That sounds like good ground to begin with. I'll check out the Rainbow and then Women in Love, most likely. Thanks!
I've read Sons and Lovers, but I think I would appreciate more a second time around. It was pretty slow, and I probably didn't pay enough attention to actual words. I later read Lady Chatterley's Lover, and I really enjoyed it. I thought the story was great. It hardly seems like the same author. I do plan on reading Women in Love next.
Wow Zoe. This is deep. I love D. H. too. As a writer, the very first paragraph of your post resonates with me. So much happens subconciously when you put pen to page.

Yes I know just what you mean Zoe, I feel the same way when I read his work. Espcially Rainbow, I can really understand the intenstiy of the passion the characters had, and thier inner feelings and conflicts.
I think this novel would pair well with the soundtrack for the movie 'The Fountain' :) I thought it was a beautiful novel, that adeptly explored different relationships and the mental state one finds themselves in- albeit exaggerated.
I just finnished reading Women in Love, and I have to say I loved it, it might now be one of my faovirtes by D.H. Lawrence, it is hard to choose between WIL and The Rainbow. At first Women in Love started out a little slow for me, but I soon became really drawn into it, and I thought the book had some wonderfully passages that really spoke to some of my own personal relfections about soceity and humanity.
The characters of Women in Love were rather inriguing and complex and I just loved Birkin. And while there were times in which I really did not care for Gerald I still could not help but to route for him and Gundron and so wanted them to be able to come togehter.
The ending of the story was quite a surprsie to me and I never saw it comming, but I found the last paragagh to be quite moving and speak of a great truth.
It truly was a marvelous book.
