2946928 I do my own website at homestead.com. The link is on my homepage if anyone wants to take a look at what they have to offer. The site is easy to get thru and set up and many applications can be added. The site can be enlarged to include a store or chat room and many more items.

I do my own site because I like being in control of when I can make changes and what changes happen. Uploading files is also easy with homestead. This monthly charge is about $7.99 so it's not over expensive and you are in charge. Just my opinion. My blog site is a separate site and I have many sites with links on my main site. My book trailers are also listed there and on Youtube.

I was fortunate to get a painting by Victor Cauduro, one of the finest Mexican painters of his generation, for my cover. It says a LOT about the contents, just at a glance.
I also used a lot of Victor's paintings in the video for the book: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JO7DxOXsA...

Victor's website, by the way: http://victorcauduro.com/

2973706 I couldn't figure out how to add the photo, so here's the link to the cover of my first book in my photos.

I ended up designing it myself, the ideas the publisher had were a little . . . lurid, for my personal tastes. Also, as it was coming out in e-book format, I thought designing it in black and white would guarantee it looked the way I wanted on e-book readers.

I'd love any feedback anyone might have (or tips on how to include the picture in the post!!)

I have used it as the background for my book trailer video and my website. Speaking of my website, I am featuring 5 new authors a month starting December 1, on my site. Go to http://www.whenirememberlove.com/new-aut... for details. This offer has a lot to it and it is free. Let me know what you think about my book cover.

The Complete Woodblock Prints of Kitagawa Utamaro

Janis, above the reply box there's a link 'some html is ok'... click on that and there is html for inserting an image. Just replace the goodreads image address with your own image's address, and change the height and width. I hope that made sense.

2946928 Hi everyone! I'm new here and am happy to see so many authors. I hope to also find some new books to read or rather, add to my TBR pile!

My novel is Never Surrender, an Indian time travel. My cover can be found on my website at deannajewel.com. I do my own covers, book marks, post cards and posters as well as my own marketing. I also did my book trailer which can be viewed at youtube by searching Never Surrender book trailer.

thank you for allowing my post here and hope to read more from all of you!

2728215 Hi there,

With my book, I hired a model for the photograph I provided to my designer. She knew the basic concept of the book and gave me 4 different versions to choose from. I chose the one I liked best. It seemed to relay how the character felt without even looking at the title.

2582136 DAVID The Penance List

am not sure if i have managed to load this correctly, am a newbie to this technology.

I think covers are important although they shouldnt be. but i understand catching the eye in a book shop and reading something that is not too embarassing to be seen with publically... ie sitting on a bus with male organs plastered over the cover would put me off getting my book out to read.

I write pretty blatently, wanted something simple, that did what it said on the cover - blood, sex, gore, a deeply troubled man. the only thing i could work out how to show was the humour in the book.

Luckily my daughter is an artist so stole her art. www.scarlettraven.com

1740143 My Sixth and final novel in the series, Well Worth the Wait, should be released this fall.
Well Worth the Wait
The upper photo was taken from my front yard. The horizon photo was used on my first novel, and the Nam photo with the soldiers scouting in a banana plantation was taken by Gary Jacobson. Thought it fitting to tie the first and the last novels... the past melding with the present. kgc

Nophoto-f-25x33 I'm writing on behalf of my husband, Frank L. Cole. He had some input on what should be on the cover, but ultimately it was up to the illustrator and the marketing/designing team at the publishing company. He did have a phone conversation with the illustrator before hand to give ideas and brainstorm, but that was about it. In the long run, we were fairly pleased with it and love the new/modern style from the illustrator. What do you think? The Adventures of Hashbrown Winters This is a childrens series and hopefully they all have the same type of design, maybe a different color background, I don't know. Again, it's not really up to us.

2425042 I've always hated the cover art part of this business. My publisher, Samhain LLC deals almost exclusively in romance novels, and so I was expecting a fight when the time finally came for me to design the cover art. Because Shroud is a thriller, and because thrillers usually don't have people on the cover, I knew there would be conflict. I said: "Thrillers often have machines--cars, ships...there's a helicopter scene in the story...how about a helicopter flying over some ancient ruins...juxtaposing the modern and the ancient."

The first artist did her best to follow my directions and the result was pretty lackluster.

ShroudofHeaven

That cover, which went out with the ebook was roundly rejected by the sales department who demanded a new cover for the print release, one that--you guessed it--featured people in the artwork. I rethought my objections, went and found some old adventure novels (it was actually the cover of Louis L'Amour's short story collection "Night Over the Solomons" that finally inspired me) and submitted new suggestions.

Night Over the Solomons

The result was, in my opinion, spectacular. I can't praise the artist, Anne Cain, enough, both for the cover and for putting up with me.

2500081 I think a good cover is always better than a bad cover ;)

Some degree of aesthetic appeal and relevance (to the book's content/story) make a good cover, IMO.

I published my book myself -- so I had full creative control over everything (including the cover, which I designed/drew myself)!

2171217 Hi Dee,
I had posted this image on a photography website and they loved it and featured it on their homepage for a while, so I thought I'd use it as my book cover. I mashed it on PhotoShop. It's thematic to the story. (I hope this link works.)

954023 Hi all,
I don't know how to add an image here so here's the link to the cover of "Ash: Return of the Beast". This is my current novel-in-progress:

http://tinyurl.com/c2zhxr

As with my first novel, "The Ezekiel Code" http://www.ezekielcode.com I designed the cover myself. The cinerary urn and the "ash" effect created for the title reflect the theme of the story. This is a fictional tale based on a real life (or should I say real death) mystery. The notorious master of ritual magick, Aleister Crowley (known in life as "the Beast" and dubbed by the press as "the wickedest man in the world"), was cremated after death in 1947. The final whereabouts of his ashes, however, has remained a mystery... until now. Suddenly, Seattle's preachers are dying, one by one. But is it murder? Where's the evidence?

I like to have the cover of the book finished even before I begin the writing. Having it available to look at helps keep me motivated to write. After all, what's the use of a great book cover if there's no book? Hey, it works for me! :-)

By the way, I design book covers for other authors, too! So if you're in the market for an eye-catching cover come see samples of my work:

http://www.bookcoversandvideos.webs.com

Thanks! And keep on churning out those stories!

2226765 After around 16 tastefully developed options, ranging from abstract complicated visuals of a lonely man reaching out to his dreams to battered bruised and bandaged hearts, we chose this simplistic cover that has a hidden story… a story that makes the cover even more engaging once you start reading the book!
