so now I get my books from a bunch of places, and never have to give up any of them if I don't want to and have a scary huge Keeper shelf :p

Authors I like include Karen Rose (Love all her books, but Don't Tell is a particular favorite) and Nora Roberts (slowy getting caught up with her books) among others, and I've got a bunch of Linda Howards to read, but have been a bit lazy actaully getting to them. Oh and Karen Robards is alright too :)

message 21: by Arch (new)

1610104 Hi Sobia. Welcome to the group.

message 22: by Kathrynn (new)

669573 Hi Sobia! Glad to have you here. I'm a big fan of Karen Rose, too. "Die for Me" was one of my favorites. "-)

Welcome to the Group and Goodreads!

message 23: by B (new)

2123622 Hi, all--I"m Beth from Texas. I like Linda Howard, am willing to give Suzanne Brockmann a try based on recommendations here. I prefer funny books to angsty books, usually, so I like Jennifer Crusie for contemps and Loretta Chase for historicals. Madeline Hunter has some good history/mystery/romances.

message 24: by Kathrynn (new)

669573 Hi Beth. Welcome to the group. :-)

message 25: by Arch (new)

1610104 Hello Beth. Welcome.

If you give Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooters series a try, you might just fall in love with Sam Starrett. He's my number one hero and Dave Malkoff is my number two hero.

I like a good laughable book as well.

message 26: by B (new)

2123622 Thanks! It looks like my library has a good collection of Brockmann, I'll check some out. Is there anything better than "discovering" a great author with an extensive backlist? :)

message 27: by Arch (new)

1610104 I can't wait until her new book. Hot Pursuit comes out on July 28. I want to see Sam, Alyssa and Ash.

message 28: by Yz (new)

434780 Welcome, Beth.

When you get hooked on the antics of Brockmann's Troubleshooters group, don't worry. There are more than enough GR fans here to discuss it with.

Enjoy!

message 29: by Arch (new)

1610104 Yes, I am always available to talk about Sam.

message 30: by Annie (new)

2595726 Hello, I'm Annie. I have been reading romantic suspense novels for years. I beleive my first was Nora Robert's Honest Illusions, still a favorite. This genre of books does what any good book is supposed to do- transport you. I usually read this genre for a few books, try out a different one and then switch again to "clean the palet." I am always looking for more books and different authors, especially when they have a backlist to keep me busy.

message 31: by Arch (new)

1610104 Hello Annie. Welcome!

2342404 Hi I'm Keri! I am a mother of two (five years and 18 months) and I work from home. I recently fell in love reading Romantic Suspense and now I can't stop. Thank God for libraries or I'd be broke!

My favorite author so far us Suzanne Brockmann. I am in love with her characters and the way she tells story after story.

My favorite book so far is Honest Illusions by Nora Roberts. I can read it again and again.

Authors I've read and enjoy are Nora Roberts, Lisa Jackson, Linda Howard, Julie Garwood, and Tami Hoag.

2413447 Hey everyone, I'm Caro. I fell in love with romantic suspense when I read Nora Roberts' River's End seven years ago.
Authors I love are NR, Sidney Sheldon, Jacquie D'Alessandro and a few more. I'm also curious about Suzanne Brockman now, since almost everyone here seem to love her.

message 38: by Kathrynn (new)

669573 Hi Carolina! Welcome to the group.

There sure are a lot of Suzanne Brockmann fans here. I'm way behind on her troublshooter series...:-(

I used to read Sidney Sheldon! There's a Nora Roberts Group here and if you click here it will take you right to it.

2127263 Hello! I'm Wendy Ely, a romantic suspense author. I love to read this genre as well so I'm excited to talk books with you all!

message 42: by Kathrynn (new)

669573 Hi Wendy! Welcome to the group. Feel free to tell us about your book(s) in the "Author and Publisher Spotlight" folder.

You are welcome to create a folder for yourself there, and if you need help doing that drop a note here and we'll take care of it for you.

Great to see you here.

message 43: by Wieta (new)

1591729 Hi everyone! I'm Wieta, from Indonesia. Thanks for adding me. I love romantic suspense for years. My favourites are: J.D.Robb (Death Series); Sandra Brown; Linda Howard; Nora Robert; Sidney Sheldon; Mary Higgins Clark. Too bad, in Indonesia we can not easily enjoy as many books as yours. Example, first installment of Death series (Indonesian edition) came out just about mid of 2008. So, I really excited to hear and sharing news with all of you.

message 44: by Kathrynn (last edited Nov 05, 2009 03:58AM) (new)

669573 Welcome to the group Wieta! Good to see you here.

Have you seen the Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb group? Here's a link?

Welcome. :-)

message 46: by Purple (new)

2191417 Hi! I'm Purple from the Philippines. And Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooter Series brought me to your Group. I just feel sad that its ending soon (I'm on Book 11) on Book 16?

I like all Genres, I'm currently hooked on Romantic Suspense, taking a break from the others =) Looking forward to chatting with you all about them here.

message 47: by Kathrynn (new)

669573 Welcome Purple! There are some serious Suzanne Brockmann fans here. :-) Good to see you here, too.

message 48: by Auntee (new)

886675 Welcome Purple! I'm hoping Brockmann's just taking a little break and she's got more for us in the future.:)

message 49: by Arch (new)

1610104 Welcome Caro, Wendy, Wieta and Purple.

I don't know if Suzanne is taking a break from her Troubleshooter series or retiring from it. But, I hope to get another Dave and Sophia book. I would like to see Dave and Nash work together on a mission, just like I would love to see Sam and Jones work together on a mission.

message 50: by Karen (new)

2050019 Hi everyone. My name is Karen...I've been on the lookout for new authors to try in romantic suspense and I followed one of Auntee's posts here. I see several other names that I recognize. :-)

I'm most interested in Suzanne Brockmann...off to check out the thread about her Troubleshooter series.
