651693 I found this author:

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/606...

it reads as "."

Cute, huh?

message 2: by Isis FG (new)

946249 Yikes, and it's got 490 books.

I checked out one, and that "author" data actually came from Amazon. That's just bad.

message 4: by vicki_girl (new)

1344613 That "author" also has a bunch of quotes that will need to be taken care of as well...

message 5: by Melody (new)

186853 I took care of the quotes

message 6: by Sherri (new)

1167793 Can I get confirmation on this author?

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/512...

Some of the books maybe by this person, but somehow I have doubts about all the Charles Schultz also being authored by "Seth". It doesn't look right.

message 7: by rivka, Volunteer Mod (new)

171430 Yeah, the Schultz ones shouldn't have any co-authors, but Seth appears to be a real graphic novel author. (Also Jason, from the same publisher. It must be a trend.)

message 8: by Sherri (new)

1167793 Thanks, Rivka. I wonder what that's all about anyway -- some GR member having a joke by adding incorrect authors to existing books?

message 9: by Cait (new)

1005037 "Seth" is the pen name of a graphic novelist, yup. And I think he edited a Schultz collection at some point...?

message 10: by rivka, Volunteer Mod (new)

171430 Looks like the weird "authors" on the Schultz books came from our friends at Amazon, and were editors and writers of forewords.

message 11: by Brandy (new)

41490 Seth is a graphic novelist who also does some amazing book design, including the Peanuts collections (which is probably how he got listed on them). He may also be listed on the Dennis the Menace books (I haven't checked, but I think he designed those, too).

I don't know if the ones with Jane Roberts are really him--I'm inclined to think no, but I'm doped up on DayQuil right now so I'll sort it out later.

message 12: by rivka, Volunteer Mod (new)

171430 The ones with Jane Roberts identify him by name on the cover.

message 13: by Sherri (new)

1167793 A book's editor or designer doesn't rank the same as an author, though, unless the book is an anthology or something similar, does it? Or the writer of a foreword?

If it weren't for the quotes, I'd never run into these little esoteric corners.

message 14: by Sherri (new)

1167793 Someone please check this

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/106...

I'm reasonably certain Natalie Portman did not author either of the "books" (which are not books as best I can tell) attributed to her here. One is a calendar and one is, I'm guessing from the PAL designation, a DVD.

message 15: by Sherri (new)

1167793 Same thing here -- Winona Ryder is listed as the "author" of a DVD box set.

message 16: by Sherri (last edited Oct 06, 2008 08:23PM) (new)

1167793 And here's another

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/243...

Not Without My Daughter is by Betty Mahmoody, while Field was in the movie.

message 17: by rivka, Volunteer Mod (new)

171430 A book's editor or designer doesn't rank the same as an author, though, unless the book is an anthology or something similar, does it? Or the writer of a foreword?

Exactly. Which is why I removed them.

I took care of the Portman and Field items; I need a link for the Ryder one, please.

message 18: by Sherri (new)

1167793 Feh, thought I'd pasted that one. Sorry, Rivka

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/93545...

message 19: by Sherri (new)

1167793 There's no author information on this one

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/421...

"M" is an author, but some of the books appear to be listed incorrectly, with an author's first initial mistaken for "M" as a name.

message 20: by rivka, Volunteer Mod (new)

171430 Ok, took care of removing the actors-as-authors on the box set (which actually contains a book as well as the videos, so I left the primary author) and I'm working on the M's.

message 21: by Sherri (new)

1167793 Rivka, I know there was a Winona Rydyer calendar, but it didn't show on the search, so I don't know where it went from last night.

Question -- I found a large batch of quotes from The Gilmore Girls TV show. Many of them are favorited by several people. There's no link, and I haven't found any associated book (yet, at least).

http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/search?q...

I'll put this on the "quotes" thread, but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some TV show associated book that might be based on the show.

message 22: by Sherri (new)

1167793 I'm going out on a limb here and saying this person is not an author.

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/124...

Perhaps it's the complete lack of books :)

I have not deleted a book on GR yet, so I'll leave this for now and let some smarter person handle it.

message 23: by Sherri (new)

1167793 Yet another one that looks like the author was listed incorrectly

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/561...

message 24: by Lisa (new)

83445 I guess an intelligent person deleted the last two.

message 25: by rivka, Volunteer Mod (new)

171430 Christina is gone, and I fixed Serena Proes (wow, that has to be a pen name!)

I'll have to see if I can find that calendar . . .

message 26: by Sherri (new)

1167793 Could this possibly be Nietzsche?

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/853...

message 27: by Isis FG (last edited Oct 07, 2008 08:28PM) (new)

946249 I think so, according to this page:
http://www.karoon.com/detail.lasso?pid=1...
it is.

There is another similar entry here:
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/452...

I was going to do some merging, combining and deleting, but GR is being super slow for me tonight for whatever reason and I gave up. Hopefully someone else will be able to sort it out.

message 28: by rivka, Volunteer Mod (new)

171430 Got 'em.

message 29: by Sherri (new)

1167793 http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/154...

I don't think these are all by the same "Andrea".

My trade paperback copy of King Leopold's Ghost: A Story of Greed, Terror, and Heroism in Colonial Africa is by Adam Hochschild. I can't find a reference to an "Andrea" anywhere -- not cover design, book design, or any other attribution (unless it's in the content).

And just now, while using the widget, I noticed a typo in this book's title -- "it's" should be "its"

Earth and It's People Volume C 3rd Ed + King Leopolds Ghost Paperback

message 30: by rivka, Volunteer Mod (new)

171430 All done.

message 31: by Cera (new)

1533140 Can someone sort out William Chambers?

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/999...

The Scottish publisher (1800-1883) is probably responsible for most of them, but surely not for _The Redemption Factor_ or _Hallucinations in Children_.

Thanks!

message 32: by Sherri (new)

message 33: by Petra X (last edited Oct 08, 2008 06:51PM) (new)

1237196 Cera - all the books have the correct authors. The Redemption Factor was written by the William Chambers who served two terms as Executive Vice President of the Mystery Writers of America. The William Chambers who co-authored Hallucinations in Children, among other books on childhood psychology, with Daniel Pilowsky wasn't born until 1945. The remainder of the books were authored or edited by William and/or his brother Robert Chambers who lived in the 19th century. Perhaps a librarian more experienced than me (just about every other librarian) might want to make some changes to the authors' profiles.

message 34: by This Is Not The Michael You're Looking For (last edited Oct 08, 2008 08:19PM) (new)

834216 I separated them into unique profiles.

Edit: I should point out that Robert Chambers needs some work since he is clearly multiple people.

message 35: by Sherri (new)

1167793 Some mixed up Georges. I'm willing to bet King George III isn't the same as the other authors listed here -- at least I HOPE so :)

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/232...

message 36: by Sherri (new)

1167793 The books attributed to this "author" have editors, none of whom appear to be this person.

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/783...

message 37: by Lisa (last edited Oct 09, 2008 07:48AM) (new)

83445 Sherri, I got the last one. I'll work on the Georges; other librarians feel free to do so too.

Edit: I got the Georges.

message 38: by Cera (new)

1533140 Petra & Michael

Sorry, I must have posted in the wrong place -- I did think the author names were correct, just that they needed separation into different profiles, as Michael has since done. Michael, did you do this by adding spaces for disambiguation (which I can do myself in future) or is there some other strategy?

Thanks,
Cera

834216 I just added spaces and put a little info into the profile description, when I could. I haven't done Robert Chambers yet.

message 40: by Shadi (new)

170573 Someone changed the name: 'Gabriel García Márquez' to 'Gabriel Garcia Marquez'. Do you agree with this?
Gabriel Garcia Marquez

message 41: by vitalinew (last edited Oct 12, 2008 01:19AM) (new)

1015035 The agreement was to agree :)) with the Library of Congress, so I changed the name back to "Gabriel García Márquez"

By the way, Shadi, is this One Hundred Years of Solitude?

message 42: by rivka, Volunteer Mod (new)

171430 It's the same person who undid it when I put it in with the accents. Maybe a message to her is in order?

message 43: by Isis FG (last edited Oct 12, 2008 02:28PM) (new)

946249 It's the same person who undid it when I put it in with the accents. Maybe a message to her is in order?

Rivka, considering that the person has changed the name at least 4 times to take out the accents, probably! Either that or you guys will be going back and forth forever!

message 44: by rivka, Volunteer Mod (new)

171430 I didn't go back far enough to notice it was that many.

Ok, email sent. Hope it does the trick.

message 45: by Shadi (new)

170573 vitalinew, it is "One Hundred Years of Solitude". There are more than 5 editions added with this cover!!! I don't know why they don't search first!!!! I'm sorry anyway!

message 46: by Shadi (last edited Oct 12, 2008 11:57PM) (new)

170573 vitalinew, Please don't edit http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18869... so that I can notify the person who added this about his mistake.

message 47: by vitalinew (new)

1015035 Dear Shadi, no problem at all. I can wait :)

message 48: by Animeactress (new)

989016 i hope this is the right place to post this but...
it seems these two authors are the same person. i dont know how to fix it.

message 49: by Cait (last edited Oct 13, 2008 12:03PM) (new)

1005037 Animeactress, this is a fine place for it! I've combined the two authors (and Phillip Kerr too), although I can't combine the editions until a bug gets fixed.

message 50: by rivka, Volunteer Mod (new)

171430 David Williams has to be at least a couple different people. Possibly as many as 4 or 5 . . .
