Scribbler King (ScribblerKing) | 23 comments A while back I started a discussion about books to watch out for and it's been really helpful to me, but every time I look at a new comment I feel kind of depressed.

So. I know we have a bookshelf, but sometimes it's hard to know what things are about or how good the books really are, even if they are clean. (And I know they are, since they're on this group's bookshelf. Yay!) I have run across some clean books that are still basically trash because they're just that badly written.

Anyway, I'd like to have a discussion about the BEST of the clean section. (Or some of the best.)

Scribbler King (ScribblerKing) | 23 comments Patricia C. Wrede's DEALING WITH DRAGONS and the sequels are all among the best. They're well written, funny, the main character is awesome, and it's good for all ages--children to adult. Everyone could enjoy it.

message 3: by Anna (new)

Anna (SylviaGrant) Saffy's Angel is a great book and one of my very favorite is Dairy Queen, only I don't enjoy the kissing part but everything else was fine.

Matched by Ally Condie I LOVE this book! Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie

Also: The Maze Runner and The Scorch trials The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner
The Scorch Trials (Maze Runner, #2) by James Dashner

And:
The Price of Trust by Amanda Stephan
Lonely Hearts by Amanda Stephan

No swearing in any of them except The Scorch Trials and the swearing is really light. THe Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials the author makes up his own slang, but these are my fav. books :)

Have you read Uglies? there is like one kiss small one and they don't swear on the book either.

Ok so another great series is Ally Carter's I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You (Gallagher Girls, #1) by Ally Carter

there is minor kissing but even my mom loves teh series and she's real strict about what i read.

Scribbler King (ScribblerKing) | 23 comments I love that series, too! Gallagher Girls, I think it's called. And yes, there's kissing, but I don't think it ever gets descriptive. As you said, minor, and there isn't a lot of it, either. Personally, I'd prefer a little more!

Scribbler King (ScribblerKing) | 23 comments I'd also like to recommend a book called THE MERCHANT'S DAUGHTER by MELANIE DICKERSON. It's a sort-of retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I really enjoyed it, and the romance was one of the best I've read in a while.

The only thing I can think of that might be objectionable is the kiss at the end, which might be a little much for some (if I recall correctly, she sits on his lap for part of it) but that's as far as it goes and you know it. Hmm, there is also a creepy guy that does not act well, but it comes to nothing.

M.M. Lake (mmlake) | 3 comments Clean YA fiction:
The Summoning
Raised by Wolves

I'm pretty sensitive to the swearing and adult content, and like finding books I can talk about with my younger nieces.

Oh, yes, and I'm new to the group and really appreciate the topic!

Ok so there's this series i LOVE by Lauraine Snelling but if you don't like historical fiction you wouldn't like it. It's called the Daughters of Blessing. Here's the first one in the series:
A Promise for Ellie (Daughters of Blessing, #1) by Lauraine Snelling
It's really awesome book and the rest are good to. There is some stuff about God, but just skimming it helped me.

Also this book:
Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen
I really liked it. There's like one makeout scene but I don't think its very long and not too descriptive. And there's some cussing I think. As far as I remember this was a good book though.

Courtney Nuckels | 2 comments Fablehaven!!!! Has to be one of my fav series of all times! Completely clean.

message 12: by Agatha (new)

Agatha (Biblio_philia95) | 1 comments Divergent: Kissing some violence, really light launguge
Wither: The story is about pologamy, and needing to have children. But the book is surprisingly mostly clean.
Pathfinder: I don't recall anything.
Boston Jane: An amazing book. Clean. The only problem is the main charrie sees a ghost. It's not relivent to the plot I don't think...it's weird.
Life As We Knew It: A couple kissing parts, and there may be some launguge. I can't remember.
Leviathan Trilogy: Clean!
Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children: Says the S word a lot. A couple kisses. And kinda creepy too. :)

Hopes this helps.

Scribbler King (ScribblerKing) | 23 comments THE FALSE PRINCE by Jennifer A. Nielsen is a really good book, the first in a trilogy. No swearing, some violence but nothing too graphic, and no kissing even much less anything else. Main character is 14, but I'm much older and still enjoyed myself silly.

Dria (DizzyGirl99) Keturah and Lord Death

are both awesome clean reads. I added them both to the group bookshelf!

message 19: by April (new)

April | 1 comments My favorite best Clean authors: Jennie Hansen, Betsy Brandon Green, Sara Eden, Colleen Coble. Those are mostly romance. If you want thrillers: Stephanie Black, and Clair Poulson are great authors.
