Nichole, I foudn out I lent my copy to a friend and my sister's copy to an ex-neighbour so I'm waiting to get back one of those to start reading them. I put the CP nooks on my Dec challenge list though.

I second the awkwardnees. And I want hotness too! Compensation for the long waiting...

2551704 I want to see a lot of Pritkin/Cassie/Mircea akwardness. I bet Mircea will be nasty to him in his sly way. Pritkin will just be nasty in general like he always is and Cassie will be praying they don't kill each other.

74998 Just thought I'd jump in and mention that I have started my Touch the Dark re-read.
Anyone joining me?

2941095 It has complicated featues in it though it is explained throughout the novel. Sometimes, a thing that is mentioned at the start is explained in DETAIL further on in the plot. Like the wards. I found out about this book on the internet and the mystery in the blurb just had me going. If you can't get yourself to read the quite dull beginning and are only intriged by some parts throughout, like I was, just let the "price he demands may be more than Cassie is willing to pay..." encourage you to read on the book. It worked with me! I hope it will work with you!

message 57: by Mel (new)

2295424 I HOPE so! Oh God, I can't wait till April or May or June or whenever she's bringing Cassie #5 out!

message 56: by Michelle M. (new)

355739 I think there might not be any incidents, but the TENSION is going to be through the roof. A lot of almosts and "ahem" and running away from each other.

:)

message 55: by Amelia (new)

2551704 LMAO

I remember thinking....really Pritkin? Panties on?
I agree with there being more Mircea since they are "dating" in this upcoming book.

I'm still holding out for another "emergency". One Mircea will probably wlak in on and flip out about. lol

I can just imagine the akward conversation that would bring about. XD

message 54: by Mel (last edited 26 days ago, 03:46AM) (new)

2295424 Well... I'm afraid: they won't get far. I really can't imagine Pritkin and Cassie getting to 'fourth base' in the next couple of books. Maybe the 7th or 8th book but not before.

IF Cassie and Pritkin get down and dirty this book (I'm expecting to see way more Mircea this time around) I don't expect more than a make out session. Hmmm well maybe a litte 'oral sex with panties on' session?
Oh Pritkin...

message 53: by Amelia (new)

2551704 As a KC pusher I will NOT let this thread die!

Let's have guesses to how far Cassie and Pritkin will go in the next book!

message 52: by Mel (new)

2295424 Oh I like Caedmon for his humor and for the fact that he's so good in riling up LC. And men like that become extra territorial... so that's alll good for Dory.

Oh Marlowe nakedness! I wouldn't mind him and the consul. She and her snakes. That would be some kinky shit ;)

message 51: by Amelia (new)

2551704 There will probably be some Caedmon nakedness too.... I aint mad at it. lol

I wish there would be some Marlowe nakedness!!!! (with out the Consul involved D:)

message 50: by Mel (new)

2295424 LOL, I can see her seeing that. I bet she'll use a little 'stepmom' here and there. I don't really see her attacking Cassie verbally. She's got nothing personal against her, and Dory might be cynicaly, but I don't see her as a total bitch who's just nasty against everyone around her. She will try to embarress and hurt Mircea.
I'm afraid Dory might see Cassie but not actually meet her yet. Maybe they'll pass each other in the Senate hallway or something.

And yes: there HAS to be a lot of LC nakedness in this book. Otherwise I'm going to complain on KC's site!

message 49: by Amelia (new)

2551704 I don't know. We all know they will meet eventually. Dorina is spending time around the senate in her next book. Senate time=time around Daddy which could in turn lead to a Cassie run in.

I just want some LC time in all this hooplah! I'll feel cheated if they don't bump uglies in this book! lol

You know Dory will prbably be condescending to Cassie about her relationship with her father and about her position as Pythia. "Oh..... your the Pythia? I thought you'd be more kick ass than kindergarten."

message 48: by Mel (new)

2295424 Me! Me! Me!
I am so looking forward to their meeting. It's going to be uncomfortable, awkward, bitchy, maybe a bit violent... but oh so funny for us to read.
When do you think they'll meet? Dory #2 or Cassie #5? Somehow my money's on the latter.

message 47: by Amelia (new)

2551704 I refuse to let a Karen Chance related thread die!

So who thinks that Dorina might "accidentally" end up kicking Cassie's ass when they meet?

message 46: by Michelle M. (new)

355739 Amelia, eyeballs. Lol.

Thanks Emily. I'll try that out. Maybe an interesting audiobook can get me to work out more :)

Summer wrote: "I really wanted to like Touch the Dark by Karen Chance. It started out really good but to me around the middle of the book I got tired of the heroine running from one bad situation to the next without stop"

Yeah Summer, hang in there. Book 2 is much better, book 3 and 4 are wonderful. Or try Midnight's Daughter if you don't like Cassie. Dorina is much more kick ass and knows how the handle herself. She's also really cynical and funny. I assure you, you'll love that book!

Stalkers all the way!!!

message 44: by Amelia (new)

2551704 Hang in there Summer!

I agree with this publicity tour for the books. Us 3 stalkers will be fabulous for this!

Meh audio books aren't my cup of tea. I'm all about the eyeballs! 8l

message 43: by Summer (new)

2274107 I really wanted to like Touch the Dark by Karen Chance. It started out really good but to me around the middle of the book I got tired of the heroine running from one bad situation to the next without stop. I love a lot of action in books but by the end I was so confused as to who is who and who did what and ????. But I hear book two gets much better.

I listened to it on audiobook and really liked it.

message 41: by Emily (new)

2087659 I got them on www.audible.com. I love them. I listen to them all the time. I work on other things while listening. Well it is true some stories are not as great becuase of the narrator, I often find the the narrator they chose usually fits the book. You can always listen to samples before you try them!

message 40: by Michelle M. (new)

355739 I've tried audiobooks once or twice. I lose track of the story right away. Not for me!

message 39: by Mel (new)

2295424 :) That's the purpose of our next meeting. You know, that one we've got planned in that fancy schmenzy hotel in New York?

Did you hear these audio books by Chance? I don't do audiobooks. Partly because they aren't that widely available here. Partly because I'm afraid that my ideas about characters will be ruined by the way the narrator protrays them.
It would be good for working out though...

message 38: by Michelle M. (new)

355739 Lol. I'm sure you'll need help on that tour!

To the publishers of the wonderful miss Karen Chance:

As the European delegation's representative I'd like to say we need to spread the word! I really wouldn't mind beeing sent all over Europe. Asia too if you must insist. I'm sure I can get some extra days off work to do the Africa and Australia tour.
I'll try not to miss the monthly meetings with the American delegates either. Next subject to discuss: a 'Tomas'-tour through South America, for the fans.

May the KC-love be with you!

message 36: by Mel (new)

2295424 Curse the Dawn wasn't available as an audiobook I heard.
I never listenend to an audiobook, seems really weird to me. How were they?

message 35: by Emily (new)

2087659 I love this series! I have to say that I listened to the first 3 books on audiobooks, but read the 4th. They are worth sticking with, they are complicated but she does resolve most of the conflicts. Of course, she does need to let some things hang out there, but it is a series and is to be expected.

message 34: by Michelle M. (new)

355739 Bring me a shrubbery!

Ni!

Ahem...sorry.

Chance needs to give out rewards to her street team. That team being us.

I always feel badly coming down on the beginning of the first book, but I figure if I'm honest about finding the beginning of Touch trying, my enthusiasm for the series is all the more convincing. And I'm enthusiastic, baby! :)

message 33: by Mel (new)

2295424 Damn! And here I was thinking I was subtle...

message 32: by Amelia (last edited Aug 14, 2009 09:30PM) (new)

2551704 Just wait for the 3rd Jessica.... XD

I feel like I'm campaigning for these books. Myself along with Michelle and Mel.

Mel please be more discreet with the stalking. My neighbors were worried when they saw you in my shrubbery. lmao

2509858 When I first started reading Touch The Dark, I was really confused and didn't really like it, but once I got halfway through, I really started to get into the story, the second book, Claimed by Shadow, is even BETTER!

message 30: by Mel (last edited Aug 14, 2009 02:43PM) (new)

2295424 Michelle and Amelia, guess I'm stalking you gals too.
But you know: I'm taking my "spreading the Karen Chance love"-mission VERY seriously...

So Samantha, Amanda, Amie, etc. etc. Don't let the first 60 or so pages of Touch the Dark fool you. The Cassie Palmer series is adventurous, fun, sassy and highly addictive. Touch the Dark was quite confusing in the beginning and Chance had the tendency to explain stuff at unwanted moments. The books get better and better though. Claimed by Shadow was good, Embrace the Night and Curse the Dawn were GREAT (yes: with caps!). We've been obsessing about it for 15 pages in another group.
Like Michelle said: if you don;t like Cassie, try Midnight's Daughter by Chance, with Dorina as the heroine. I think the book is much easier to get into. It's a great great read, I might even love it more than Cassie.

It was a hard lesson, but I've learned that too!

Especially true with UF, it seems.

message 28: by Desiree (new)

1960905 I haven't read this series yet, but I have #1 sitting on my nighstand. I do have to say, i see a lot are giving up reading it after 30 pages. If I learned anything from being a book nerd, it's to not give up after 30 pages! ;) It took me a month to read 70 pages into a book I couldn't stand...turned out to be a winner and is now one of my favorite books!

message 27: by Diana (new)

1357756 I love this series, but I will admit they get better the farther along you get.

message 26: by Lenore (new)

2456129 Haha. Actually I read the first two books before the third was even released. A fan from the beginning!

message 25: by Amelia (new)

2551704 To each his/her own.

Yay Lenore! lol

message 24: by Michelle M. (new)

355739 Well, we can't force them to our will, my dear.

Take heart! Lenore kept reading and ended up loving it! Yay, Lenore!

message 23: by Amelia (new)

2551704 I'm not. lol I'm staying away from the Sookie Stackhouse group until I start reading the books.

It kind of disappoints me to see that people are giving up on Touch The Dark :(

message 22: by Michelle M. (new)

355739 We're mad heavy-handed with the book spoilers in there--even in the show threads. Don't be ruining yourself now, young lady.

message 21: by Michelle M. (new)

355739 Ha ha ha ha ha!

message 20: by Amelia (new)

2551704 I already am in the Sookie Stackhouse group! lmao

message 19: by Michelle M. (new)

355739 You'll be popping up in the Sookie Stackhouse and UF groups next...

Back, devil zombie!

message 18: by Amelia (new)

2551704 Lmao I think we are sharing the same groups like we do brainwaves.

message 17: by Michelle M. (new)

355739 I KNEW you'd write that! I figured we'd switch it up. I stalk you here, you stalk me there...all about the balance, baby.

message 16: by Amelia (new)

2551704 Who's the stalker now Michelle!? lol

message 15: by Michelle M. (new)

355739 Love it. It's one of my absolute favorite series.

With that said, even I admit it took a bit for book one to flow (50-odd pages?). But I ended up liking the first book a lot and loving every one since. And she's just so freakin' FUNNY amidst all the mayhem, mystery and murder!

If anyone didn't like Cassie herself as a main character, the spin off series has a very different heroine and understanding one series doesn't depend on the other (as of now, at least).

message 14: by Lenore (new)

2456129 The first and second were good, but not the best. Keep reading. I LOVED the third and fourth. Try Midnight's Daughter and Death's Mistress. It's Chance's other series that is a spin off of Cassie Palmer.

message 13: by Susan (Suz) (new)

2408497 I personally did not care for the first one at all... I went ahead and tried the 2nd and it was a bit better... I have heard the 3rd & 4th are much better and so am going to go ahead and give them a shot....

message 12: by Amelia (new)

2551704 This is one of my favorite series. I love it.

Though I admit if you aren't really focused or paying attention you will have a hard time understanding what is going on. Especially in the first book.

A friend of mine would start reading then stop and she would have to start over because she would get lost. She did this 3 times. Then when she finally finished the first book she immediately went and got the second.

The books get better as they progress. Tricia you might not have liked the first 2 but I think you might change your tune on the third. If you were to try it. Things change A LOT! Just a thought. :)
